I need help! I like Hyuk who has done all sorts of evil deeds. But then he is nice and sweet, and suddenly he reverts to being evil. And theres his coffee-arc and bunny-arc. Not to be forgotten his shoulder-wiggle.

Hahaha....ok. i need help.

It's okay, just remember he is not real and if you encountered Hyuk in real life, you would run far far away because nobody has time for that kind of cray cray. But he's fun to watch on our screens.

Thanks @egads. Just the reminder needed.

I don't want to encounter a real life Hyuk. I'll run far far far farrrr away. Only in dramaland can i tolerate this level of cray.

He is indeed very fun to watch on our screens 😆

I think that show did him a disservice by making him a murderer.

It was just a blatant justification for Sunny to get with useless bodyguard.

Seriously, we are suppose to root for her and Woo bin.

I suppose it was intended to make it easy for viewers to root for Sunny and Bin.

Somehow along the way, Hyuk became more interesting and the rooting line gets blurred. If only he did not kill keeps popping up in my mind each time. Huhu

I feel that the writer have a wild imagination of writing the emperor, on top of that with casting Shin Sung-rok on it

The more I learn about Japanese-Korean history of the last 100 or so years, the more I realize how miserable these people were, and what we see is the result of only recent democracy, technology, and trade pulling both these countries out of poverty and despair. So a reply in this period would kinda be depressing.

The Korean dramas that have depicted the era are often half truth. If you are interested in the history, I would recommend a travel journal to Korea by Isabella Bird( a British traveller) prior to the Japanese annexation. I think you can read the journal free below.
https://archive.org/details/koreaandherneig02birdgoog/page/n5

As for the time of the annexation and prior, there are three interesting interview of a Korean man who had lived both in Korea and Japan. The interview was conducted in Japanese( but subtitled in English). He is sort of pro Japanese but i think he speaks the painful history that dramas do not want to touch.

Hi Everyone and Happy OT!!!
I should be a bit sad because I was supposed to be at the Singapore Beanie meet-up but I got the flu!!! So I'm home, coughing a lot, but I'm so pleased at having received and looking at the photos of the meet-up gang. They just sent out the pics and they look great and so happy at a Korean restaurant in town. 😁

I'm sure @greenfields and @neener will have more to 'report' when they have some time after all the fun.

I've reduced my drama watching to just Alhambra, Encounter / Boyfriend and Red Moon, Blue Sun, what with work and real life stuff to do and no other show seeming to hold my attention. It's good though, since I really need to be paying attention to several other RL things.

And I surprised myself by just going out and buying a car. No small investment in my part of the world!!! I didn't have much choice unless I wanted to stop driving, but wow! ... the difference in the bank account after a mere 3 hours looking around car showrooms. 😂 I'm getting the car in April and will have a month when I will not have a vehicle. Wish me luck that I get to either borrow a car or get a not too expensive alternative in commuting especially in the school break of March!!! 😆

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all doing well today!

Drenched after consecutive days of nonstop rain. Hoping for a few days of sunshine because now we need to dry out a little bit.

The Last Empress - It just cracks me up how the emperor's personal bodyguard calls him and Min Yu-ra, as Na Wang-shik, to issue threats and they both haven't figured out who it is by the sound of his voice! I mean, it's so distinctive and they hear it every single day! ...... Totally enjoying this crazy ride!

The Crowned Clown - Gave the first episode a try after reading positive comments from our fellow Beanies. For sure the shots are gorgeous and Yeo Jin-gu is doing a fabulous job in the double role ...... but I must not be in a total sageuk mood at this very moment because I've decided to put this one aside for the time being.

Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2 - Never watched the first season so I went in completely unfamiliar with the main character of this show. I have to say though that the main draw for me is Go Hyun-jung, to see what vibe she brings to her villain role. So far she has an air of mystery with a dose of bizarreness. At this point there are more questions than details about her.

SKY Castle - I've watched up to episode 15, so I'm behind one, but what can one say when a show keeps on blowing your mind with Every. Single. Episode ...... just when you think it no longer can? It continues to deliver. ....... The whodunit ....... The oh-no-Dr. Kang-didn't-just-do-that-at-the-hospital ....... The what-is-Coach-Kim-thinking-at-any-given-time ....... Just everything. Just wow.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and and have a great Friday!

Hi korfan, I can also not be in a sageuk mood, so I get putting TCC on the back burner. I will put in a plug for it, though - ep 3/4 are pretty good! i am anxious to start Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2, but I've got a big project in overtime and I can't start something that requires concentration right now. So, that's on the back burner for me! Encounter (Boyfriend) is getting k-drama heartache-y in a good-bad way and Bo Geum makes it all the more painful because he is so handsomely sincere.
You have a nice Friday as well!

It's open thread friday and my birthday today! Haven't posted in a while but it doesn't come around often that these two things line up so thought I'd post.
Does anyone else not enjoy their birthday and have anxiety over it? I'm one of those and recently found out there is such thing as "Birthday Blues". I think I have this. Something about this day just gets me all tense, I feel pressured to "enjoy" the day and always seem disappointed by the end of it. Bleh.

