I'm making my life more complicated - combining few patterns to make some cute baby shoes and hey, one shoe is ready and it's so pretty!!! It took me two days to learn on my mistakes but it's worth it.

While sewing and feeding my brain with simple happiness while watching my tiny one throwing smiles at me I watched two last episodes of ALM and I'm loving it more and more. Like I posted on fan wall the writer has guts! I'm christian myself ( actually they don't give you choice when they babtise you at early age) but opposing to church because I don't like shallow things and at first I really disliked Monty python's humour and now I'm loving it. So maybe I will love this show until the end...

Your making shoes? That is so sweet. When your baby is old enough you should revisit all the dramas you watched together at this time.

I wanted to make a present and it will be easier from now on. With my first one I was doing crochet and gardening and with my second one I'm sewing. Later I won't have time for it so it has to be now.

Hi all:
Life is finally seeping into my body. Do not get that horrible flu/cold/whatever that is floating around. No cheek-kissing, no hand-shaking, no air-kissing. Keep safe.

Not much happening. Which is not a good thing. One of my WIPs is giving me a hard time, and yes...i did wait two months before i even started it although the editor who invited me to the anthology gave me tons of time. Am distant from the main character's heart. Which is annoying because this story is all about the heart. I'm apparently lacking the ability right now to commit heart and emotion to a story that requires emotional nakedness. Everytime i see a great actor or actress being brave, vulnerable, and super honest in some story, i shake my head at my wimpiness. So, between that and having to move from this house, well....Stress is my present enemy and constant companion.

Dramas:

WWW -- I'm so liking this. Especially the drama-within-the-drama, "What's Wrong with my sister-in-law?" Thank you, writer-nim for the meta. Thanks also for teaching us all about korean search engines and defamation.

Spring Night -- Let the guilt battle begin. At first i thought the main subtext of this story would be competitiveness but noooooo, it's power-through-guilting other folks.

Secretary's Secret-- Well, finally! Took a long while getting to the truth.

Arthdal -- omigosh, my sweetie Tagon has a tender loving --dare i day "needy"?-- side when he's with his beloved. Am hoping his personality isn't set in stone and that he doesn't go all evil on me.

Perfume -- Why am i hoping for her heroine to be stuck as fat and to lose the rest of her perfume? Because i get so tired of the fat women never getting love unless they're skinny. That coffee body swap story totally annoyed me and this better not disappoint e.

Abyss -- Love this drama. Sure it's ultra-convenient with its plotting and makes characters do stupid stuff but dang, it's addictive. Hoping to see Prosecutor Seo's soul, but that would mean he would have to die and get resurrected. I wouldn't put it past his step-sister. That woman is so emotional about her mother that she might do some weird stuff to wrestle the abyss away from Min...since Min doesn't look like he wants to raise up her mother. I' betting Prosecutor Seo's soul looks like a demented damaged evil child.

That's about it. Have a great weekend, all.

Regarding Arthdal, Tagon does seem to be the most interesting character, isn't he? I think there are secrets about him we have yet to find out. We'll see.

Yep, Tagon super-intrigues. And double yep, the secrets! Plus he's a stranger and our hero is more like family...one's little brother who needs taking care of until he grows up into his greatness.

It's great that you've managed to pack in so many shows. I hope the flu is behind you. Thanks for the reminder. I've been sleeping too late, too often, and can feel that the body's resistance to flu is somewhat less. I know I need to keep on pouring in the fluids and sleeping more to keep the flu at bay.

Have a great weekend too! 😃

I keep saying this, but the show got better. If they killed Oh Yeong-chul long ago, and started romance and team Se-yeon earlier, they would have more people watching/enjoying.

Required fields are marked *

I'm pretty glad that Oh Yeong-chul is dead. Hopefully for good. Hopefully. The romance is well-timed, i think. After all, these two have been with each other for ages. I think the idea is very creative, and making so many folks use the abyss is showing me that the writer has control of the many plot threads and will tie them all up. That's what i like about this. The plot threads aren't typically kdrama where only emotional changes happen (or not.) I've seen so many dramas where there are maybe six or seven significant plot changes then the end and during the entire story we deal with characters ruminating or we deal with filler where we get a lot of repetition that goes nowhere. Abyss has a lot of story to cover with lots of twists and turns. There isn't a lot of back and forthing. Of course they should slow down a bit sometimes but i do like that there is more story.

I have hopes that Perfume is moving towards Jae Hee being her normal self at the end. Come on show! Pull through!

And have a great weekend too! :)

I have a suggestion: place a limit of 5 posts max/hour for each Beanie.

Because while we all have the right the pour love for our stans, seeing 33 posts on the same celebrity over 2 posts (that's 40 posts in total) is annoying. (Especially when it is not related to dramas! But I digress.)

Thoughts?

It's a public space so a little bit difficult to make everyone happy. I stan no one, but sometimes when I'm obsessed about a drama, I want to speak about it on WhatsApp or social media, but then my boss and professional contact will see and I will look silly. So I kinda understand why beanies share their love for celebrities/stans on DB.

I understand what you are saying but I figured it's not too much trouble for me to quick scroll down two pages and let the beanie show his/her love for that celebrity or kpop group.

I'm ok with showing celebrity love, I might even not notice they are all from the same beanie. Two pages of frame by frame screen captures is much harder to skip, especially if you are trying to avoid spoilers.

When you watch several dramas and there are recaps, you want to comment, share your opinion, answer to somebody, etc. It would be sad if we have to restrain ourself.

I scrolled for three pages, saw the same celeb and another time saw several pages of screencaps for the same drama. All this from the same person. It gets annoying. If it were just happening occasionally it wouldn't be a big deal but lately it happens at least twice a week. I wouldn't want to place a limit but suggest we be a little considerate of other beanies.

For me, with the robocalls every day and spam everywhere else it used to be nice to come here where it didn't happen. It is frustrating but limiting posts isn't the right way to handle it.

Hi Everyone! ..... I hope you are all doing well today.

Perfume - It's always funny watching Shin Sung-rok being super fussy. What's not so fun is this show's editing ..... it suddenly jumps to a different scene and I don't know why or how it got there. And we still need more info on that magic perfume.

The Secret Life of My Secretary - Decided to give this a try and watched the first episodes. Still not sure if I'll be watching this one consistently, but I think I'll be checking in on it now and then.

My Absolute Boyfriend - Um, no. I'll be skipping this one.

Nokdu Flower - Great show that I know won't have a happy ending (or at least, it will be very difficult to have one). Love the scenes with Ja-in and Deok-ki. The only thing is, I'm worried about something bad happening to Deok-ki. It's like a concern that's on the backburner ..... but it's there.

Arthdal Chronicles - So, it turns out this is the show I struggle with to get through the episodes. I'm actually a little surprised by this, but there you have it. I am quite curious, though, about Tagon's relationship with his father. The father wants his son dead but I think that feeling may go both ways.

