Hello, Beanies! Anyone else out there desperate for spring?

@lordcobol & @stpauligurl Oh no fun! Definitely take care! If I may ask, do you guys take anything? I know the over-the-counter allergy stuff does work, but I'm always reluctant to take it (although I have) because of the resulting super dry eyes.

2

@korfan I have yet to find anything that helps with allergies and doesn't make me super sleepy. Costco is supposed to have some fabulous over-the-counter allergy meds - and i tried them but they did nothing for me.
Having written that I should explain that I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon that is mostly faming. Someone told me once that the early Native Americans called this place the 'valley of death' due to the pollen. And I believe it! But I'd live here over any place else....

3

I took 3 generic loratadine from a bottle that supposedly expired 2 years ago. I normally goes years at a time without taking anything so I don't have recent pills.
The best allergy treatments I've found are to be careful what I eat and to move away from pollen sources like lawns, flowers, etc.
BTW, I have to be careful because some antihistamines include fillers that I'm allergic too.

2

Can't believe how many thumbs-up allergies get :)

In my part of the country, we're in "snirt" season. For my own amusement, I make bets on which piles of dirty snow will last until April.

The giant mounds of snirt in parking and vacant lots have decreased in size amazingly fast, but there are some that may yet survive until April. We had a lot of snow.

This week my car recorded 37 degrees celcius or 99F. I'd like spring and autumn but it's just summer all year round and getting hotter every year.

@beantown roses rain good coffee
and tulips, daffodils and mountain ranges on the east and west of us.
the PNW is rather sublime after 25 years in MN. And I loved MN!

3

@stpauligurl I saw a tulip poking through the dirt yesterday. There may still be mounds of dirty snow everywhere (melting very fast though), but we survived another winter and will soon have that glorious noisy burst of spring. (oh, I hope I didn't just jinx it)

4

Ooooh @egads - are you sure it isn't a crocus or a daffodil? Our tulips aren't blooming just yet - but they will be soon! The Willamette Valley is a wonderful place for doing flower photography. We have a tulip farm in April, then Iris and peony farms in June. But the best is the dahlia farm in September.
I can live with the allergies for all of them.
But I will admit that first day of warmth and sun in MN is like no other...

4

I know what you mean @ndlessjoie - Sunday and Monday were great - but it felt like late summer. We are now back into normal spring weather. I was almost fooled into planting seeds in my garden.

Awesome Movie. As expected from a novel.

8.5 out of 10. My heart was craving Pure and Innocent love and this movie made feel that significant love.
It took me 15 months to watch the movie but seeing many members comments last week, my competitive approach got new wings and at last i watched the movie. Should i give credit to you guys for challenging me!!? hehe

This is why i love the Japanese media. Somehow, it always creates typhoon in my heart. I feel uneasy, upset, heart plays ping pong but i also feel quite happy. This warm feeling as well as this heartache makes me love Japanese media more and more.

Though i enjoy bashing SHoujo romance.

Every feel like me that this must be your second life? The first one took place wherever your "soul home" was?

2

@linda-palapala

You, too?!? Honestly, This is why I believe in the possibility of reincarnation; it makes so little sense that I resonate with a place thousands of miles away. My scientific nature postulates that half/all of my atoms must have drifted over in some cataclysmic event and landed here!

3

@beantown: Exactly. We're truly on the same wavelength.

Required fields are marked *

you don't own a coat? It isn't that warm here. I remember one Christmas years ago whenI took the train home from St. Paul MN. It was so cold in the midwest the tracks were frozen in Illinois and so the train was late. I had a long down coat to keep me warm.
However, I was much older here due to the damp cold that goes through everything. yikes!
I've been home now for 11 years and my mantra is always "at least it's above freezing!" hah

3

I have a jacket. :-) But by the coast the temperature stays fairly moderate all year long. Previously I lived in the valley for a few years and it got both colder and hotter there than it does where I live now. But you are definitely right about the "damp" cold. I think it's something one gets used to though. When family visits from warmer climates, they get chilly easier.

Happy OT!

Went to an island last weekend with friends from faraway land. I'll try to look some pics to share on my fanwall.

The Light in Your Eyes still can't believe that the writers pulled off that twist! Thanking NJH's guest appearance in Coffee Friends because I watched the drama after seeing him there.

Reach Of Sincerity The three way scene with Se-won, Jung-rok and CEO was such a funny moment! Glad that this week's case wasn't handled as bad as the stalking one. And Pinku pinku couple is finally back!

Top Star Yoo-baek binge watch the drama. It was my first Jeon Somin drama, I like her. I'm no native speaker but I love her satoori! The halmonis of the island were a delight, made me cry in a few scenes too.

1% of Anything (2016) Currently watching after seeing Javabeans rate the dramas at B+ or was it a B. If I end up liking Ha Seok-jin, I might end up watching Drinking Solo and maybe finish Radiant Offfice.