Good morning Beanies! I've been on a kdrama binge lately. Watching tons of shows that are all excellent so far. Question though. I've not heard much about Clean with Passion. I was planning to watch it next. Is it worth watching? 🤓

Memories of the Alhambra Really loving the concept of this one. I am not 100% sure where they will go for the last 2 episodes. I just hope Yoo Jin-Woo has a happy ending, because after the year he has had, he deserves one. The drama is coming to its boiling point. The key was handed off the Emma, Jin-Woo proved to Professor Cha he wasn't crazy, and Se-Joo seems to have returned. Thankfully Jung Hee-Joo started doing something more then just crying. I've been very disappointed in her character as the first about 12 episodes was just her crying in almost every scene and hasn't added anything substantial to the drama. Park Shin-Hye is fine as Hee-Joo, but she doesn't really add anything special to the character. Can't wait for this conclusion!

An Empress's Dignity I binge watched this in 4 days. Like others have said it's over the top and you have to suspend belief on things (like Na Wang-Sik's unbelievable transformation) but it's such an addictive and fun watch. It has it all, revenge, murder, infidelity, birth secrets, conspiracies, hidden identities, and secret pasts. All the actors are doing an excellent job, especially Shin Sung-Rok as Lee Hyuk. He is such a fun protagonist. I run the emotions of disliking him, hating him, loving him, to pitying him. He is this awful person but then I can't help but find him adorable and pitiful in the later episodes. I also love Sunny's transformation. I went from being embarrassed for her in the beginning to being disgusted at her (when she was trying to not believe Lee Hyuk cheated on her) to loving her and the strong, kick-ass woman she has become. Choi Jin-Hyuk's character Na Wang-Sik is less interesting as he has been the same basically through the whole drama. He also looks perpetually worried. I'm still rooting for him and Sunny though. Can't wait for more episodes to come out and hopefully Sunny can make some progress on taking down the Imperial Family. Also, I am pretty sure the dead body at the beginning of the drama is So-heon.

My Strange Hero This has been my favorite roll Yoo Seung-Ho has been in so far. He is doing a perfect job as Kang Bok-Su who has a chip on his shoulder, but has a heart of gold. I've never really found Yoo Seung-Ho that attractive before, but he is super attractive to me in this drama. I love his character and excited to see some sweet romance and reconciliation between him and Son Soo-Jeong. Kwak Dong-Yeon is doing an excellent job portraying Oh Se-Ho who I am pretty sure is a psychopath, or has something very mentally unstable about him. He definitely creeps me out. But so far I am really enjoying this and excited to see where Bok-su goes with his revenge.

Boyfriend I've only seen 2 episodes of this but it seems like it will be a sweet, fun and breezy watch. The only gripe I have so far is Kim Jin-Hyeok seems a bit too immature for my likes. That may improve as the drama progresses since I'm really early into the show and it may actually end up being cute or fun. Thank the goddess Park Bo-Gum cut his hair. I know some people liked it but I think he is 500x better with short hair.

Hi there, beanies! I ended up bingeing 8 episodes of The Fan and can't wait for the final rounds! What I like the best about this show is the Fan panel - BoA, Yoo Hee Yeol. Lee Sang Min, and Kim Ea Na - they are all musicians with constructive evaluations of the contestants. The contestants are recommended by famous singers and entertainers like Shinhwa, Gummy, Lena Park. Tiger JK . . . which ups the expectation on the contestants' talents. This week will determine the Top 5 and I'm rooting for Ji Min and BIBI.
Another entertainment show that I've added to my watch list is The Manager. I hope guest Kwanghee who was recently discharged gets an MC stint somewhere!
Also watching Memories of the Alhambra, Boyfriend, Strange Hero, The Crowned Clown and have a couple I'd like to start but I've got a big project that keeps me from concentrating on shows just now.

It dawned on me that I don't yet have any travel plans this year. Crazily enough, I have a vague plan to travel to Japan for the 2020 Olympics and also visit S. Korea - I should get on the details if I want to make that happen! Have a great weekend, everyone ~

Happy weekend Beanies!

This year I want to keep busy with travelling and hobbies, whether I am employed or not. So I made a 2019 calendar with all possible hobbies and fun activities for each month, as part of my new year resolution plans. The execution is something else entirely and predicts two possible outcomes for now. Or I will get in another unemployment slump, or I’ll leave my comfort zone to do stuff, but risk doing too much in order to avoid the unemployment slump.

It is not easy to ponder the right balance while work keeps me busy and little sleep clouds my judgement. By the time I will have time to properly think about it, some deadlines for later this year will have passed already. I wish I could time travel to give myself more time to think, and to sneak peek to how it will all work out eventually.