Angel's Last Mission - So I am finding this one very, very interesting even though I think L's overacting most of the time. On the other hand, Shin Hye-sun is just fantastic.

Search Query: WWW: Intended to just check out the first episode, but I think I'll be watching the rest of the show. Quite a trio of interesting, female characters.

That's all for now. Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

I just realize I am watching a Thai, japanese, chinese, and Korean drama each. At different rates but it is fun.

I just started, one ep in, a c drama. It is called My Youth. The characters and tropes are very familiar but it feels zippy and fun. Just 30 min ep and some second hand embarrassment (which I have to pause and watch through my fingers) but it made me laugh too.
I think it is taking place in the 90s. She tried to confess with a tape cassette and she is into a singer called Pu Shu. But I'm not sure I dont have @kimbapnoona to pause and explain references, lol.
But I think it will span through college. I hope it stays as fun as this one ep. It will be nice companion when taking refuge from the heat.

Happy OT Everyone!
I'm marathoning a few episodes of a few shows to catch up after much busy -ness.

Just caught up with Secretary's Secret - what fun this show is. I've been more entertained by it in terms of it's hilarity and the many, oh so many, great couple being together scenes. I'm glad I decided to get into this show.

I'm scratching my head over Absolute Boyfriend. I applauded like crazy when Da Da calmly and deliberately rejected boyfriend. It was even great when she tells Nam Bo Won that what happens to robot has nothing to do with her. And then in about the next scene, although she never showed much in the way of caring for robot in a romantic way, she suddenly is sincerely telling robot that she likes him. Something is off here!

Angel Mission is still going strong. The twists in the ballet corps and foundation were not boring or a waste of time. They show why Yeon Seo should be the boss and how well she learns from Dan. The revelation of Dan's past is not too much of a surprise, but it's good to get the flashbacks more or less in the right sequence.

No time yet to continue One Spring Night or The Wind Blows

Cdramas ... I sort of started The Brightest Star in the Sky, but I'm not 'serious' about it yet. It's a toss up whether I'll continue with it or not. I do like the actress, Janice Wu here, as a spunky girl who can do tech stuff which is usually associated with guys.

My True Friend has possibilities although it's the same bicker and fight between the OTP who'll finally warm up towards each other. I'm again not sure I want to commit to 48 episodes.

Re Every Night 2. I do not like Dylan Wang at all and from the pics I've seen I can't imagine he'll be anything as good as Chen Feiyu. However, I'll still watch the 1st episode and then probably drop it since I'm going in with a pre-prejudice.

"frail sensitive soul..." oh, yeah. That must be why I like Zhu Yilong too.
Dylan Wang might be tall but he seems so much smaller and less imposing than Arthur Chen. We'll just have to see whether or not he can pull it off. It's awfully difficult to follow someone as popular as Arthur Chen was.

I feel you, Chen Feiyu really brought life into Ningque. But if he's the only one being replaced, then maybe the show will still have that liveliness

"Held in the Lonely Room" airing any time soon might be quite iffy. Chinese censors/regulators are holding up many "historical" or period dramas with heavy political content, concerned that such dramas might be contain metaphors reflecting the current government.

The Fated General was as highly anticipated as Novoland: Eagle Flag. The Fate General contains historical material that regulators now discourage for TV dramas. Novoland, pure fiction, was suddenly pulled 1/2 hour before scheduled premier, without new airing date.

Ever Night 2's fate will depend on how the script treat political and religious content.

The regulators don't mind supernatural as long as it's not emphasizing Chinese mythology, any major religion or superstitions (like saying ghosts do exist). I think of all the recent Novoland dramas, very fantasy-looking and simplistic politics The Castle in the Sky would still pass the censors with little or no trouble.

I think I'll soldier on with Absolute Boyfriend because I want to believe that Da Da has a better head on her shoulders than being such a twit, and that she's trying to save the robot to get him back to Nam Bo Won and away from Diana.

She knew that in order to turn him away from Diana, she had to kiss him, but it seems that he 'remembered' due to the rain, so her kiss was superfluous, but maybe she was being extra thorough and it was good to get him reset, just in case!!! LOL.

As for Angel's Mission it's going so good. I love the symbols in the show, like the rain. But I'll post them later either here or in the recap thread.

I'm not sure if Da Da's kissing Young Gu was to save him from Diana.

I can understand how a robot especially one like Young Gu provides emotional support for Da Da during this difficult period. I can even see how she develops feelings towards Young Gu. It's part of being human(on the part of Da Da). However, for her good, I hope she snaps out of it.

Sounds like we like the same C-dramas. But I've not heard of Dark Lord. Have you watched The Legends with Xu Kai and Bai Lu? I love it! It doesn't take itself too seriously (not as campy as Oriental Odyssey, one of my favorites) but still a little tongue-in-cheek when she keeps trying to kill him over a misunderstanding. And they are so good together. I actually watched most of it raw and now that Viki has subtitles I didn't realize some of the humorous lines she gives, while he is all serious. Some fans misunderstood the ending, but I have a great resource that explained exactly what everything meant (even the butterflies) and it's a good ending.
I tried to watch Listening Snow Tower but right now it takes itself too seriously and just doesn't compare with The Legends. I'll try it once I'm done with Legends.

Absolute Boyfriend: The end of ep 20 with the cheesy romantic music that gives the end game away and her kissing the robot - I was so disgusted that's it for that drama. The only ending I'd like now is that she dies and they make a robot in her likeness for the male robot. Call me disgusted with the whole thing. This writer is just jerking us around.

I felt the same about Absolute Boyfriend. Yes, MWJ deserves to be dumped, at least a few more times. Young Goo must be saved from Crazy Diana. But wtf was DAT? What human in her right mind will convince herself she fell in love with a robot? And I thought Diana was crazy...

I was all for Da Da dumping Wang Joon because they had serious issues and he knows he deserves it. I actually applauded Da Da for her guts.

But I was quite aghast that she suddenly decided her true love is Young Gu. I suppose this is what robot romance drama demands - to believe that a robot can love and be loved.

This writer! One minute I sympathize with Sang Joon and the next minute want to strangle him. Even though he has possibilities, his answers and views still belie a self interest and self absorption. If this were a Chinese drama, he'd come to realize being an "ordinary" person is much better if you want to find true love.

0

You know I mis-typed, right? Wang Joon, sheesh.

0

@linda-palapala

I find Wang Joon quite real. I was shocked but could see why he did want to break up and why he pretended he never did.

I guess that's how flawed humans are. Wang Joon loves Da Da but he can still be selfish and self-absorbed at the same time.

