Beanie level: Wrongly accused fugitive

Yay! I can finally post again. DB decided everything I wanted to say for the past two days was inappropriate but I’m back lol

I even tried posting the nicest and simplest things like:
I like Sera.
I love Into the Ring.
I love Dramabeans
But to no avail. I finally know what the Inappropriate Word Curse is about though.

This is unexpected but cute. Seon Ho is so obviously awkward it’s funny. 🤭 Perhaps Love is such a timeless OST btw.

I watched episode one of Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency and it\’s SO BAD! I\’ve had it in my watch list because of Min Jae but I cringe every other scene.

Finished another drama over the weekend. Two Cops was an alright drama. It wasn\’t bad but it never had a wow factor to it. It had a good start but the plot meandered in limbo for a few (too many) episodes in the middle. Then it felt like Show remembered it had a plot and got its pace back. But it threw me for a loop with a terrible twist in episode 16….okay so mini rant.

Why would you randomly pull out the Dong Tak started the accident card if it was never going to be mentioned again? First of all, it\’s not Dong Tak\’s fault that Tak Jr. drove off in the car. At the end of the day it was Tak\’s own decision to do so. It was a stupid thing to do (to taunt him) but Show made it seem like everything was Dong Tak\’s fault. My problem is that they made it seem like \”a big deal\” only to never address it again. The last we heard of it was Soo Chang saying they\’d talk it out later but we never saw that. DT was wondering how he\’d break the news to Ji An but we never saw that either. And what is up with his selective amnesia? He remembers everything about that day except that? So why throw in such a low and random twist that makes no sense only to never mention it again? I don\’t understand! Okay, I\’m done.

I did enjoy seeing JJS portray his character being Soo Chang pretending to be his character. This guy is talented and I admit I kept watching only for him and KSH. Their interactions were fun and I wish we had the partnership throughout the drama versus the useless love triangle. That just made Soo Chang insufferable for a while. I also didn\’t care for Hyeri\’s character. It was a terrible casting decision to pair her with JJS because he just outshines anyone. But then I don\’t know if I would care for her character even if someone else played her because her character was written to be quite useless and dissapeared in the latter half. She was just there and while I admit I didn\’t mind seeing less of her towards the finale, story wise it was a waste of a character. The reveal of Ji An\’s father fell quite flat. We weren\’t given enough backstory on her for us to care. Her character served no purpose other than being a reporter.

In any event I embarked this drama for Kim Seon Ho and I find it that the dramas of his I had put off and am watching now are the ones I\’m liking the least. I liked his portrayal of a conman and his bickering with JJS but that\’s about it. Interestingly, I find that he\’s improved in his acting! There were a few scenes in Two Cops where I felt his emotions were a bit off. A bit jarring at times. But its nice to see that he\’s improved over the years and is working on mastering his craft.

Shout out to Yong Pal and the Avengers by the way. They were far more amusing and useful than half of the other characters lol. GoBongs was cute…wait she could have been the FL! She had more screen time than Hyeri towards the end.

Okay, and I just want to say that the case could have been solved much much sooner if Soo Chang had just followed the bad guys around…because, you know, they can\’t see him! But then I guess we wouldn\’t have a story, would we? 🙃

I actually have a lot of little misgivings about the accident and villains but maybe I\’ll just keep those to myself. Regardless, I did enjoy the good parts enough to not regret watching it. It\’ll just be one of those dramas I\’ll never rewatch.

I will rewatch some of the bickering scenes, but never the whole drama. The writing was just bad in the latter half…

I like this show and rewatch it often because I like most of the side characters and the relationships between nearly all of the characters.

Even though he acted in theatre since 2009, theatre acting is more theatrical/more movement/more bombastic. In a way, he adapted pretty fast to the drama landscape. He said for Chief Kim, that he stood up and they couldn’t see his full body lol. So he learned how to act in front of the camera from his side roles.

As for 2 Cops, dude is crazy lol. I think this was also during the time he did 6 plays that year :O He said he did a play/2 Cops at the same time, and he would never do it again (filming them both at the same time) b/c it was just madness. I do think that while his comedic chops were always there. It wasn’t until Start Up, where he fully commanded the screen imo? As in, we all knew how talented/charming he was in his prior dramas. But S.U is where he fully stole the show/became the most talked about person from it. He ignited a new fire in himself, maybe the confident nature of HJP rubbed off on him, or being in front of camera more?