Oh well, it is only January… everybody fails resolutions at least once before January ends. ;)

Required fields are marked *

LOL @turtuallysarcastic You made your resolutions sound like an urgent 'To Do' list. It's good that you've decided the things that you 'may' do, but as they're in the area of hobbies and fun stuff, then let them be things that you can take you time starting on when you're free, and no pressure to move on to the next 'task' until:

(1) you've enjoyed thoroughly the one you're currently doing, (2) the one you're doing has an actual completion date which has passed, or (3) if current hobby continues, then it continues ... so you may not start your next task! (4) You really can feel un-pressured to take time to enjoy the hobbies/fun things!!!

Enjoy yourself! 😃

Old Australian show maybe based on a novel about 5 teenage girls.
I think it has 20 episodes of 20 minutes per episode. There are few Aussies here and i assume they might have seen it in their teenage years.

TGIF! Hope everybody had nice week. I am sad that another drama I enjoyed- "Red Moon, Blue Sun" ended. (finale episode was somewhat disappointing tho) And I have to say that I was impressed with Lee Yi-kyung(30) who played a determined detective Ji-heon when his Waikiki character is still fresh in my mind. He had an interview after the show completed.
But first here is short intro. Per wiki[and the like], Lee was a model student with good grades and athlete (Karate) in middle school. When he was 18 he moved to Seoul and prepared for the college exam in Noryangjin (yeah that Noryangjin in Drinking solo). He entered a Sport university, but had knee injury and took a leave and ended up doing his military service. After he returned to the college, Lee took acting class and eventually quit his school to enter another college majoring in acting. Lee said he watched a drama for the first time in the army because of influence of his strict father when he grew up. The drama "Iris" made him think about acting career.

Lee made his debut in 2011 (Star audition, Great birth) but his first notable acting was in the drama "School 2013" where he played a rebellious student. He also appeared in My Love from the Star (2013), Descendants of the Sun (2016), Go back Couple(2017), Partners for Justice, Waikiki (2018) and more. Lee has played comical characters as well as serious ones, showing variety of acting skills. He also did a few independent and commercial films.

Lee's family background made buzz when it revealed that his father was the CEO of LG (Innotek). In 2013, He got punished for drinking driving. (funny?) He got caught while he was parking near his house. (Driving was done by substitute driver.)
Lee appeared in the King of Masked singer in 2017, where he stated that he wanted to show he was a cute person because people remembered him from scary roles due to his sharp appearance. And as we know, in early 2018 he admitted dating Waikiki co-star Jung In-sun, but they broke up two months later. He has also done a few varieties including "Dangerous Beyond the Blankets" (2018).

Onto the interview. [OSEN, StarNews]
Q: RMBS ended after hard work in the story as well as actors' acting wise.
Lee: Among all the projects I've worked, time flied the quickest with this project. When I told Kim Sun-ah sunbae-num, she said time past really fast for her too. I prepared reading the scripts so much that pages torn apart, and I had lots of advice from Sun-ah sunbae. It was a project I had so much affection and efforts. I thought I am the type who can step out well from the character I play, but I couldn't this time. Director-nim also said "You are just Kang Ji-heon."

Q: How did you take on the role in this project?
Lee: I have comical image to the public because I've played some comically strong characters in the past. I received the RMBS scripts at the time I was confused thinking if I was fit for funny characters because many people...

...said so. I was in Paris for filming "Borderless Food Cart" and I read the scripts on my cell. I was not confident. I had fear trying this new character thinking I lacked to digest the role with doubts if I could do well. I discussed with people in my company- I said if they make Waikiki 2, I should do that first, but they said I could show more in the process of going forward for bigger picture. We talked a lot about what I can do and what I should do. I think I was the most sensitive when I did this project. I had to prepare a lot for filming and mentally prepared to have many hateful comments. Considering that, I had happy ending.

Q: You left strong impression to the viewers playing Kang Ji-heon who felt hesitation to punish the murderer Red Cry at the end, showing complicated side of the character while portraying the image of ideal and rules-abiding detective.
Lee: The comments made me the happiest were "I feel that real detective like him exists.", "He is a real detective.". I think this is the beginning. It gave me confidence. There is uncertainty whatever I do since there is no answer and no good/bad in acting characters.

Q: Were you disappointed at ratings which stayed in 5%, considering how hard you've worked giving emotional acting?
Maybe I am an optimistic person. Although there were strong dramas like "Boyfriend" and "Last Empress" at the same time slot, we could keep the mania fans without wavering in ratings. If ratings went down even just once, or if it fluctuated, I would feel conflicted, but I was glad it kept 5-6% to the end. Sun-ah sunbae-nim said "You will not regret doing this project. Didn't I tell you our project is good?" which eased my mind.