With the recent news about 1N2D and Coffee Friends ending, I've only got a few K-varietys to watch -_- Life Bar, Master in the House, I Live Alone, Knowing Brothers --- I just watch these shows if I like the guest though. *sigh*

May the weekend be kind and full of drama watching to all Beanies around the world!

Sensei Kunshu - 3d kanojo - Tonari no kaibutsu kun - all deserve criticism.

Manga to live-action Adaptation demands careful chosen scenarios being directed well. but no scriptwriter just pick things from here and there and make a movie out of it.
Then SHoujo usually is below average media so you get pretty cheap movies out of all of it.

I finally finished watching' A Story to read when you first fall in Love'. It was quite good and I must say that I cried a lot. While I root for Yuriyuri, I cannot help feeling so sorry for Harumi's cousin. He was genuinely so nice and understanding.
Although Sky Castle and this drama are about university entrance exams, I can not have a connection/ sympathy with any of people in the Sky Castle( because most are quite despicable) But this drama is full of nice people and fun. I felt so good for Harumi because she finally found her confidence and reconnect herself. There are so many people out there who feels their future and hopes were crushed when/after they failed to get into their first choice uni. I guess it is quite a challenge to turn things around without having some one close always cheers for them.
Anyway, I bet that Ryusei Yokohama who plays Yuriyuri is going to be very popular in Japan.

Japanese private universities might accept some donation in order to let a student get in. However national universities are fair and square and the competition is fierce because the tuition is much lower. I have heard that the entrance exam for Tokyo Uni is the most difficult. They seem easy on surface but once I digged in to problems, my brain was so confused!!
I do not know why American universities like to evaluate their potential students on leadership. Why on earth every student have to have a leadership skill? Need to do relentless extra activities with their hearts not in it? and why sports are so important? i have many questions regarding American uni entry systems.

@akikoz We have standardized entrance exams (SAT, ACT) which supposedly measure a students readiness for college. Theoretically, the test serves as a common data point for schools, but in reality, it does favor certain segments over others. Students can game the system with classes and multiple retakes, which can (and usually does) improve their score. Yes, students try to stand out from the crowd with sports, hobbies, volunteer activities, etc. .....The reality is that college admission is a variable lottery and the goalposts change from year to year.

I don't understand the fixation on sports either. My favorite story of a uni here is that the students gather for a massive tailgate party pregame but no one actually goes into the football game. Very subversive!

I also love the SK practice of a national day for the test which happens once a year. It wouldnt happen here as too much money is made by the various entities creating the standards.

Hi Everyone! ..... I hope you are all doing well today.

If Spring has arrived in your part of the world, I hope you have a wonderful season!

Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2 - Is this over yet? ..... It's just so all over the place. Yet I keep on watching. I have no explanation really. I suppose I want to see just what other bizarre element they'll throw in each episode.

Romance Is A Bonus Book - I was a good watch. It wasn't complicated, no unnecessary angst, and with a light, humorous touch now and then. ....... But that coat!!

The Fiery Priest - I finally found the time to get started on this and decided to jump in at episode 3. I'm barely up to episode 6 though. ..... It's ok so far, but I'm wondering if things will pick up soon because nothing really seems to be happening. On a side note, I think the nun is going to be a scene-stealer of sorts because she seems hilarious.

Another week, and the Burning Sun scandal continues to grow. On March 17, 2019 2D1N MCs Cha Tae-hyun and Kim Joon-ho announced their departures from all their programs because of gambling allegations contained in JJY's phone chats. It was odd that Cha and Kim had the exact same explanation of the 2016 event, winning around $2,500 US while golfing among friends. They both claimed it really wasn't gambling because they gave the money back.

Korea has very strict gambling laws. In February, Shoo, a K-Pop singer and actress, real name Yoo Soo-young, was handed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, by a court in Seoul for the crime of “gambling habitually in foreign countries.”

I wonder if Cha and Kim's sudden hiatus was to bury the story if there are other instances of gambling that have not yet been reported in the press. In any event, their image and reputations have been tarnished. People are still wondering who are the next celebrities to be brought down by JJY's "golden phone."

Meanwhile, Jung Joon-Young has admitted the allegations concerning non-consensual filming during sex and covert distribution of said illegal videos. Based upon two prior incidences, possible destruction of past evidence, some legal experts think he could be sentenced to several years in jail if his mitigating apology is not sincere.

Seungri continues to deny the charges against him. But his agency, YG, is now getting a massive tax audit for allegations of tax fraud as a fallout from the scandal.

As I said last week, this story is the most interesting Korean drama so far this year.

I'm reading K-netz comments to the opposite actually : people are saying Cha Tae Hyun & Kim Joon Ho need not have resigned from all shows & the police/news should focus on the real issue.

To me it seems like a precautionary measure. Anything out of Jung Jokn Young's phone is a bomb at the moment. Best to stay low. If this is all the phone gave on them, they'll be back of entertainment, soon enough.