3

@linda-palapala @outofthisworld

I was quite happy with Wang Joon's reaction to the break up. He manned up and admitted Dada's observations were true and didn't get unneccessarily spiteful like some drama breakups tend to become. I actually thought Dada was crying because she felt her heartbreak has sought justice with his acknowledgement. Next thing you know she runs to confess her love to a robot.🤦🏻‍♀️

3

Is that where this is going? I was saving up episodes to binge this weekend but now I want to drop it.

I'm not in this for the robot to get the girl. That is the very reason I didn't watch Are You a Robot. Dating a robot is preposterous. You guys are right, what would people think? Even if you didn't tell them he was a robot it would become obvious when he didn't age. He's either a robot or a vampire. lol.

1

This is the issue I had with the J-drama version. The romance was ambivalent enough that it had me rooting for the flawed-but-utterly-real human love interest right into the finale, and - yeah. It's a dated concept, and the poorly written source manga isn't gelling well with the more modern self-aware directing, resulting in tonal whiplash.

0

@thatstp We won't be sure until the final minute who actually "gets" the girl, or perhaps who gets the guy. You'll know whether to binge it or not then!
What I've started doing is watching the last minute of the week and the preview.

1

I'm surprised by how taken aback most people are about human-robot romance with the comments on MAB and Are You Human Too. It's not like it's a new concept (just new to k-drama). Robin Williams portrayed a robot who fell in love with a woman who he served as a robo-maid in Bicentennial Man way back in 1999. There's been a ton of movies that explored themes of what makes a human human, can a robot develop feelings (whether romantic or not) and so on in movies/tv shows like Ex-Machine, Her, A.I., Westworld... Each reaching different conclusions.

I haven't watched My Absolute Boyfriend yet (I've watched a few episodes of the original a while back) but my problem with K-dramas (and Asian dramas in general) about human-robot romance is that it is an added element or gimmick to spice up an old story. It doesn't really explore the issue in terms of ethics, social norms... AYHT explored it a bit but it felt simplistic and on the surface level. It was mostly about office politics.

The existence of robots is an inevitability. So, while it is disturbing to think of human-robot romance as something that can happen in real life, it is important to explore themes like what does it mean to be "human," can a robot develop real emotions or is it just developed to simulate what looks like real emotions, how does that play into or affect people who are vulnerable, lonely... Essentially, I would love to see a k-drama dig really deep and explore these issues rather than just create fluff that barely scratches below the surface,

3

Here's an interesting article about the possibility of human-robot love. https://www.zdnet.com/article/robot-love-why-romance-not-just-sex-with-machines-is-a-foregone-conclusion/

0

I meant to include that in my comment, but you said it well. I tried to think if it was me and I couldn't find happiness with a real man, just how long would I be satisfied with a robot? And what about when friends find out you live with a robot because he's so perfect? Would they think you're absolutely nuts? Would they be jealous because their love interest wasn't perfect? Are these the questions we're supposed to ask ourselves with this drama?
I was gobsmacked to read a reply on another site from a fangirl claiming how fantastic the robot was and how much she loved him and wished she could have a boyfriend like that. Oh, really??

When I read comments on how lovable Young Gu is, I don't take it that the fan is delusional about robot love.

Instead of Yeo Jin Goo, have a machine looking robot be Young Gu and I'm sure no one will be rooting for lovebot.

Most, if not all fans rooting for Young Gu are actually rooting for Yeo Jin Goo to get the girl. A few of course may do so because they hate the human bf, Wang Joon so much that they think Da Da is better off with a machine than a jerk.

2

@outofthisworld ... " Instead of Yeo Jin Goo, have a machine looking robot be Young Gu and I'm sure no one will be rooting for lovebot. .."
You're totally right on. I forget that most fans find Yeo Jin Goo totally attractive. His looks don't appeal to me at all (gasp).

2

@linda-palapala

Appeal is always subjective and thank goodness it is.
I find Jin Goo good looking, he looks even more suave in ep 19-20 but I don't see any chemistry between him and Da Da so it's easy for me to not get swayed.

I find Wang Joon and Da Da pairing more appealing. However, if the roles were switched and Hong Jong Hyun plays the robot, I won't root for him and Da Da either. I'm just not one for robot romance, no matter who the actor is.

3

lol, I thought about "if it were me" too. Didn't care much about how friends and family would react. I was thinking more about the icky intimacy. Does that kiss smell and feel like silicon? Is Young Gu also 98.6°F (37°C)? Is he exothermic? What happens if he malfunctions when we get intimate? Will it burn? If another woman kisses and resets him, do I have to go through this crazy confession again? Does his hair grow? Does he bathe?!🤣

3

@outofthisworld
Casting Jin Goo definitely helped me accept the robot. But Dada having him as a friend or loving him like a pet is as far I can go.

2

I kind of like Diana, she's so over-the-top.

I would have liked Diana too, the way I like Veronica Park in Secretary's Secret except that she's malicious, vindictive and even likely to be sadistic. Her only saving grace is that she's also probably mentally ill. If not for that and possibly her 'sad' backstory, she would be totally unsympathetic a character.

I do, however, like the way the character is played.

@kimbapnoona Thanks, yes I've watched and re-watched most of Le Coup de Foudre. Love that show for being simple and for the 'real' relationships and foibles. Of course it doesn't hurt that male lead remains single-mindedly faithful and that OTP make a wacky married couple together! 😉

@linda-palapala I started The Wind Blows and got bogged down with other more 'fun' dramas and let it sit unwatched for a couple of weeks. I may pick it up again.

It was not easy to watch the husband being such a jerk and not telling his wife why he was so negative about having a baby, etc. I know from the synopsis what is going to happen, it's only a case of do I want to know how they get there and how it will really end.

I believe the leads will pull off all the sombre and warm feels, so if you're in for a show that's not light, not fluffy but not overly melo either, you may like this one.

Hi everyone, happy Friday!
So this month has been challenging for me. Do many dramas to pick from and so little time to watch them all. However, I am trying to watch as many as I can. ARTHDAL has picked my interest the most and its making the wait so unbearable. And then there's ANGEL'S MISSION, I was hesitant when I tried this show but the moment I watched the first ep, I was a goner and now the wait is killing me a week feels like forever

I'm gonna drop this here for feedback, ideas and advice! Le Familia Dramabeans, Help me!!!!
So, I'm in Tokyo right now and planning a small, quick trip to Seoul. Wish I could do more, but I don't have more than three days max free at any point before I have to head back home in September. The likeliest dates are end-July, and early to mid-August.
What are the dos and dont's? I'll be honest - my main goal is shopping (MAKEUP! SKINCARE!) but I wanna make the most of my time. Of course, I'd wanna do it on the best budget - not so expensive I run out of money the same day. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start, which places would be good etc etc. Is there anyone here familiar with Seoul shopping places? Is there any beanie in Seoul who could hang out with me? Any advice, any help? PLEASE?!