Q: I feel you were the mood maker on the set.
Lee: I tried to make the atmosphere happy with the thought "you don't laugh because you are happy, you are happy because you laugh". Filming was tight and there were loads of things to prepare due to its genre and the schedule for broadcast preponed, so everyone had hardships. I took upon "playing cute" part and Sunah sunbae-nim laughed a lot. I was grateful when she said "I want to meet Yi-kyung in the next project too."
Q: What help did you get from Kim Sun-ah who played Woo-kyung?
Lee: When I tried to understand my character I discussed with Sun-ah sunbae-nim the most. Before filming started whenever I felt confused or couldn't find the likelihood, I called her like at 4am and talked about my character for 1-2 hours at least. I think I can't forget sunbae-nim went that far to help when she must've been busy playing her character.
Q: As the show told heavy story throwing thoughtful messages about child abuse, it seemed not easy to attract new viewers in the middle of the show.
Lee: First, the script itself was very difficult. It was not the script you could act after reading once or twice. Because it was so hard when I read that I had to discuss a lot with director-nim and Sun-ah...

...sunbae-nim. That was the part we paid the most attention, and we tried to act so that the viewers could accept more comfortably. The writing was very fun like a novel. But we had to realize it through acting. It was difficult process to portray the novel. As deliberating with Sun-ah sunbae-nim, there were times we acted after changing the order of conversation to make watching easier for the viewers. And the amounts of lines were overwhelming too.

Q: How was acting with Cha Hak-yeon who played Eun-ho?
Lee: I talked with director-nim about this also- he is very sincere person. About the part he prepared, he said "Hyung, how about this? How about matching up our lines?" We coordinated our lines together a lot. Since even with same script everyone shows different acting style. I like live style, and Hak-yeon likes to act exactly in the calculated situation, so it was fun harmonizing. He is a person with natural sense. I think I am blessed to know Hak-yeon. Even today I talked in the chat room.
Q: What you two talked about?
Lee: He thinks I am very fun. He says just seeing me kills him from laughing. His character ended early with his death, you know. So when I asked what he was doing, he sent the text "I am lying down now.", "I ordered the chicken delivery." with pretty selfi he took of himself. We spend every day having fun like that. We have group as well as personal chat room.

Q: The identity of Red Cry was the main mystery. Did actors act without knowing?
Lee: Nobody knew who Red Cry was. I only found out later when I saw the actor's name written on the schedule. Sun-ah sunbae-nim mentioned a few candidates and he was one of them. I felt that it was Sun-ah sunbae-nim. A few people asked me if I was Red Cry. I think director nim didn't tell us on purpose maybe because he thought it was better for us to act without knowing.

Q: It must not have been easy acting carrying such heavy tone.
Lee: I cry easily. I think Ji-heon would be the most painful character I've ever played and play. I had a few NG because I teared up acting. There was a scene in finale ep. RC was talking tapping the pen, and I was not supposed to cry. When filming I cried even with having nose run, so it made NG. I think I immersed in that scene the most. I still have lingering feeling that there are many things I want to ask writer-nim, but I wonder I should not ask if I want to step out from the drama quickly.
Q: You must have gotten interested in the subject of child abuse.
Lee: I've never had a chance to think about the matter. Since I don't have any child even though I have nephews. When I asked director nim he said there are even more terrible victim cases in real life.

...Q: You work without taking a break because you are to film for Waikiki right away. Are you ok physically?
Lee: Doing this project I took Omega for the first time. I go to the same gym as Park Seo-joon(What's wrong with secretary Kim). As we talked about dietary supplements, he told me to take milk thistle. I seem to get exhausted less maybe because it protects liver. btw I am not trying to sell it.
Q: You originally majored sports in the college.
Lee: Since I use my body when I do a comedy, I find out how my body is used and I feel my experience in sports helps. Even my mother acknowledges my physical strength. The filming finished yesterday morning after pulling 3 all-nighter, and I didn't have time to sleep because I had other schedules too. I slept for the first time after 3 days but I feel fresh now. I really feel ok.

Q: Any changes you had with new year?
Lee: Taking the supplements diligently, first of all. I became more cautious. In the past I moved my body first, but now I think first before acting. I think I gained knack (behaving) within the angle for sure.
Q: You return with Waikiki season 2. How do you feel?
Lee: I thought "It is such strong character. Do I have to play it again?" But I wondered/hoped if my own brand can be created doing this.
Writer-nim said "Because there are so much you left behind, I hope you can work with us again." Filming began already and I have to start soon.
Q: What was it like meeting new members in Waikiki 2? Do you feel responsibility and burden leading the new members because you are the only actor who appear in both series?
Lee: They are very good people. Everyone is character who flows into the show naturally. I think that I stay together with them, but in an episode I am out and support new characters. At first I thought "What is my position?", "I am disappointed.", but as I view the project as whole, I find it is the right way to go. Everybody's acting breath is really good.

Q: You've played both cheerful and serious character. Is there any genre you want to challenge?
Lee: I want to try a romcom. I wonder if it will show clear line as an actor if I do a romcom since I've done other contrasting acting.
Q: If there is a goal in 2019?
Lee: I have to move as soon as possible. That is my highest priority. And since I wanted to do music for a while, I am thinking about that too. I want to play piano and compose. There is emptiness an actor feels when he finishes a project, but I feel with music there is something fulfilled after the work is completed. There are people who are willing to help me. Also I did oil painting in the past, which I want to continue. So I want to do more on learning things like that. I also want to try different sports. I also recently wrote 3 scripts. It is not up to the level to be made to a project, but they were reviewed favorably. So I am happy thinking I am a person who can be used in various areas.