In the US, the current college basketball tournament is a mecca for casual gambling, even though it is illegal. It just is not enforced as being a trivial crime. That is why most people think that story is not a big deal. It all depends on what example Korean prosecutors want to make.

2
reply

Required fields are marked *

I wondered the same about Cha and Kim - all the other celebs who denied the initial stories in this rollercoaster were immediately proven liars with more evidence, so I had to wonder if they immediately apologized and withdrew to keep that from happening. This story continues to spiral and I hope there is a 'Secret Forest' style drama about it in the future.

Happy Friday Beanies!

I just did a bit of housekeeping today. Not the physical type but cleaning up my phone because I'm running out of space. I came across a snapshot of my son's homework in a class on values. He had to list "Some things cannot be done solo:".

He wrote:
Chinese homework(duh!)
Marriage

I guess that's how Mom in The Light of Your Eyes felt and probably many women out there. Married but alone and not just in the physical sense.

The Light In Your Eyes is a beautiful drama. Besides the main topic, the show was really good at small things. The writers must have been able to draw not just from research but also personal observations and real life experiences to write with such perception and insight.

Just take the scene of Joon Ha who showed less enthusiasm than his wife would like at the announcement of his fatherhood. I think we've been sold by dramas and movies that all men react with initial shock then go crazy with joy but it's not necessarily true. Joon Ha's gradual taking to the baby and awkwardness is also something not uncommon and easily mistaken as less loving. Thankfully, Hye Ja was understanding and patient. In the end, Joon Ha managed to overcome his fears and enjoy his son.

Yes there is. You can find many episodes on YouTube. Aircrash investigations is a NatGeo documentary I think. Running since 2003. It's REALLY good. They hire actors to enact the final flight - just enough drama as you are shown what went wrong, and break down the technical aspects of the failure. I got started on the show again when I was looking (out of a random memory) for what happened to Air France Flight 447 which crashed into the Atlantic in 2009 when flying from Rio to Paris. The episode is here:

Thank you. I became fascinated with the Nat Geo documentary about the shopping mall collapse in Seoul while watching JBL. It added so much to the story.

3

Wait @beantown the shopping mall crash was an actual incident? I thought it was a made up accident. That just adds way more depth to the show.

5

@wapzy it was completely real, which takes the drama to a new level, because actual people suffered through that calamity.
Here is the link https://youtu.be/y8Yw9hill1k

4

Woah thanks for the link, no wonder I always thought the show was very well researched. At first I never realized why having a monument was such a big issue untill I came across a similar incident. That made me realize that for sure the writer spent time researching on survivors of disasters/accidents. I wonder if some characters might also be inspired from real people.

Thanks for the pointer to the National Geographic video series SECONDS FROM DISASTER. I had read up on the Sampoong Department Store collapse when I watched MAD DOG and BLACK, which both included building collapses, and recognized the reference when I later saw JUST BETWEEN LOVERS. But I hadn't seen this video, which clearly and very nicely depicts how the disaster unfolded.

In the US, the collapse of the walkways spanning the atrium of the Hyatt Regency hotel's lobby in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1981 was the nation's worst structural failure until the World Trade Center was attacked twenty years later.

As a Bostonian of a certain age, I'm familiar with the plate glass windows falling out of the John Hancock Tower in the early 70s.

It's still an unproductive week in dramaland. I only wait for Waikiki 2 to start next week ! 😊

I might have made a mistake by watching the stage performance of Produce x 101 theme song tho.. After Produce 48 and IZ*ONE, I didn't think I would watch another season of Produce. I wouldn't have clicked on the video if people didn't mention that SKY Castle's Soohan (actor Lee Eugene/Lee Yoo Jin who? I only know baby boy Woo Soohan ! 😆) has participated in the 4th season of that survival show. I know no one except him but I feel tempted to check their upcoming mess broadcast on May 😁

Happy weekend Beanies!

Another calm weekend awaits me, and I can really use one right now. This month was filled with stress Mon-Thursdays and Job interview/ Exam Fridays, sprinkled with job rejections and little sleep in between. Today was no different, but at least two of them went well.

I think I am taking a break until I get feedback next week. Just a few days rest, books, K-dramas and movies. Last weekend I watched some movies on my never-ending list and managed to get past that one chapter I was stuck on for months….I think I might finish reading that book this weekend. ;)

It might be the unemployment dip again, or I am finally changing genres (every beanie has to go through this phase, apparently). I find myself looking forward to upcoming K-drama’s like Special Labour Inspector Jo that are usually not my cup of tea, and actually contemplating watching older ones I used to avoid, simply because they seem to be funny. I am still very proud of the wisest choice I ever made in my life: watching Chief Kim. :p

Talking about humor: Kwak Dong-Yeon will forever go down as the screaming idiot who ripped his pants while getting stuck midair. I am so glad I am still watching Modern Farmer, that scene made my week bearable ;)

Happy Spring! Can't believed it hailed in Los Angeles the other day! It's been a super wet and cold winter thus far.