It must have definitely been a change going from theater to dramas. It’s a different environment. I appreciate the fact that he started with side roles versus jumping into bigger roles, not that it may have been possible lol. But it made his progress evolve naturally. It’s a beauty to have followed his progress and to see how he’s adjusted his technique. I just started Start Up today actually and am interested to see the differences and improvement in his acting right after seeing him in Two Cops. He’s consistently been a scene stealer with his smaller roles/secondary roles so I’m not surprised he blew in Start Up lol.

Thing is, Chief Kim’s PD spotted him at a play and he auditioned getting that role. For SDM/2Cops, he auditioned for side roles. For SDM: He went in for a deliveryman role, and got upgraded to 2nd ML. He wasn’t the original choice for his role in SDM, it was Jang Mi-kwan. And for 2 Cops, it was Choi Woo Shik who declined. All these opportunities, it paved the way for him. He said working with Jo Jung Suk who is an idol in theatre was amazing. Although JJS didn’t give him much advice while working. And then 100 Days My Prince, he got referred to by a former co-star and the PD agreed that he fit the brainy sexy role lol. So in a way, his limitations are due to him not having much confidence on himself and his abilities as an actor.

For someone who just debuted in 2017 in Broadcast Media, and blew up big time in 2020 is MAJOR!! Usually, there are loads of charming/talented/attractive actors that have been working for ages, and are still in 2nd ML roles. Whereas for KSH, he moved on up to ML status in 2019, just 2 yrs in his acting career. Oh you haven’t watched S.U yet? Oh, seeing it in full now should be interesting esp. given the fan wars that ensued lol. His role in Start Up is such a cool/complex character. I thought he brought justice to the character, and showcased another side to himself. He definitely was uber charismatic, and I can tell he finessed his acting prowess even more so in this show.

        2

I remember an interview where he said he felt lucky because of the way his casting opportunities came about. He wasn’t expecting them to evolve the way they did. Talent is definitely a huge factor in success for an actor (any type of entertainer really) but a hint of luck is also part of it. Nonetheless, he must have been memorable in his auditions for them to cast him to a bigger role. I’m glad the PDs were able to notice his talent.

I can’t believe he debuted in 2017. It feels like it was ages ago lol but it’s relatively a very short span of time. I wasn’t convinced with Start Up because of his co-stars so I was going to wait on what beanies’ thought about it. It blew up rather quickly here on DB and I was about to start it but then the shipping wars happened. I’d rather watch it on my own so I can have my unbiased take on the story.

Timing, luck, hard work, and opportunity are the 4 factors involved. He was just lucky that the timing worked out for him to get noticed by Chief Kim’s PD, which allowed him the chance to audition thus opening up the portal to Broadcast Media. He said after the show, he was going to go back to plays, but his mom pushing him & a free trip to Cebu due to the success of the show changed his mind. He saw the perks involved with acting on-screen, & from there started to slowly audition for other roles.

If you think about it, 2017 to 2020 (Breakthrough Career Wise), it’s astonishing how fast his rise was. What I’m a bit worried is, b/c of how fast he rose up, if it’s too much for him? Dude was practically ‘unknown’ for 10-11 yrs, to now this massive upturn in fame/attention on him. Even those watching S.U, couldn’t have even imagined the response he would get. Ah, the power of Netflix, &. co-starring with Hallyu leads in a rom-com.

@soulsearch12 This! Timing, luck, hard work, and opportunity are the 4 factors involved I kept trying to find this reply in the other thread but I think this is the formula for success as an actor. I’d also include talent because I do think he really is! And I’m glad he continued to venture into dramas, now it’s just a matter of picking the right ones. Namgoong is the only actor I can think of that has a lot of luck picking dramas. Except his romcoms because those were questionable. Which is why I hope KSH doesn’t fall into romcom territory 100%. I’d get it if they pushed for him to do one or two but I’d like scripts with more substance that required a greater variety of acting technique.

Which by the way, this got me thinking that KSH’s secondary lead characters are the fan favorites. Kdramas tend to have better characters in second leads than main ones. Meanwhile, for the most part, the kdrama main lead is still very cookie cutter. Genius, arrogant, rich, tragic past, possessive, noble idiot, etc. 😱 I don’t want KSH in such a mediocre character.

            1
            0

Lol, yea the reply option disappears after a while. I find @ username is the way to go.

Talent is another factor too! Altho I’ve some woof actors get big fast/still are lauded…I feel it’s worse in Dramas, where visuals triumph over acting. It’s why some people get Main’s, over more talented actors who’ve to grind hard for yrs to get Main’s/2nd Mains.

Eventually NGM is going to hit a rough patch one day. Like all actors do, & that’s fine/normal! I think if you constantly hit gold, you get cocky from it. I hear it’s good to have a minor setback every now/then, b/c that helps you grow more as an actor/person. But yes, minus that 1 rom-com, his picks have been great! He’s the go to Drama actor now. It’s like GHJ back in the 2010s with her rom-coms.