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a makeup place in Seoul. You will probably want to go to Lotte World. It is a huge mall as well as the tallest building where you can pay to have a 360 view of Seoul. I am not much of a shopper, but I really liked going down the street in Insadong. There are a number of chain makeup places. It is a touristy spot, but I enjoy it a lot. My favorite is the traditional market Namdaemun, which has a ton of street food and sells absolutely everything you ever thought you might needs and a few hundred other things. Good Luck!

+1 Best thing is they are easy to get to by subway. I like Namdaemun where I buy accessories and gift items (I got them cheaper compared to Insadong or Dongdaemun/food is great in Dongdaemun tho). And I like to spend time in Lotte Word (I was amazed wi-fi worked in the under ground outside of dept.store). And do you know if you go outside to the road, there is also nice walking trail around the river? by amusement park?

If you want to shop on a budget, I would suggest avoiding Myeongdong. Most of brands there only sell items in bulk, so if you wanted a face mask you might be stuck buying a pack of 20. Or buying a kit of makeup rather than one lip tint. I would still recommend checking out Myeongdong for the experience (the Innisfree cafe is so cute and the street food is delicious).

I enjoyed shopping in Gangnam Station (both the actual subway station and the general area above ground) and Hongdae the most. Both areas also have lots of cafes and restaurants, so it is good for more than just shopping!

No one really thought that the criminal scandals would jump from individual artists to management in such a sudden and shocking manner.

Ever since the Burning Sun/Suengri/Whatever-that-other-guy's-name-is scandal dropped, I've been waiting for more stuff to go down. Korean culture has been subtly morphing and changing the last 5 or so years, particularly with younger Koreans who are becoming much more open and defiant against corruption and sexist practices and certain aspects of Korean society, etc. I think there's a very real possibility of us seeing more scandals pop up in other realms of Korean life such as the police force, the Korean government, the educational system, etc.

I’m hoping to see more corruption gets exposed. Unfortunately I feel only the celebrity related ones will be uncovered.

In Korea, the art (and need) of keeping a polished image has all the agencies desperate to cover everything up. Added the deep rooted police corruption makes it a perfect supply and demand economy. I’m sure most agencies pay police off under the table. However it’s one thing to keep recreational drug use under wraps. It’s absolutely unacceptable for the rape and drugging of innocents to escape prosecution.

It’s no wonder Kdrama and kmovies rarely have heroic detective protagonists. Even if they do, the detective acts thuggish. The police force is synonymous to organized criminals.

Required fields are marked *

From my own experience living in Korea, the police force is pretty inept and useless most of the time. Crime is so incredibly low that there's not a lot for most police officers to do, and they tended to not believe you if you reported a serious crime anyway. Not long before I moved there, there was a really horrific murder that the police possibly could have prevented but didn't because of how they responded to the situation. A woman called them one night and said a strange man was in her apartment threatening to kill her. The police laughed and said she was probably just having a fight with her husband and he hit her, so they didn't send anyone out to check. Some time later, I don't know how long, her body was discovered in her apartment cut up into pieces. Very disturbing situation, and they might have been able to save her life, but 1) they didn't believe something like that could happen so they ignored it and 2) they thought it was normal for your spouse to abuse you, so they treated it like a joke.

I feel like there's actually a very real chance for things to really get blown wide open in Korea though, simply based on the fact that younger Koreans are eschewing the old attitudes of saving face and respecting your elders/superiors even when they're corrupt. They're not sitting around silently anymore. They're making their feelings and opinions more known, and I think that is having a strong impact on Korean culture.

Yes, I heard the crime rate is low, but it’s because crime isn’t always reported.

I had a bad experience once in Seoul when a taxi ahjusshi wanted to rip me off and when I didn’t pay him the amount he wanted, he threw his hand up attempted to hit me. Luckily I dodged it quicker than he can swing his arm. And ran into the hotel lobby. I could tell he’s used to abusing women.

It will take some time to kill old habits, but I do see light penetrating the clouds. Like the police that filed a complaint about his superiors pressuring him to close the BS case. It may not be taken seriously but at least not everyone is complicit.

2

@geliguolu I have to disagree that the crime rate is low because crime isn't reported. It's low because certain kinds of crime just are not common in Korea. There is, for sure, truth to it that some types of crimes aren't being reported, namely spousal and parental abuse, because there's long been societal acceptance of such things, so I can agree with you there. But theft, violent crime such as murder, stuff like that is just unusual there. You can literally leave an open laptop sitting out at a café while you use the restroom and no one will touch it. Certain types of crime have just historically been very rare.

I rode in taxi's pretty often myself while I was there, because I lived in a town where the bus stopped running at 10 pm every night, but all my friends were in a town 30 minutes away, so every time we stayed out late, I had to take a taxi home. I had two bad experiences with taxi drivers, one that was quite scary and one where the driver tried to rip me off as well, but otherwise, I never had any problems. The behavior from that particular taxi driver was definitely not normal, in my opinion.

I have a lot of hope for the future of Korea. It feels like things are really changing in the culture in a noticeable and meaningful way. At least in terms of response and action towards corruption.

1

@ohsoenthusiastic Oh, I didn’t mean that taxis aren’t safe, I ride it all the time there. But the domestic abuse reflex is so ingrained in some men that they don’t even think twice that he was about to assault a tourist.

1

@geliguolu Ah, yes. I would say that's very true of many men in the older Korean generation. I do think it's changing though, at least with younger Koreans. I don't get the feeling that they're so willing to put up with abuse in their relationships.

Good morning Beanies! I'm so happy it's almost the weekend. I have been getting little sleep this week which has been my fault. Stayed up until 2am one morning finishing off Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Mass (which was brilliant btw). And other nights I stayed up pretty late watching shows or playing video games. Lots of sleep here I come!

Beauty Inside 8/10 I really enjoyed this sweet drama. The romance between the 2 leads was excellent. They had such good chemistry with each other, which isn't surprising because Seo Hyun-Jin tends to have great chemistry with most of her co-actors. But I love both her and Lee Min-Ki and both the characters they played (they had great kiss scenes!). I even thoroughly enjoyed the secondary leads and the romance that bloomed between them. I loved the gender reversal scene when Kang Sa-Ra promises to take care of Ryu Eun-Ho to his parents. The only thing that put a damper on this drama was the noble idiot episode. I HATE HATE HATE noble idiots. I will take pretty much every trope over that one. it makes me rage and hate the noble idiot character even if I was loving them before. So that sadly put a damper on this otherwise lovely drama. But besides that I would definitely suggest this to others.