Kitten season is beginning, the local shelters are starting to be filled up with bottle-fed babies. I'm waiting for them to grow up and eating on their own so I can foster them. I miss having kittens around.

Fiery Priest episode 20 induced some serious belly-aching laughs in me. I think it's a great little show with comedy, action and drama. And how adorable is Kim Nam Gil, seriously? I prefer him playing comedic roles (such as Fiery Priest and Live up to your name) vs villainous roles (such as Memoir of a Murderer).

Has anyone watched the Netflix show Russian Doll? Heard good things and may pick it up after Narcos, which is awesome for those who have not seen it yet.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Hailed here too in no Ca. But I do miss Pasadena! How do you foster kittens? I'd end up keeping every single one of them, and I already rescued six kittens from my neigborhood...they're now between 7 and 10 years old: Sebastian, Majora, Mordred, Baby, Big One, Little One...
I don't dare look out the window any more. But we have a huge coyote problem here, so I haven't seen too many strays lately. Which reminds me, I lost many cats in southern Cal from coyotes.

Actually my first foster was the most difficult to let go. I just have to keep in mind that by giving them up, I can help others. Plus, even though they may seem to love you, they have a short memory, and adapt quickly to the next owners. I know because that’s exactly what happened. We do plan on keeping one when the perfect fit comes along, but for now, we do enjoy fostering little kittens.

One of our friends in Simi Valley one day woke up to loud screeches and later found body parts of a cat scattered around her front yard. The experience was terrifying and took her a while to recover. Poor kitties eaten by coyotes.

Aw... you have a kind soul rescuing so many cats. What color are your cats? Do they get along? Or are they territorial?

Aw, so nice you want to know my kitties! The oldest is a tiny calico female. She was feral and it took about 6 months to get her into the house. Then I found a kitten by the trash can the next year but I've no clue what breed she is. The next four are brothers: 1 grey tabby, 1 black, 1 Siamese and 1 tuxedo cat. The tuxedo is humongous, not fat, but almost as big as a Maine Coon.
Many years ago I had a Siamese mix for about 10 years then had to give her away when I moved to Hawaii. But I kept dreaming about her so when we moved back to Ca a few years later I tracked her down and got her back. Believe me, she remembered me. She lived to about 20 years old. (I still think she was the reincarnation of my grandma, heh.)

Hello all:

Not much happening in these parts. I'm trying to get into doing instagram, also into advertising my books and going to conventions. Plus lose weight. That's about it. Ooh yes, and i signed up to hotpot.tv for chinese dramas.

Dramas:

The Golden Eye. This drama started well and is still pretty good but the easy plotting and the weird stuff characters are made to do in order to forward the plot can be frustrating.

Romance is a bonus book: sweet, life-affirming, humanist, a story full of forgiveness and acceptance of everyone's humanity, even if they are nasty ex husbands. Questionable work colleagues should get a second chance, right?

Radiant: Lovely meditation on old age and regret, even if one does not have Alzheimers. And a quiet feminism that shows how women hard women's lives can be, esp if they are mothers and wives.

I dropped Spring turns to spring because it became repetitive. It's still funny but ...i guess i'll return to finish it up.

I like Psychometric guy. I'm hoping hyung doesn't fall for younger girl. I got a bit nervous when we are told she was 19. But eh, maybe I have the wrong pairing for all four characters.

Am loving I picked up a celebrity. Sung Hoon, now i understand your attraction! He's got such good comic timing.

Doctor Prisoner. I tried to watch it but it didn't grab me. I'll have to rewatch.

Reach of Sincerity/Touch your heart. So sweet. The scene of him crying at the end of one episode had me thinking of Encounter/Boyfriend when Bo-Gum cried. I found myself wondering if crying younger males will be popping up a lot this season.

Legal High. Likable. Fun.
That's about it. I guess i'll be watching confession over the weekend. Saw River's Edge on netflix. It was good. Not sure if i'll watch "My husband won't fit."

Am not a fan of him going wild either but so many korean actors overdo "madness" or "vengeful anger" when they have an extreme character. He's branching out from rom-com so i'm proud of him for trying and because he does good (if a bit over-the-top) villains, and he also does good guys then we viewers will be on our toes wondering how lost he may become. I couldn't deal with the first part of the drama either but i went back and forced myself to go through with it and i think i'm gonna be okay with it....even if he overacts a bit.