Rom-com/KSH: It’s a genre that launches/solidifies an actor’s fandom. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does a romance show next. In fact, the works he’s been offered have been rom-com based. Esp. since this’ll be his 1st time doing a romance genre, which I’m excited for ngl. Now, the larger ? is, him/SALT not choosing to just do rom-coms going forward. I do believe that KSH will steer away from fluffy rom-coms. Looking at his works, he picks based on character driven stories than just romance based. His theatre work show that he does like more substantial stories. IA, 2 Romance/Rom-com shows, I’m A-OK with. It’s going to help him solidify his status in Drama land. Now after he does, he could debut in Film, & do a villain/grey role.

It depends. Sometimes, the 2nd leads in romance lol, are cookie cutter trying to break the main’s apart. But yes, it’s why character actors get the best roles b/c its dynamic/out there. I do sense a similarity w/ his roles (Not his acting), but the tragic family b.g, softie at love, misjudged prick whose a nice guy & pitiful. K-dramas lets be real, we watch for the plot but mostly the actors draw us in. I would love to see him in a Kingdom, Kill Me, Heal Me, Stranger, Chuno, I’m Sorry, I Love You, Nine, Heartless City, & My Mister type of shows/roles. All In.

Esp. All In, a role where he starts as a tragic character, growing into a strong one, & ups/downs. A Korean Godfather lol. A strong/powerful role like HJP (If he wasn’t cut short in the 2nd half of S.U), where he can show his depth of acting.

Ugh, he would be amazing in the roles. All the ML’s roles were amazing, deep, and powerful. He has the chops to handle it, it’s just a matter of a great writer/channel to give him that opportunity. I foresee in 2-3 yrs (37), getting a role like that, if he picks well in 2021/22.

One ?, some like him in comedy, & others drama. Is there one you prefer him more in or doesn’t matter?

            1
            0

@soulsearch12 NGM is interesting because he didn’t blow up exponentially. He gradually gained recognition with his roles and the diversity in them. I’m not looking forward to seeing him lose steam but if he does I must say he’d have one of the best, if not the best, kdrama trajectories imo! I just gotta give it to him. He’s talented and I respect him a lot. Ha this is actually a role model I’d like for KSH now that I think about it, career wise.

I’m okay with a romcom if the writing doesn’t lose itself in ridiculousness. I just have so little trust in kdrama romances at this point lol. Did you see Into the Ring? Or Dinner Mate? I felt like they had a realistic approach to adults in relationships. They weren’t cheesy. ITR had exceptional characterization so the otp felt natural. Dinner Mate had its shortcomings but it was refreshing to see two adults fall in love while respecting each other. I’m not saying I want KSH to play these exact type of characters (no one else can replace Park Sung Hoon, not even KSH, sorry lol! 🤭) but I’d love to see him tackle a more realistic romance. Not the cotton candy type of romance.

I really want to see KSH in something epic haha like Chuno or Bridal Mask. Where he doesn’t have to look perfect. Where he gets dirty and the camera doesn’t always get his best side. Image? What image? Heh. Something riveting with great character development.

I don’t mind him in comedy. I enjoyed Waikiki a lot but then again I liked the humor and the rest of the cast. It was fun watching him do something different. If he ever picks up a supernatural type of drama I probably won’t watch it. They’re just not my cup of tea. I think that’s why I didn’t enjoy Two Cops as much because it had somewhat of that concept. I almost didn’t watch it honestly.

He’s played great characters for the most part. His character in 100 Days My Prince was a bit underwhelming in my opinion; wasn’t memorable. I liked him the most in Deliveryman and Catch the Ghost. CTG had more scenes of him being serious so I think that’s why I enjoyed it. We got to see more depth in his acting. Such a bummer that its apparently not very memorable for him. I’ve liked his range the most in CTG. Of course, I have yet to finish Start Up and I hear he did great there so my opinion may change.

Which by the way I’ve only watched 30 minutes of episode one and that was three days ago! The super long episodes throw me off lol and I think I lowkey may be getting a KSH overdose. Never thought I’d say that! 😭 He’s literally everywhere I go online and social media. Maybe I should save SU for later so I can enjoy better?? I don’t know!!!!!

@yongsital NGM might get married soon? So his offers may dry up (*that’s another issue that I’m like huh about? b/c I’m used to H-wood, where couples divorce, marry, & so on w/o it affecting their careers. Sorry for diverting a bit, but yes his career change is amazing. Since he began in bit parts, Remember changed his career. I think NGM (Drama front) is a good role model, he draws a line btwn personal/private life. KSH said he was amazed by his work ethic. Altho 2-3 hrs a wk shooting is NGM’s thing, which isn’t healthy. Look at Jang Hyuk, NGM got all the parts he would get?