General and I 8/10 I'm quite enjoying this cdrama. I really like Chu Beijie's character and his unparalleled love for Bai Pingting. I like how intelligent both he and Bai Pingting are. She is an equal match for him (as shown when they went against each other as generals of opposing armies). And we even got some good kisses and I'm only 15 ep into the drama! There are a good amount of cdramas that will go a whole drama without a single kiss, so I am of course thrilled about this (I love kisses 😝)

I'm heading to my Mom's this weekend to continue Her Private Life which I'm enjoying so far. After we finish that we will start Absolute Boyfriend. I also just started watching My Fellow Citizens (I've only seen 1 ep so far) but seems like it will be fun watch. I am already loving Mi Young.

Watching kdrama has always been about having a certain ability to suspend disbelief but this week has been extremely trying.

Tell me beanies, which one of these scenarios is the least likely:

1) Robots have emotions which can be proven by them actually wanting to be loved
2) Angels live on earth but when they fall in love with a human, they turn to dust
3) Guy is concerned that his girlfriend is cheating on him, but now that he knows the guy in her flat was an extremely hot, cute, nice, intelligent guy (did I mention hot? especially in that green top), he's fine with it because the guy's got a kid so she definitely won't sleep with him.

I think I can believe 1 and 2 before I can believe 3.

#3 is definitely the most unbelievable. I’m willing to suspend my logic for all sorts of scenarios, but having a child does not make a person a neutered being that is without sex appeal. On the contrary, seeing someone parent can be extremely attractive especially if that green top is as nice as Cloggie says.

Required fields are marked *

HAHAHAHA what a way to describe it. To be honest, I don't find #3 unbelievable if we're talking real feelings, not just in the moment lust. It's how people here think anyway. But FRANKLY I don't understand what the problem is anyway, since the hot guy was there with the girlfriend with 2 other people.

The show has been the opposite of pretty noona in some ways so far - we've had a ton of angst, but we've also got two adults who are willing to talk to each other about things (I think). More or less, I really like the show. I've already stuck with it longer than with Pretty Noona, and I have hope it won't be derailed by the sudden appearance of Eun-u's mum or some such plot.

3

I love it too @greenfields. I have the added benefit of not having watched Pretty Noona.

The thing is: the bf was talking about 'cheating' not about finding herself a new life-long partner - even though she clearly is, and it was that it was Ji-ho that set his heart at ease, not that the sister was there too.

I find it extra hard because around here the cute kid would probably have made him even more attractive especially without an ex hanging around. Single guy spending time with his kid shows a willingness to commit to parenthood. It would be a very busy pharmacy...

I have to keep reminding myself that it's culturally very different.

3

We also haven't had any kisses so far. =.= This is what I find truly unbelievable. I mean they're being all bold and professing their undying love for one another, but they haven't even kissed? I mean neither of them is of the LGBTQIA orientations. What if they turn out to be sexually incompatible later on. =.=

1

I was so shocked when they didn't kiss in the park in ep 8! Seriously people, what's wrong with you?

3

@cloggie - yeah, if it shearing you're right. That was a stupid thing to say.

On single parents, I assume the thinking in SK is the same as here in India, and went with that. I agree it's nonsense.

1

What is shearing? I meant cheating.

Ikr. At least in episode 8? 🤦 Kdramas

2

(Stupid things for the ex to say, not me)

1

I knew what you meant, Greens

2

At least there was a kiss in the preview @greenfields, so that almost counts.

2

@greenfields, sexual compatibility is the very reason why I was so happy they've already slept together in WWW.

I'm always dumbfounded by the logic of being a single parent or an orphan (in K-dramas) is counted against you. Like, seriously? It's not my fault I'm an orphan. That's not a choice one makes. I can see how divorcing a cheating husband is looked down upon in a patriarchal society but what if your spouse died or the father runs off? These are not things you have a say in. Why are the looked down upon? Ugh, humans make me sick.

1

For Ki Seok, it's not about sex appeal but the fact that "single parent" = worst thing to date in Korea society. Koreans have a lot of prejudice against all that is not the perfect family = 2 parents, child/ren.

@cloggie He's all of that and he shows and expresses his emotions. He doesn't feel less viril to do it. It's so rare in Kdramas. We are used to the cold and emotionless hero.

Happy weekend everyone!

Perfume is turning out to be more than whatever I expected. Then again my expectation was super low and I expected to dislike it. Hah!

I'm bracing myself. This drama can go all sorts of ways. For now it is positively moving in the direction that Jae Hee will accept her original self as she learns to gain more confidence and life is worthy to live despite it not being as planned.

I want Jae Hee to be happy!!! Come on show you can do it! Let Jae Hee find happiness in the end as her 40 yo self..it doesn't make sense if she stays as 20 yo Jae Hee. (Not that a magical perfume makes any sense to begin with 😅)

The cinematography and music selection for perfume is so fantasylike and dreamlike. I'm kinda digging it. The colours are beautiful. The Disney tunes reminds me of my Disney cartoons watching days. Heh. It feels nostalgic.

TGIF! Hope everybody had good week! With so many romcom(and the like) in currently airing shows, we have a few attractive guys(your pick?) -but I was surprised: According to the data published by GoodData Corp. the one who got highest rank on topic matter/ issue-wise among drama casts during 1st week of June was Jung Hae-in(One Spring Night). Han Ji-min(One Spring Night) and Song Joong-gi(Arthdal Chronicles) took the next spots. As for drama, Top three were Arthdal Chronicles, One Spring Night, WWWW in order. I didn't expect One Spring Night would pull such attention considering lukewarm reaction in DB.
Anyway One more cast I want to check the interview from Jo Jang-poong is Park Se-young who played the cool cop wife of Jo Jang-poong(Kim Dong-wook). In last OT, Kim Kyung-nam's profile stated his debut drama was Faith(2012), but I couldn't find which role he played. However it reminded me of my favorite couple in the show - King Gongmin(Ryu Deok-hwan) and Princess NoGook(Park Se-young). It was also drama Park received the acting award for her performance. It was interesting Ryu Deok-hwan was also in Jo Jang-poong.(Too bad they didn't have a scene together)

Per wiki and namuwiki, Park Se-young(31) studied theater in college. She debuted with the drama Inspector Park Mun-su in 2002 when she was a child, but she didn't continue acting to concentrate on her studies. Park returned to acting with the drama "If Tomorrow Comes" in 2011 and "Faith" in 2012. In addition to dramas, Park also did a few films including Sincerity Moves Heaven (2013) and Glorious Day (2014), and The Cat Funeral (2015). Recently she appeared in dramas Whisper and Money Flower (2017) and took a year break before doing Jo Jang-poong. Park will return with the new drama Loyal Army in September (a drama commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the 3.1 Movement and Provisional Government- like Different Dreams?). Park also did a few varieties including We got married(2014-her partner was Woo young from 2PM), Law of Jungle(2016), and Knowing Brothers(2018). She was also designated as one of the MCs on Music Bank(2013). Park received the first acting award for Faith (2012), and her latest acting award was for SBS's Whisper in 2017. In 2015, Park had a contract dispute for 6 months and signed with new agency when it ended, and did the drama My Daughter, Geum Sa-wol, for which she won an acting award (She got the image of the villain after this role). In 2018, Park signed with new agency CL& Company.