TGIF! Hope everybody had a good week (Happy spring break! for some). More new dramas to check out - looking at the ratings, I wonder wacky male lead is new trend? Anyway Sad a few dramas I enjoyed ended, but glad they had satisfying ending. And there were some interviews of casts from dramas just ended. Here is one from Wi Ha-joon(28) who played Ji Seo-joon in Romance is a Bonus Book(RIABB).
According to wiki(and the like), Wi grew up in a small island (SoanDo) which takes 1 hour by boat from WanDo located in southern sea of Korea. What's interesting about this small island is that people seeking refuge during 7year war with Japan in 16th century started to live there, and it is also known as land of independence fighters under Japanese rule(WW2). Wi went to high school in WanDo. The island WanDo is already famous as drama filming site which has a port created for the drama Haesin(2004), and used in dramas including Sindon, Seodongyo, Daejoyoung, Joomong, Yisan, Legends, Sejong the great, Kingdom of wind, Queen Chunchoo, Tamna Island, ChuNo, Kim Soo-ro, Jung do-jun and Legend of Blue sea(2016).

Wi said he joined dance club when he was in junior high school and began to have dream of becoming an actor. But his parents firmly opposed so he moved to Seoul when he was senior in high school and took the acting class. Wi went to the college majoring in theater, but quit to join the air force in 2011. He made short appearance in the film Peace in Them(2012) and in Chinatown(Coin Locker Girl, 2015) Wi played younger version of Uhm Tae-goo. His drama debut was with Goodbye Mr. Black(2016). He got some recognition with his roles in the horror film Gonjiam (2018) as well as in dramas My golden life and Pretty Noona/Something in the Rain. He also appeared in TV variety show Island Trio.
Wi mentioned his role model was Song Gang-ho, but mood (in image) he wanted to have was like Kim Woo-bin.

[StarNews,2019.03.18] RIABB is a romcom telling the story about people who make books in the world people don't read books, centered around a publishing company. Wi played the second lead, freelancer Book designer Ji Seo-joon in RIABB. Wi felt burdened before working on the project. "Because I acted with amazing sunbaes and it was genre I challenged for the first time, I was very nervous. I thought I shouldn't cause any trouble to the project many times." Wi said he finished filming early and enjoyed the later part of show in viewer's point of view. "It was fun even when I watched from a position of a viewer. I was happy people regarded scenes I appeared with Jung Yoo-jin noona cute. But I also felt disappointed thinking "I should've done better." on some scenes.

Wi showed go-straightforward younger man's image for Gang Dan-yi(Lee Na-young) he had crush on in the beginning, and cute bickering image with Song Hae-rin(Jung Yoo-jin) later, making viewers' hearts flustered. "I didn't have confidence doing a romcom so I started working with...

...the mindset I'd just try not to be cursed, but unlike my worry, I received much love so I was grateful. I felt proud that viewers thought of me positively. RIABB is the project which gave me much confidence."

Wi has many genres he wants to challenge. "I like to use my body so I really want to do action. I also like to challenge sageuk. I think I can learn a lot even though it would be difficult. When I think of myself, I think sageuk would fit to my tone. It seems there are many saguek dramas produced again these days." Reaching 30, Wi looks back his 20s. "Except Japan I went as reward trip after Pretty Noona, I haven't been in overseas. I feel my 20s were very regrettable. I have lived not doing what everyone else was doing. I want to see the world in wide view. I want to travel if I can afford time." Wi also said not just travel, he didn't enjoy entertainment and lived confining himself.

Wi has worked with some known actresses in his projects. They include actress So Ye-jin of Pretty noona, Bae Doo-na of Marriage Chaos, Lee Yeon-hee of Island Trio and Lee Na-young, Jung Yoo-jin of RIABB. "I was almost cursed by my friends. I hear what luck I was born with. I feel so honored." They are also all noona. "By accident, I kept working on the projects with actresses who were older than me. I am curious. I wonder if I feel differently if I work with an actress in my age. I want to see how is my acting breath with actress/actor of same age."

About the bromance with Lee Jong-suk, Wi said he was worried because his personality was nothing like that. "When I first read the script, I was worried. But once I started filming, it was fun. I enjoyed when I watched the broadcast too. I worked in perfect harmony with Lee Jong-suk hyung from the start. Jong-suk hyung treated me really well and very considerate."
Wi said his actual personality was gruff and manly unlike his character in the show. "I was almost called as disciplinarian among my friends. As I acted Ji Seo-joon, I tried to talk softly to my friends being nice, but they seemed to feel awkward and avoid me."
Still Wi said he changes in front of a person he likes. "But in front of a person I like, I become friendly and play cute. My love style is go-straight type. That part is similar with Seo-joon." He also talked about his ideal type. "I like a person with a twist. I like a person who looks cold outside and makes you feel difficult to approach, but who is soft inside, consistent, and warm and has good manners, and being cute to me only and resilient when working. If she plays cute only to me, I'd feel I am special." (Director Ko type? heh)

Wi showed his face in many places last year with the film Gonjiam and dramas My golden life, Pretty noona, Marriage Chaos, and the variety Island Trio. Even with such busy schedule, Wi said he was not exhausted at all. "I felt exhausted while I was working, but when I look back, I am glad I did it. When I look back last...