Thank you so much! It's good he's using his energy in different fields, it opens eyes. So in real life he is like a Sky Castle child with strict dad. I wonder if the "rod of love" knowledge was referring to his real life experiences...

1

Thank you so much, @fan, just skimmed this but want to come back to read more carefully. He was one of the (many) highlights of this amazing work of art.

1

Oh! I didn't know his DUI was from parking. Now I feel really bad for him because I remember seeing that DUI article right after his major debut in School 2013 and being super disappointed in him, but I never saw the follow-up saying that he had actually used a substitute driver. It's such a shame that the press had to punish him by implying he's reckless when he really was trying to be responsible about drinking and driving. Especially as a rookie actor who was just starting to get noticed but wasn't popular enough that people would feel the need to pay attention to any follow articles about him, I think those initial DUI articles did some significant damage on his ability to take advantage of School 2013 putting his name on the table for future projects. *Sigh* At least I can support him guilt-free now. I really took a liking to him with RMBS and was sad that someone so responsible and smart looking made such a stupid decision in the past. I hope he gets more and more lead roles now, including a rom-com! He may not have the typical male lead looks but I think he's got plenty of charisma!

I am sad Alhambra has only 2 episodes left because I had fun watching. Writer Song Jae-jung had an interview on 15th. You might have read it in other places already but here are some portion of the interview.[OSEN] About characters around Yoo Jin-woo(Hyun Bin), Song stated, "I wrote Alhambra by entwining 3 main stems together. First one is Game, second one is characters' relationships and veiled enmity centered around Jin-woo and Hyung-suk, and the last one is love story between Jin-woo and Hee-joo. People ask me "Why his exs keep appearing?" but I wrote them in earnest because they were important axis of the drama from the start. Because how Jin-woo made mistakes in the past, those wrong choices piled up like a retribution and how they are resolved in the last moment, and how he approaches to Hee-joo after that were so important that I didn't shorten the stories about people close to him."

Song also mentioned about the setup of "urgent arrest(arrest without a warrant)" which became an issue after the broadcast last week. "I wrote it after being consulted with a professional in the field. I added it because I was told "urgent arrest" not "arrest with warrant" was possible with that level of testimony. It was highly possible situation."
About the responses that the show lacks in melo/romance part, Song explained, "It is hard to write romance. Initially my ideas was friendship-like relationship between Jin-woo and Hee-joo. But when I found the casting of Hyun Bin ssi and Park Sin-hye ssi, I thought their beauty would be such waste so I added more romance making sure not ruining the plot. So actually romantic details were increased from what I designed originally."

Song continued, "It still has important function of Emma(Park Sin-hye) for viewers yet to see. Please keep watching because it will reveal why it had to be Emma, why Park Sin-hye ssi had to be Emma. It will also uncover past relationships dreadfully entangled for Jin-woo, and how the matters with ex-wives and Hyung-suk and his father are being sorted out. I feel Jin-woo can go to Hee-joo only when those matters are settled. He will have to resolve them thoroughly first." Song added, "I really feel it is such shame that Hee-joo is underused. I view that is why it needs Jin-woo's resolution. I hope the viewers pay close attention to the story how Jin Woo will pay his mental debt and what the complete resolution is."

Song praised two leads Hyun bin and Park Sin-hye. "I was shocked and very impressed watching Hyun Bin ssi's acting. Jin-woo character should be able to do both action and melo, and have good physical condition, and I don't think any other actor than Hyun-bin ssi in this country can digest the role. For Park Sin-hye ssi, I asked for understanding before the drama started. I thought there could be disappointment since there was no action for her character. But she understood and showed much interests in Emma character. Actually I was surprised...

watching Park Sin-hye ssi's melo acting because she did so well."

About the question "Was there any message you wanted to convey through the Alhambra?", Song said "There are people who say my project is difficult to understand, but I think it is actually very simple. Odyssey(Odysseus), the king who had everything even experienced counterattacks and mythical events. It is a hero story with magical and realistic incidents. Male lead in my project is similar to such hero. As you see, Batman and Ironman became hero after they fell to the bottom. You can imagine Yoo Jin-woo is like them. The show presented the process of a person who was not hero turning into a real hero as he finds his love going through various incidents in the reality and game. So Alhambra is a hero show."
^^

Regardless of issues people have with the show, I am just grateful to the writer for giving us something different. So excited to find out what Alhambra has in store in finale episodes.

Writing is hard, is it not? I feel that the love story really wasn't developed very well and shoe-horned in like she describes. I wish that she would have gone with her first inclination and not made it a love story. HB could have carried this whole show without a love-line. And for the most part he has. Thanks (as always) for the translations! My comment is awaiting moderation because I linked too many YouTube videos to it! LOL.