[N interview, 2019.05.31; Starnews, 2019.06.08] Actress Park Se-young met with viewers in a more friendly and fresh way through the drama 'Special Labor Supervisor Jo Jang-poong'. It was a challenge for Park to play Joo Mi-ran, a 10th year detective, a working mom who divorced the lead Jo Jin-gap (Kim Dong-wook) and raised her daughter alone. ...no make-up, not like a sophisticated urban image she had in My Daughter, Geum Sa-wol, Whisper, and Money Flower.

Q: How do you feel now that Jo Jang-poong is ended?
Park: It was nice to do another MBC drama after last year's Money Flower, and I stared fresh because it was project with different color. I had expectations because it was a work I did after a year break, but I filmed enjoying in earnest. It was a drama I prepared from January this year, but the time seems to have passed quickly. The work itself was enjoyable and fun from the beginning to the end, and the ending was good and satisfying. I feel sorry it ended but I am happy because it ended very nicely.

Q: The events in the drama were realistic, but they had fantasy-like ending.
Park: I was satisfied as an actress. It was a fantasy drama, and it was also a refreshing drama that satisfied vicariously when people felt difficulty in reality. It really felt like a dream at the end on the marriage scene between Chun Deok-gu (Kim Kyung-nam) and Gon Mal-sook (Seol In-ah). It felt like an epilogue cookie video after a movie ended. It truly warmed my heart.

Q: The reunion of Joo Mi-ran and Jo Jin-gap was also implied.
Park: I knew there would be a positive ending, but I wondered how it would be wrapped up. I was curious if it would have an open ending, or the couple would remain as friends or have reunion, but from some point Mi-ran and Jin-gap became one. They became a team naturally, and it seemed to be continued to a natural reunion. Mi-ran and Jin-gap boldly kissed in the space where everyone watched. The reason they looked so natural was because they already married 15 years ago and had children.

Q: Joo Mi-ran seem to be different from the roles you have played.
Park: I always had a thirst for playing a character who has a sense of life and a sense of reality rather than a character in a gorgeous setting. I wanted to show "Oh she has that side too", rather than only images I do well. Joo Mi-ran had refreshing side in the sense that she carried her belief into the actual action. Playing this character had a positive influence on me because it resembled the direction I pursue.

Q: Mi-ran approached her man first, like kissing at the time of reunion, and before starting date.
Park: It means that Jin-gap was attractive and there was such a great love between them. Mi-ran seems to be an aggressive woman.

Q: Does Mi-ran have any resemblance to Park Se-young?
Park: There are many similarities and many others- we seem to be similar in that we are realistic. I thought being realist, the principle-ist, and idealist was similar because we have to live the reality given to us. Joo Mi-ran is a person who can go forward progressively, putting things into action, not stopping at speech and thought. It is also an image a person Park Se-young wants to have, and a figure of a mature person who has advanced further. The difference is that I am not married, and do not have children, etc. (laughs)

Q: How was the husband Jo Jin-gap from Joo Mi-ran's point of view?
Park: When I looked at him, I could understand Joo Mi-ran. Jo Jin-gap is very cool, and has a humane charm, and a beautiful man who loves world and people, wanting the righteous world with idealism. There is a charm that cannot be missed, but when his wife sees it, he lacks flexibility. Because he is rigid, you get so frustrated (Laughs) So it seems that if Park Se-young is to meet a person like Jo Jin-gap, she would probably behave similar to Joo Mi-ran. However, I think that she inevitably loves him and be on the same side with him to the end.

Q: How was acting breath with Kim Dong-wook and other actors.
park: Sunbae-nim and I am very shy. We started out awkwardly, but as shooting continues, it naturally improved -we got close and became very comfortable. Not only me and sunbae-nim, but all the actors felt like college classmates, not just co-workers. The atmosphere of the filming set was friendly like a university club. There was so much fun on the set.

Q: Who led such atmosphere the most?
Park: Kim Dong-wook sunbae did. Kim Dong-wook sunbae appeared 98% in our drama. There was no scene he didn't appear (laugh). Except him, I only saw actors at reading or dinner time, in which at the center Kim Dong-wook sunbae opened his heart first, and played big brother role well, so everybody became close. There is a time when actor becomes the character as he works on a project, and I felt sunbae was becoming real Jo Jin-gap. He took care of everyone. With him, there was such feeling like 'Jo Jin-gap ssam/teacher'.

Q: How was Kim Dong-wook as an actor?
Park: I think that he helped me to concentrate so that I could devote to my role. Sunbae has unique comfortness you feel when you watch him on TV. Since he led, I didn't get nervous when we acted together. He was like Jo Jin-gap- easy-going and generous.

Q: Is there a part you especially made efforts for the chemistry with Kim Dong-wook?
Park: I kept thinking what kind of relationship of the couple who married for 10 years would be like. I also thought of couples who have Long-distance relationship, couples who reunited, and couples who could always go back to the time they loved each other very much.

Q: It seems to be the first time you played the role of a mother with a child.
Park: For a mother role, I acted giving a birth to a child, or appeared with a child at the ending. This was the first time I played a mother role in earnest. I was concerned about what kind of impact this challenge would have. Challenges are a challenge, but I wondered if viewers could even accept it. I was worried if I'm the only one who liked it, or people wouldn't accept even if I said "I am ajumma". Thankfully I was able to act comfortably because people seemed to watch me favorably.

Q: How did you try to act a mother role?
Park: I have two sisters. Both are mothers with two children so I had indirect experience and studied. They say no matter how much indirect experience you have, you don't know unless you actually become a parent, and yes, it was harder than I thought. It was a big challenge for sure. I tried to act happily hoping for favorable viewers' reaction, rather than thinking "I should be good enough until everyone is satisfied". I met Na-yoon who played my daughter for the second time in drama. I also met Kim Hong-pa sunsaeng-nim who played my father-in-law for the second time. It was very nice and I felt comfortable, so I filmed really enjoying.

Q: You might have worried about appearance to play Joo Mi-ran.
Park: I wore almost no makeup. I only had base on. I drew a little bit of eyeliner from episode 9 or 10. Joo Mi-ran was a detective and ajumma, but you know it is not like ajumma can't adorn. The director-nim emphasized realness at the beginning. In order to have an ajumma feel, I paid attention to my hair style, make-up and costume. Director-nim continued to emphasize the sense of reality, so I tried to meet his request. It is important to show by acting, but I also hoped the viewers to get the ajumma impression from me. Later I became more and more used to it, and they said "You really look like an ajumma" when they watched the monitor. So I said, "I look like an ajumma even when I see myself." (Laughs) I kept wearing black, navy, khaki colored clothes.