... year, I am really happy and feel proud. I did many projects and got to know many people and felt many things." Wi started his career playing small and short roles which kept growing consistently. "I feel I am currently taking the path I've dreamed of. I am very thankful and I was lucky too. I don't have much greed now. I just want to work my way up step by step like now."

Wi also said the reason he could act in various areas was thanks to the efforts he has made during his old days when he played small roles. "I found all projects, starting from the ones I made short appearance in, were connected. People gave me an opportunity after watching the project I did, and the review got me my next opportunity. All small happenings were connected and I think those helped me to become what I am now."

Wi also appeared in the variety "Island Trio" which helped to let his name known to the public. "As I am a person who is not famous, I received many questions in an interview. I mentioned various things starting from the environment I have lived. I grew up in an island called Soando, and since it was very different many articles mentioned me as "Island man". I think CP Park Sang-hyuk read such article and contacted me." Park made an offer in a short first meeting. "In the first meeting, we talked about 10- 15 min. And he started to talk about show's "regular". I was thankful. CP Park has amazing positive drive."

Here is an interview from Jung Yoo-jin (30) who played Hae-rin (secondary couple with Ji Seo-joon) in the Romance is a Bonus Book. Per Wiki (and the likes), Jung majored in modeling in the college and started her career as a model at YG Entertainment. She has runaway experience since she was 9th grade. Jung debuted with the film "Like for Likes" in 2016 (officially) and dramas Heard It Through the Grapevine and Moorim School. Since then she appeared in W (2016), Something in the Rain/Pretty noona, 30 but 17(2018). Jung also did the beauty variety "Inspire Now"(2010) and "Fashion Lab"(2014). Even though her debut in acting was late, Jung was in the industry appearing in various music videos and a commercial. Because of her tall height and elegant mask, she has acted mostly a career woman (and sub female lead who has one-sided crush on the male lead). Her strength is soft voice.

[StarNews,2019.03.14] RIABB dealt with the hardship of "GyungDanNyo"(woman who was cut off from employment opportunity after leaving work for marriage and raising children) through the female lead Gang Dan-yi(Lee Na-young) who drew sympathy from viewers. Jung said it was relatable on personal level. "I have worked as a model for a long time and it was profession of waiting. There was time I couldn't find work for 6 months, and there was time I was removed from a show unintentionally. Same with an actress. Not everything works out just because I want, I have to make choices, and there are times simply I am not asked for. Various conditions have to be met. Everything has to fall into a place." Remembering her modeling days, Jung said "I wasted my time a lot. Because of my worries, I couldn't' spend time well. After those time passed, I thought a lot that I really have to treasure my time. Now I try not to feel impatient, and try to spend time wisely to become a better actress."

Jung played Song Hae-rin who had one-sided crush on editor Cha Eun-ho/Lee Jong-suk. About the question if she had one-sided crush experience, Jung said, "Of course I had. If I hadn't I don't think I could do such acting well. I had when I was young, but it didn't work out." As one of the most memorable scenes, Jung picked the scene where she was rejected after she confessed to Cha Eun-ho. "It was a scene Hae-rin was rejected by Eun-ho- that scene was very difficult when I read the scripts. I got rejected, but I didn't have the person in front of me, and Eun-ho knew I wrote the letters. So I worried how I was going to act, and discussed with director-nim a lot. Thankfully director-nim made setting perfectly so that I could focus on the scene. I thought "I have to immerse well", "Do as I feel her emotion."

Jung was happy about the set atmosphere and team work with casts. "It was fantastic. I am so thankful to actors." She picked Lee Na-young as one of co-actors she felt the most thankful. "Set atmosphere itself had endless laugh. I think it was thanks to...

...Na-young sunbae. Na-young sunbae approached first to each staff when he/she was exhausted and took care of him/her. It is really not easy thing to do, and I thought she was wonderful and wanted to be like her as I watched her. She is a person who is very easy-going and takes care of even trivial things. Maybe that was why the filming set atmosphere was even better."

Jung talked about her profession in an interview done after Pretty Noona ended last year. Here is Q&A session.[Star1, 2018.06.29]
Q: You did modeling before. Did your direction in your dream change?
Jung: I always wanted to do acting. I started modeling because I was cast for modeling by accident, but if you look modeling in a bigger picture, it is also profession of acting- With expression and body gesture. I think I had more interests about acting as I was expressing various things as a model.
Q: There must've been occasions you felt anxious walking the road of an actress.
Jung: I think everyone has such anxiety. When I was in such situation, some sunbae-nim told me that was "growing pain"- Since it was process to become a better actress, I should not feel too troubled. That remark was very helpful. When I worked as model, or 2-3 years after I started acting, I worried a lot questioning if it was my road, if that was right. But I came to think only one thing "This is the work I am enjoying doing. Feeling difficulty is given no matter what I do. I kept telling myself- Since there could be even harder times ahead, I should be flexible and deal with it calmly.