Thanks very much @fan. I read about the romance being an afterthought in another blog. I now see what is meant since Writer Song says: "About the responses that the show lacks in melo/romance part, Song explained, "It is hard to write romance. Initially my ideas was friendship-like relationship between Jin-woo and Hee-joo. But when I found the casting of Hyun Bin ssi and Park Sin-hye ssi, I thought their beauty would be such waste so I added more romance making sure not ruining the plot. So actually romantic details were increased from what I designed originally." "

On a separate note: Since I was 'encouraged' by the same blog owner @packmule3 to also share her view(s) on the use of flashbacks and there were the few of us discussing them 2 episodes ago... so out of interest and because other ways of looking at the same thing are interesting:
@alex8825 @trina @shach @gemwendz @yyishere @kellibean @katakwasabi

I thought I'd post a different take on the frequent flashbacks. There are 2 articles on it. This is the shorter version or part 1 as she calls it : http://bitchesoverdramas.com/2019/01/16/memories-of-the-alhambra-on-flashbacks-pt-1/ There's more in "On Flashbacks and Hedges" in that blog's Recent Posts.

Another day, another mano's crazy obsession over Jin-woo. I'm still rewatching every episode of MoA. Bear with me beanies, I really don't have any other medium to express my fondness to opppaaars...

The more I see Hyun-bin pictures on the internet, the more I realize how gorgeous he is. I just found his picture during MoA first reading, dressed in only white shirt and he's still look ridiculously handsome.
I'm sorry Gong-yoo oppa, I always thought you're the oppa that ends all oppas. It's impossible there's someone out there that would look more attractive than you. But that ends today with Hyun-bin in white shirt.

Can I move on to the next oppa please? I dreamed about Jin-woo/Hyun-bin again last night. I'm not used to oppa-ing more than six weeks. It's getting annoying.

I even make conscious attempt not to stan him. But his continuously appearance on my dream (yes that dream when you're sleeping, not daydream) really annoys me. It would great if I could say I'm his fan and I follow his works. The thing is, it took me three days to finish Negotiator, I still can't finish Confidential Agreement and I can't pass more that 30 minutes and 2 episodes of Sam soon and Secret Garden respectively. Regardless whatever issues with MoA, Hyun-bin really killed his role as Jinwoo.

I know what you mean I only made it thru 1 Jekyll Hyde ep and 2 Worlds Within. Confidential Assignment is so full of swoony moments tho that I had to go back and rewatch even tho I fell asleep the first time... the moment when he is leaning out of the car shooting was worth it.
I'm hoping the stanning will run its course when some new drama comes along although when I tried revisiting kdrama boyfriends (rewatching Goblin for ex) it just wasnt the same...

I don't exactly understand why I can't finish Confidential Agreement. I like everyone in that movies, both the actors and their roles in that movie. North Korea is my drama catnip and like you said Hyun-bin looked all kind of hot on the car shooting scene. But maybe I'm so drawn to Jinwoo, I can hardly see Hyun-bin as someone else.

I can't wait this fangirling to wear off, I don't want to start stanning Hyun-bin on YouTube, soompi or worse all kpop and Netizenbuzz 😄

I am smitten once again by Yoon Kyun Sang (was smitten before during Rebel). Now binge-watching 3 Meals a Day Session 4 with YKS and his sons Koongie and Moongie. Why didn't I know he's on that programme?? It's nice to see his off screen personality in the show, it's very obvious he is a kind person. Humble and caring and all that. And a cats' slave LOL

Looking back on his filmography, I watched and cheered hard for Moohyul in Six Flying Dragons, but didn't watch watch Pinocchio and Doctors. Also, I watched Gapdong but was too focused on the story and main leads, especially Lee Joon was in it, that I missed YKS appearance completely. Didn't realize he was in that drama.

I also found his earlier acting gigs in The Time We Were Not in Love.. he was novice, stiff acting and awkward but GOD how gorgeous he's there.. so slim and soooo tall. Drop dead handsome killer look as in an idol.

How did he become so big now?? But I love his current build tho, cuddly bear, huggable, as well as manly and protecting. Anyway, that's what I'm into lately.

I asked for old J-Drama recommendations in early December. To the ones who gave me their favorites, I am thankful. I watched Orange Days and enjoyed it, even though Princess-Sama was hard to like. I am starting Love Revolution but to be honest it is not resonating with me. Tiger & Dragon, on the other hand, is a riot and even better on a rewatch.

I just wanted you to know I am digging into your recommendations!

OT Week 101! Catching up is hard to do. Still not caught up, but I am on the OT! Lots of real life stuff happening this week, but that’s not what anyone is interested in. You’re all interested in the kdama-life! So I had a wonderful trip to LA, and got to the BeautyTap store in Costa Mesa, CA. It’s adorable and so are the specialists there. Finally figured out how to use my rewards points (of which I had a ton) on the website with their help. Both kids and I got pictures on the selfie wall. It’s really cute with a wooden swing to sit on and a flower wall motif. I really wish I didn’t have to work and could just play in LA all day. And eat. We made it to most of what Beanies recommended as well! Komawo!