Q: You also showed the action acting as a detective.
Park: Of course I didn't do much action like Jin-gap. But I was a Judo athlete, so I practiced hard to show some skills. It was not easy at all, but I felt satisfaction doing the scene I flipped Goo Dae-gil (Oh Dae-hwan) over. Even though I thought it was not for everyone, I felt good when I did action. It was fun and I want to do more action acting in the future.

Q: What was the part drama Jo Jang-poong touched you?
Park: It touched me in that it was a story of people who actually lived, that we could think about the reality more seriously, rather than pointing out social absurdity or power-abuse. I think there was not even one scene no one could not agree, whoever watched it. It was a story everyone could sympathize with, even if not with all scenes. It was a work that gave fantasy and a refreshing cider...

...Looking at the characters who struggled together to overcome difficulties in the show, I imagined that people might have felt the comfort of "I am not alone". It was also nice to realize the ideal and justice I desire through the drama.

Q: What was the reason you wanted to challenge with this drama?
Park: I took a year off after Money Flower. Having time alone, I had many thoughts about acting. I also thought that I should look back at myself. The direction I thought about while I took a break melted into Joo Mi-ran a lot. Her character touched me. In the bigger part, theme and story drama dealt with was very good and appealing. Instead of thinking, "I can do this well, I am confident", I thought "What would be like trying something like this which is pleasant and delightful and very different from projects I've done before?".

Q: You had more than one year break since you did Money Flower.
Park: I felt I've kept working really hard. At some point I felt like I was just swept away doing things rather than doing on my own initiative. I felt that I should not lose myself. I needed time to reflect on me to work soundly. I have always wanted to do well and have good results because I have tendency for perfectionism. I thought I needed time to put such things down.

Q: You also sang Jo Jang-poong OST.
Park: I did like a project the company was producing. Since I am not in the business, I don't have the burden of being good as a singer. So I enjoyed doing it and continue to think that I want to do the drama OST. In the previous work, I couldn't dare to do it because people like Hyorin, Lee Soo did them. The suggestion came because this project had cheerful music. Of course I said I liked it.

Q: I wonder what you plan to do for the time being.
Park: I want to work hard, but I can't start right away even if I want to. For the time being, I plan to learn to cook from my mother while resting. I've helped with cooking before, but I'd like to learn to cook properly this time.

Q: Do you have any idea about the next project?
Park: Done a pleasant drama once, which I was happy and enjoyed so much, I'd like to do a fun project one more time. I'd like to do a drama I can be excited along while filming.

It doesn't seem like a lot of Beanies are watch OSN yet. I refuse to watch it on an illegal site so I am resigned to waiting for Netflix.

I'm so mad that Netflix is getting a bunch of JTBC dramas for the summer. They ruin the drama watching experience.

Q: What kind of actress you want to be?
Park: I wish I am an actress and a person people feel no difficulty getting close. Also, rather than doing a new acting every time, I want to leave my character, not just Park Se-young to people once the work is over. I would like the character I play stands out before me, and people to remember the character I play for a long time.

This week I didn't see much going on interview-wise (meanwhile we had news like Kim Tae-hee/Rain couple bought a-few-million dollar house in LA. heh (I mentioned this before- I remember to read Bi/Rain's interview long ago right after drama Sangdoo, Let's go to school. Bi said a fortune teller told him he would hit big, but he was skeptical, thinking he was already successful since he even did a drama. I always wondered who that fortune teller was); Park Yoo-chun got sentenced -He always reminds me of Go Kyung-pyo(Reply 88) who suffered from his comments on Park, poor guy-fighting Go Kyung-pyo!; Yang Hyun-seok leaves the company with growing legal scandal (Life is like a box of chocolate -One time I read he was so happy that he woke up middle of night laughing with Psy's unexpected success).
Anyway I waited for interviews from the casts of Beautiful World, but so far I only saw one from Seo Young-joo(21) who played Han Dong-soo who was a student of father/teacher Moo-jin and lived with his younger sister.

Per wiki, Seo Young-joo was cast on the street during his third grade in elementary school. Even though he had a talent for sports, he decided acting when he got an agency. He debuted with the film Frozen Flower (2008), and drama Hero (2009). Since then Seo did various films and dramas including recent film Dong-hwa(2018) and Lingering(2019), and drama Solomon's Perjury(2016) and Lingerie Girls' Generation(2017) before doing Beautiful World.
Seo is currently majoring in film arts in college. He won Best Actor award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and Cinemanila International Film Festival for his performance in "Juvenile Offender" (2012). He was the youngest who received male actor award at the International Film Festival. In 2015, at age 17, he played Allen in the play Equus -youngest actor who played this role in the world. (side story: he didn't act completely naked) His most recent acting award was for Lingerie Girls' Generation in KBS drama awards(2017).

[Starnews, 2019.06.11] The drama Beautiful World looked at the shadow of school violence in the fall of student Park Sun-ho (Nam Da-reum), wrapped in a veil, portraying the selfish image of adults who ignored "justice" and tried to save themselves (and their children). Seo Young-joo played Han Dong-soo, a student of Park Moo-jin. Dong-soo, who was left in a blind spot in society, abandoned by the selfish adults, went to school, working part-time and took care of his sister Han Dong-hee (Lee Jae-in). He opened his heart to Moo-jin, only grown-up who believed in him, and gave positive influence in the testimony about Sun-ho's incident. Here is Q&A session.

Q: The Beautiful World ended on May 25th.
Seo: First, I'm glad that it seems to have finished well. I think I filmed happily living beautiful days in "Beautiful world". I was curious about the ending too, and I think it wrapped up well. I was worried because there was a lot of reactions "sweet potatoes"(frustrating) in the comment, but it was relief that the writer-nim and director-nim gave "cider"(refreshing) and a happy ending. I also became a member of Moo-jin's family, and it was a happy ending for Dong-soo.

Q: The appearance of a student who fell from the building in the early episode and the heavy atmosphere of the drama were similar to the previous show "SKY Castle" of JTBC, and it was mentioned and even compared in the beginning.
Seo: It also had a visual impression, giving similar vibe to SKY Castle, but the story was completely different. Personally, I was close to Song Geon-hee, Joe Byung-gyu, and Chan-hee who appeared in SKY Castle, and I felt burdened because our drama had similar atmosphere followed by the drama with amazing ratings. But I think we were able to show good work, and it was meaningful because it told a story being issued a lot.

Q: Dong-soo was a student who had been neglected by adults.
Seo: I wanted to act better than before, and worried how Dong-soo would change and how he could affect Moo-jin, reading scripts. I was also worried about how I could influence Dong-hee and Jun-seok (Seo Dong-hyun). I was able to concentrate a bit better because I played a student role who had a wound in the movie "Juvenile Offender".