Q: What mindset did you have when you became an actress?
Jung: Actress is profession more exposed to public than a model. I got hurt by some responses or comments, and there were times I get wavered by those, but I try to think positively. Because my work is to express a certain character for her, I have to live with pure and healthy mindset so that I can relay good spirit to viewers. So I tell myself to think positively, and put good energy into acting.

Q: Is there your distinct way to gain good energy?
Jung: I go to catholic church. I go often and pray and get strength. As I do that, good energy come up naturally.
Q: I heard you enjoy basketball and bowling.
Jung: I have older brothers. Maybe because I grew up like brothers with them, I liked to play game of slap-match(boys' game) or running around in the playground rather than playing Elastic string (girls' game). I like to play with balls.

...Q: You mostly played cool and confident roles with girl-crush charms. You might have thirst for other roles. What role you want to play the most?
Jung: I wonder those roles were given to me because visual side were mostly reflected. But if you check characters I have played in more detail, you will know they look similar outside, but actually different. So you can find unique charm within them. For me it was always refreshing and fun. However I think if I keep working without a complaint for roles given, not being impatient, I might be able to meet challenging projects. If I work hard.
I like noir. I'd like to play the role where I can show restraint feeling even though it is dark and gloomy. I think I can do well. Some people tell me I am single-minded. Because I don't tent to go around or meet people often. I stay home or meet neighborhood friends. And I tend to find the place with no people around, quiet and leisurely. My real self is very different from characters I play, and people who know me tell me "You look so unfamiliar".

Q: What is your goal as an actress?
Jun: I want to be an actress getting response like "She seems like a nice person" rather than "She is coool". I can't meet viewers in person, but I'd like to pass on good energy reflecting my energy on my characters. It will be nice if they can watch my such image smiling.

Q: What is the person Jung Yoo-jin's life's direction?
Jung: Small happiness. There are many times I miss small happiness as I live busy life. I don't think there is something giving me more energy than small happiness in any saturation. Even when I feel strenuous and exhausting, if I can feel good with one delicious dish, that is happiness. Chatting for an hour laughing with people I like is happiness too. I try not to miss those things because they are precious. In the past I was so engrossed on work that I missed such small happiness, but now I know those small things bring happiness. I would like to live a life feeling small happiness.

I just finished Radiant/The light in your eyes and I cannot get over how good it turned out to be.
I started it out as a 'simple' time travel gone wrong drama with comedy hijinks and some family melo stuff.
And then it dropped the mother of all twists in Ep 10.
Wasn't there a Beanie topic of the months a couple months ago about drama twists? Well this one beats most!

It literally changes everything about the first 10 episodes and it takes such a wonderfully poignant turn that makes me question life in general and how I view it!

Kim Hye Ja, the actress is absolutely amazing! The way she has delivered the dialogues, the acting, the expression going to 0-100 in the split of a sec were just perfect!

People who are going to watch this drama (do go watch it!) prepare tissues. I didn't once, and my collar of my dress was soaked through. But these are good tears.

Spot on. I found myself questioning life in general and I how view it too. Right with you there. Beautiful and poignant. Everything came together, writing, acting, camera work, cast and crew, wow. Best. Drama. Ever.
They have a fb page and the cast and crew thanked everyone for their viewership. It was nice to be able to comment back to them, thanking them as well.

I won't be writing for Theme of the Month anymore.

This one deals with the awful that was the Feel Good to Die adaptation.

HELLO EVERYBODY!

I've not been watching any Kdrama lately. I've been too busy this week so I only got time to watch Hyori's Bed & Breakfast and then watched Captain Marvel at cinema with a friend, it was good and I loved the hero moment when she recalled all of the moments where she got back up and ready to try again.

I'll get back into Kdrama eventually, so I can talk about it with you guys :)

Hello all!! Just wanted to pop in and say my week was good, a bit of a job hunt going on right now, lots of applying for online translation work (need to start somewhere, right? I have no idea how good my language levels really are professionally thoughㅠㅠ) best part of the interview process: talking with the guy working outside the manager's office. Turns out he likes kpop--my favorite, Seventeen, too^^

On the drama front, I just tried not to cry buckets of tears finishing Just Between Lovers late last... early this morning. That was a really good drama. My dilemma? Where do I go from here? I definitely need a change in tone (so. painful. so. good.) so hopefully something lighter? Or maybe epic, and ditch the lovelines? My only lead so far is to pick back up on Moonlight Drawn By Clouds which got put on hold for a while (watching with someone, that fell through). Personal growth through watching a plus. Any thoughts?