On the plane ride back, I caught two more episodes of My Ahjusshi and by episode 7 our hero is finally making waves, being as smart as I thought he should be as a structural engineer, analytically minded, and horribly patient. The hard-earned smiles from both Ji-an and Dong Hoon at the ending scene was so poignant. And then Kwang Il had to make my heart sink again with those angry, tear-filled puppy-dog eyes. What a broken person. Breaks my heart. Thank you to everyone who is joining my wall discussion of this!

Hubby wanted to see at least one episode of Memories of Alhambra so we did after skipping last week’s. We actually didn’t need last week’s episodes at all. I don’t really remember any of the episode we did watch either. Where did Min-joo go? What a disappointment. I bet the writer is disappointed too after reading her interview.

I’m still really enjoying Encounter though. Omigosh, I thought I had desensitized myself from PBG’s face, but then they went all earnest and had him damn-near propose, not once, BUT TWICE, close up. I just want to shake some sense into Seo-hyun. Or get her therapy. I know a good therapist. I agree with @lollypip, she’s lost her mind.

Okay, conversation time:

I’ve recently become low-key obsessed with Day6 and Park Jae (but it’s nothing like my Highlight obsession)

Me: Listen to this song, honey.

Daughter: What is it?

Me: Day6’s “Marathon” https://youtu.be/NMB8oLZ3xA8

Daughter: What’s this about being slow? Why would I want to be last?

Me: That’s exactly why I want you to listen to it.

Daughter: I don’t want to be slow, I’m going to be first in everything. This song is stupid, mom.

Me: *sigh* Maybe I should have shown her their Despacito cover first… https://youtu.be/RwuBJp1alMo

Son: Have you seen this one mom? https://youtu.be/XQv_kw5SxNA

Me: That’s Korean! Maybe there’s hope for you guys yet.

Moral of the Story: If at first you don’t succeed…

2nd moral: My son’s link is a song sung by G-Idle and it’s really catchy, it has 150+ million hits on the League of Legends YouTube page.

3rd moral: For those getting snow this weekend in the US, stay safe! To everyone else, have a great kdrama week!

Hola Beanies! Been awhile since I've visited OT. I haven't really watched dramas the latter half of 2018, but I'm back in full watching mode. I marathoned LAST EMPRESS last weekend and I'm obsessed. It's so cute watching Hyuk discovering positive human emotion though he's still a murderer. I am loving the show in all its makjang glory.

I also finished WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE SECRETARY KIM and it was cute, but kinda....lacking. I just expected so much more from it, but Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young were good so there's that.

Hello, everyone! Will be my first time to post in OT :D
So...I stopped watching kdramas for a while and ventured into other non-Korean series which I saw being dubbed in our local channel; I finished the Thai version of Fated to Love You and liked it despite the happily-rushed-ever-after-ending (I haven't watched the original and the Korean remake). But what I really wanted to talk about was the C-drama which replaced it. It's Love O2O...and my gahd, I super-duper sooo like it! Not just the romantic part, but also the way the friendships are played out, the clever way of playing out the characters' fantasy and reality...and even if I'm not a gamer I appreciate the game scenes, how they are juxtaposed with the characters' real/offline life. This is my first C-drama and I'm glad that I gave it a try, and now I'm wondering (actually more hoping) if there's a possibility to have a Korean remake of this? And if ever they do, who do you think would fit the characters of Xiao Nai and Wei Wei? :D

Welcome to the OT @folieadeux! We hope to see you here many times.

I too liked Love O2O and the game scape. If there ever were a Korean version, I'd like the leads to be a bit more accessible. Who they might be is tough to say. They'd have to be young if the setting is college. Maybe Jin Young and Kim Yoo Jung?

Welcome aboard @mechanicalartist and registered also.
(Registering makes reading comments easier for this ahjussi.)
Btw. If you read the recap comments for THIRTY BUT SEVENTEEN you will discover that Chan is now our beanie friend above @ally-le's adopted son. True!

Good to know I'm not the only newbie around here!

Chan deserved a happy ending of his own! My heart broke when he confessed! I'm happy to know he got adopted by @ally-le

Holy moly MOA Ep15 - I just need to comment before the recaps. Anyone saw it yet?
This is such an unexpected drama - i’ve Never seen a male lead so despondent, so beaten up and tortured all the way to the end. Jin woo just can’t catch a break.
This drama should be called “breaking Jin woo”
I’m sadistic before I love it 😆

@stardust I just watched MOA Ep15.
I'm a bit puzzled about the time the servers were up or down. The servers had to be up for Emma to be projected into the Church, but after that, they were brought down?

How did old man Cha know they were down?

I like the comeuppance Cha faced which was once again his own fault. He often put the blame on others to justify himself, but some of the big things that went wrong were a result of his decisions and blame throwing. This time the blame is fully levelled at himself since he did not heed Jin Woo's warning.