Q: You played a student role in many works including Can you hear my heart, Fashion King, Golden Rainbow, Snowy road, Solomon's Perjury, Girls' Generations, etc. but in this show you filmed with younger students.
Seo: I was always the youngest on the set in my previous projects, but this time I wasn't for the first time, acting with younger students. But everyone was so good at acting that it became motivation for me. Kim Hwan-hee (Park Soo-ho) played very well, and I still remember her performance in the movie "GokSung"/Wailing.

Q: Lee Jae-in, who played your younger sister is also a child actress who attracted attention with her acting playing the lead in the movie "Svaha".
Seo: Jae In and I did shoot cheerfully on the set. When the director-nim feels happy, he says, "Oh good" when he does a "cut", and I was envious of her because Jae-in got to hear him saying that a lot. (Laughs) I made my debut at the age of 14, and she reminded me of my child actor days, and she looked awesome. I learned a lot watching her doing well in school too.

Q: 21 years old, now you are an adult. I think you have thought about "Real grown-up" shooting Beautiful World.
Seo: Watching Moo-jin I thought, "I have to become a grown-up like him." He was a teacher who was honest and, fought on behalf of the children from episode 5. I wondered if I could be such an adult.

Q: How did you start acting?
Seo: When I was 12 years old, I was cast on the street. I got greedy gradually and auditioned for various projects.

Q: What kind of actor do you want to be?
Seo: I'd like to act like the actor Jo Seung-woo. Light content is good, but I became attracted to projects that can convey messages well, as working on drama, film, and theater play. I like the projects where the contents are heavy but can be delivered lightly. While doing the work, I exchange lots of opinions and give thoughts. I was wriggling in sneaky and wily acting in Girls' Generation, and I want to continue to expand in that direction. I want to act in depth as well as lightly.

Q: What are your plans for the future?
Seo: I do the play "Kill me now" until July. I am challenging myself taking upon the role of Joey, who has a handicap in the play. I am acting feeling thankful but feeling cautious also. I also appear cameo in MBC drama "Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung". Kang Il-soo director-nim and Kim Ho-soo writer-nim who worked together in Solomon's perjury contacted me. It is the first adult saguek for me so I am excited, even though it is a special appearance.

Q: Finally, a word to the "Beautiful World" viewers.
Seo: I'd like to convey the words "We seem to live in a Beautiful World." I am strict on my acting, but I try to see the world I live in optimistically. I want to live smiling happily.

So relatable to want to hear a good word from the director! LOL.

Happy weekend Beanies!
*White Rabbit voice* I’m late! I’m late to OT! Another Friday rushing from work to other social gatherings and cramming chores in between. But again no plans this weekend, woohoo! :D
Last weekend I managed to catch up on some Dramabeans recaps reading and watched an episode of Her Private Life. I wish I could have done more, but I guess I’ll just have to enjoy weekend by weekend and hope for some more free time soon. ;)

This week I spontaneously picked up Tunnel and finished it and boy, it was the best spontaneous decision I've ever made :-) Tunnel is now one of my favourite crime/mystery dramas, its plot is really interesting with all that time-travelling back and forth, and the chemistry between the actors, especially yoon hyun min and choi jin hyuk, just sold it for me! That being said I feel really lost now because I don't know what to watch from here :"( I've been sloooooowly watching Beautiful World and it isn't a bad drama, just that the pace is a little too slow and I don't feel attracted to carry on watching, and the ongoing dramas don't really stand out in my opinion. Could any Beanies recommend me a drama to watch? Preferably near completion or completed, and it doesn't need to be romance-centric/heavily emphasise the romance!! Especially if it's as good as Tunnel :"))))

@uzzues Avocadosushi, Have you watched these?

- Confession (no romance, great arguments in court, nice partnerships)
- Signal
- Circle
- Children of Nobody
- Familiar Wife
- Go Back Couple

These are shows where the romance is almost non-existent or less and (except for Children of Nobody) there is the element of time travel or connection to the past.

Hi @uzzues avocadosushi. It is always great to meet another TUNNEL (2017) fan. It was a wonderful drama. It had as leads two of my favorites Yoon Hyun-min and Choi Jin-hyuk. A few thought based on your comments:
1. I recently finished BEAUTIFUL WORLD and enjoyed it. I know what you are saying about the pace of the drama but please stay with it. Notwithstanding some complaints I think the writers gave us a fine ending which often is a problem in kdrama land;
2.Recommendations. Crime/mystery is my favorite genre. You may have seen some of these dramas so apologies in advance.
Reviewing the dramas I watched 2017 had some excellent dramas. Somewhat chronologically: VOICE, DEFENDANT (its ratings make current dramas blush!), CHICAGO TYPEWRITER, DUEL, SECRET FOREST, STRONGEST DELIVERYMAN, WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING and PRISON PLAYBOOK.
Unfortunately (and I am in a minority here) I cannot recommend YHM's other 2017 drama WITCH'S COURT. My least favorite drama of 2017. Because of YHM I finished it but I was super annoyed the way his character was treated. It was like watching a family member being mistreated, ugh!;
3. PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (2014/15) was my first CJH drama and it made me his fan for life. 5 stars. Like BEAUTIFUL WORLD it is a tough emotional watch (even more so) but it also has a great cast and the writing was excellent. Side bar. It was also my first Lee Tae-hwan drama and what a performance he gave at the age of 19;
4. Finally, HEARTLESS CITY (2013) made me a YHM and Jung Kyung-ho fan for life.
Since I only arrived in kdrama land in early 2016 both P&P and HC were catch ups for me.
Thanks for letting me fanboy a bit and I hope you don't mind the 2017 concentration. Happy viewing.

Hi @marcusnyc20! Thanks for all the recommendations!! I've watched Chicago Typewriter, Prison Playbook and While You Were Sleeping and loved them all :-) The only other YHM drama I've watched is Tales of Gyeryeong Fairy, which definitely isn't the best drama writing-wise, I can only hope his next project will do him better! And I've been on and off about wanting to watch Pride and Prejudice and I think you gave me the final push to start on it HAHA,, looking forward to more of CJH :")))))

Dear Community, I've been trying to remember the name of a drama/movie (?) in which a mysterious phone app fulfills wishes in exchange for future acts. An office worker gets sucked into it--first a kiss, then money, and ultimately way more than he bargained for. Google was no help. My hope is that someone here knows. I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, but I've run out of ideas. Title, anyone, please?

Years ago (over 12), I watched a drama - either Korean or Japanese - about an anime artist and his three brothers. They lived in a high rise building. A female editor was assigned to work with them. She eventually fell in love with the most difficult brother, who I think was the anime writer. I'd love to watch the drama again, but have no idea who was in it or what it's called?