Also watching:
My Secret Terrius

How do you think a person who tend to observe things can turn into someone who engages in the beauty of being alive? Fate has brought us together, a phlegmatic woman and a sanguine guy.
While he wears his heart on his sleeve, I'm unlikely to express more than a smile or a frown. He openly expresses his affection through hugs and stroking and grabbing shoulders and things like that. My emotions happen mainly internally and I have an unbelievable poker face. Is it possible for me to change, to feel more uninhibited? When it's about romance (and emotions such as joy or enthusiasm), I feel completely lost. Not being able to express your feelings can sometimes be bothersome if you want to live a thing called life.

I signed on to twitter early this morning to catch up on the political news, and saw that one of the gossip rags has an article up saying that JCW **may** be involved in the Seungri scandal, b/c there is allegedly a photo of him with a woman who is a minor investor (10%) in the club.

The men who ran a prostitution ring out of this club deserve prison and fines. But this scandal is starting to pull in so many people who appear to be remotely or incidentally connected that I'm getting scared to read the latest news. I'm still completely confused as to why it's a career ending move to bet on a golf game . . . .

I am old and illiterate when it comes to technology, but I am really curious about two things regarding this site: 1) what is the purpose of the “Follow”? How does it work? I “followed” some beanies but have no way to retrieve who I followed and benefit of following. 2) I remember reading a beanie’s comment on how to “bold” words, such as a title of a drama. Is there somewhere I can go to find “how to”. Also some recent terminology has thrown me i.e. “rabbit” I think has something to do with viewing a drama? And maybe the comments are “tongue in cheek” and I did not realize it? I know I really should just ask when I see the comment, but until recently I just lurked. Who would have thought watching K-drama would lead to a desire to learn more about formatting online for instance.

1) Follow is a broken feature right now. :( You're supposed to follow beanies you want to see when you visit the fanwall. (You can reach the fanwall by clicking BEANIES at the topmost menu and the MORE FAN POSTS button) http://www.dramabeans.com/fan-posts/
Right now, it just shows you all the beanies' posts. It's a wild land full of spoilers and squees and gifs and gems. Tread with care.

2) There are different versions floating around but you only really need these tags (IMO) to write effectively: http://www.dramabeans.com/members/mary/activity/206796/

3) rabbit is a separate site/app where you can groupwatch a show. Basically, one person "hosts" it, and the rest of the group can watch with them. There are groups of beanies organizing groupwatch. Sometimes for current, sometimes for nostalgic shows. I haven't tried it yet.. They're usually here in OT or posting on the fanwall for schedules. Since you asked about it, I'm sure the ringleaders will come find you soon and hook you too. Hehe

Hehe, hello! I’m one of the ringleaders, as Mary puts it.

Rabb.it is a site/website where we can watch dramas/music videos together and comment in real time! We also discuss stuff in a main chat group, and share our opinions (and cats, and food) for fun!

Do come join, if you like! We’re not limited to dramas, either. We do music rooms, Austen + Gaskell watches, book discussions, and all kinds of tomfoolery. It’s a fun time.

Hehe Traumabeans is where Beanies gather to mend ourselves....with "all kinds of tomfoolery" as @bammsie describes so perfectly! 😆

Ah yes, @kimbapnoona, the person who’s never on the Rabbit chat anymore... -grumbles-

1

Don't worry @keiko the Traumabeanies are mostly harmless, but a at times they can be a bit raucous. Just kidding. They are a fun and supportive group.

Watch the fan wall for the occasional announcement of a group watch. Some are regular weekly affairs, while others are spur of the moment events.

Spent the week finishing The Light In Your Eyes and I'm really so so sad it's over :"( It needs so much more recognition because every bit of it is just amazing!! I picked it up just because it sounded interesting and I wasn't really keen on watching anything else (ok and also bc Nam Joo Hyuk's in it) but I never foresaw becoming so attached to this piece of art!! The whole storyline is really sad and becomes even more so after the plot twist (please please at least watch it for this) and it's so moving and heart-wrenching. Han Jimin did a great job at pulling off Kim Hye Ja's character and Kim Hye Ja herself was excellent at portraying a 25-year-old woman in a granny's body. Nam Joo Hyuk's acting went up a few notches after this role,, his crying scenes really got me sobbing :--(((( AND MY FAVOURITE --- (potential spoiler) NJH IN 70s CLOTHES AND HAIR AND A BABYYY

To anyone looking for a good watch - The Light In Your Eyes is the one for you!

Also, earlier this week I finished Dae Jang Geum is Watching and I'm honestly glad it's over. Why have Dae Jang Geum in the title if there's almost no connection to her at all ??? The plot development is nonexistent and I honestly only stayed for the eating scenes. (idk if it's intentional or what but tbh djgiw just feels like a badly adapted, kdrama-fied version of Kodoku no Gourmet (aka Solitary Gourmet)???)

I love the prison scene, his crying was so good in that. I love all his scenes with the baby, they are the cutest ever. Gosh! I miss this drama.