Prof cha controlled the servers being up- he basically wanted to murder Jin woo. As long as jin woo is dead he doesn’t need to admit to anything including the re-investigation which he smeared his daughter in law and Jin woo name in order to snatch his son’s asset. (He’s seriously beyond redemption)

I thought it was interesting that even though after he called the servers off (he thought Jin woo was dead already), HS still came on and went on to attack him. Which I think - is the underlying glitch - once you have “murdurous intent” eg Marco with see joo, see joo with Marco, Jin woo with HS -‘they all wanted to kill each other even though it was in the game” The game goes rouge (with or without the server) - it does seem that HS acts like some sort of conscience. And I kinda see why the writer says it’s all abt Jin woo needing to pay a mental debt to HS- he did wanted to kill HS if you recall their fight. Although to his benefit it was in the game and he felt it would have no consequence in reality.

@stardust81
I was wondering when the servers were brought down after Emma appeared. That part was not shown. Only the part where Cha asked for them to be brought up again so that the NPCs could kill Jin Woo. Then he asked for them to be shut down so that he could be - as he wrongly thought - safe.

Jin Woo is the bug in the program that is linked to NPC Hyung Seok. As long as he is 'alive', NPC HS will keep stalking him and his allies. The game is super scary if it can 'read' murderous intent. That means it can mind read.

Perhaps it was more on the level of having defeated/killed a real person using a virtual weapon, the glitch crops up to make the dead person an NPC to battle against forever.

If the program can read minds, no one will be safe! 😅

Which is better: Matrimonial Chaos or Saikou No Rikon?

Can you also recommend me a good jdorama? Something that will keep me watching. The last one I've watched is Todome No Kissu.

Hi!
It's probably a bit too late to put this on the open thread, but here I go. 😅

I'm going to the UK on Tuesday and I was wondering if you had any tips or ideas about places to visit or things to do.
I'll be also visiting London for two days. What would you recommend seeing or doing?
I'll be traveling with my aunt and her family, so I won't be at liberty to travel everywhere, and I'm a student, so I'm on budget. But share anything with me!

Thank you and have a great week!

Thanks for the tag @ally-le!

@estee, sounds like your itinerary is full, but if you're ever in town with a bit more time and want to meet beanies, there's a small gang that is always up for it!

I hopped over to your wall and see you might be going to Bath - highly recommend!! Lovely place, lovely people, free walking tours run by the city, Roman Baths, the Pulteney Bridge is my favourite (the tea shops on the bridge! are the best!), Jane Austen Museum if you're a fan, and a whole lot of other things. Have fun!!

I'll let you know when (and if) I come back to London. Hopefully I'll have more time next time.

I had no idea there was a Jane Austen Museum in Bath, wow! I am a fan, so I'll make sure to check it out. Thank you!

You're a student so I think you would appreciate a few suggestions that are either free or cheap.

I recommend the welcome collection, it's a unique museum and also they have tours! It's free. There's a Chinatown in london, there are some chinese restaurants to try out. Visit
The Chocolate Museum and learn about different types of chocolate, they offer a chocolate making workshop for cheap. Go check out Gods own junkyard, it's a place where there are neon lights all over the place, great place to take a picture to post on instagram. Sky Garden have gorgeous view of london, worth a visit and get a cup of coffee there. Kyoto Garden is more pretty during spring and summer, still I think it's worth a visit. Have fun in UK!

The Chocolate Museum sounds like heaven!
I won't get to check this all out, but I'm saving it for future reference.
I'll do my best to enjoy!

London is a city made for walking and there are dozens of walking tours - you can seriously just take a Tube, get off, walk for a while, see some sights and jump on another Tube.

If you're up for Culture then you could honestly spent both days in the British Museum and still not see everything. It's free and it's near a Tube stop. Just don't ask too many difficult questions about how they acquired the exhibits.

Seriously, though, if you've never been to London before and don't have much money then grab a map and walk. There are also several by-donation walking tours where you can pay what you want at the end. This is just one around the Westminster area

but there are more.

The walking tour sounds interesting. I wish I had the time for the British Museum, but unfortunately what started out as two days turned into just one.

Hopefully there will be a next time with more time for all the interesting things!

I don't know if you're interested in Sherlock but there is a Sherlock Museum in London. I think it was fairly cheap to visit. You have to see Buckingham Palace while you're there. Try to go during the changing of the guard. Have fun!

If you're interested in WWII history, you might enjoy the Winston Churchill War Rooms which was Churchill's headquarters during the war. It was really interesting. I don't remember the cost but my family wouldn't have done it if it was expensive.

Wow, that sounds great! I love history, so I'll try to fit it into my trip!

I do like Sherlock, but not enough to enjoy the museum. (Sorry, Sherlock.) I'm definitely going to see the Buckingham Palace.

Thank you! <3

Oh @ST have fun! It sounds as if your diary is pretty much full already. You're coming here just in time for some cold weather.

A lot of the London art galleries are free of charge. If you're around Trafalgar Square at any point, you can pop into the National Gallery for example to warm up and get your dose of culture.

I hope you'll have a great time!