I would love to se him in an adult/mature romance show. Just b/c his prior efforts were too short to tell. ITR, yes! Towards the end, a bit meh. But rom-com wise, great! PSH (He was referred to as a theatre idol), so I was like lol when KSH is referred to that lol. They worked together in 2016 in Almost Maine (play). Also kissed his gf too ha!

You and me same page on the romance bit! I hate fluffy/cotton candy type romance too. Give me sexy/flirty/sensual/seductive/adult relationship pls! Altho would we be able to handle him like that? I want to see lots of skin-ship/intimacy/witty banter!

Jang Hyuk was 33 when he did Chuno, WOW. Like KSH is 34 now, hope in 2-3 yrs if he chooses well gets a meaty/powerful character that allows him to showcase his talent. It’s sad that prior to dramas, he was like whatevs about how he looks on-screen. In Waikiki 2, the PD said “Do you want to look ‘ugly’? He said he never cared/thought about those things until then. Ah, K-dramas, “trying to look pretty isn’t acting!” I’ve a big issue w/ talents trying not to look ‘ugly’ on-screen, rme.

I hope he doesn’t do a slap-stick comedy role again, he did well in it, but W2 aside. I want to see him in a role that’s more manly/mature? HJP showed that, & he was so dashing/dreamy lol.

On 2 Cops, I hope he doesn’t dye his hair again/cut his hair like 2 Cops again. Not flattering, made him look weird lol. I like his SDM haircut, but it gave him douche vibes, which fit w/ the role lol.

100 Days: I heard he was brainy/sexy there? Very serious role right?

CTG: His crying scene 🙁 He had a great role! Too bad he doesn’t like CTG/talks about it 🙁 I think declining ratings for it didn’t help his self esteem. He showed all sides to himself, action, romantic, cheesy, accent, manly, cute, & etc. When he wore the police uniform, & came to the kid, I swooned so hard.

S.U: watching it live helped for me, or else I wouldn’t be able to finish it. Don’t fret, it happens! I had to stop viewing all the KSH SNS stuff, b/c every small thing he did would get praised & it started to annoy me, and some of his new fans were sorta to annoy me. It affected KSH a bit for me.Yhe K-pop fandom tricking into his, as u said eh :/

Take a break from KSH SNS? Watch S.U when you can give 100% attention to it. It also doesn’t help his new work isn’t confirmed yet, not coming out until Spring/Summer/Or Fall lol?

@soulsearch12 Re: NGM. You think so? That his offers will dry up if he gets married? How so? If he were a romcom type of guy I’d say perhaps. But he tends to pick solitary characters with great character development. I just love this guy’s talent that I’d hate to lose him from my TV enjoyment lol! But I’m intrigued at why you think so.

I’m mindblown that Jang Hyuk was 33 when he did Chuno. And it got me thinking so I looked up Bridal Mask and Joo Won was 25? What do I have to do to get KSH a role like this? Okay, so Jang Hyuk was a complete “visual” mess in Chuno but that didn’t make him any less attractive! I don’t get why looking pretty on screen is so important for acting. Just make me believe the story you’re trying to tell. I hope KSH sticks with his acting principles.

Yeah, I didn’t like his hair color nor his jean jacket in Two Cops. Haha it was an odd combination. 100 Days My Prince, it’s interesting that him being brainy is how he’s described (even the guys on 2D1N said the same). But I’m always scratching my head at that because I didn’t really see his character as such? He was smart, I guess, but he wasn’t super smart hah. At least that’s not the idea I got from his character. He was also kind of nonchalant at times. It was just an odd character, he was there but he wasn’t. If you ever do watch it I’d be interested to know what you think about it. Like I’m having a hard time remembering him in the drama as I’m trying to describe him to you, that’s how little of an impression his character left. 😅 It felt like wasted potential but the drama was more fluffy so I honestly cared more for the leads and the show did too obviously.

I think I will put SU on hold and maybe 2D1N too. I should revisit some of my other faves and maybe that’ll kill time until his next project is in the works.

@yongsital Omg, sorry! I just realized I posted the wrong reply on my post and not here!

NGM: Maybe?Usually for females, when they get married, unless your established,it’s hard. But for NGM,b/c he is established now, I think he’ll be fine. Even Jang Hyuk, has slowed down once he got kids. He’ll still get offers, but maybe not work as much (His personal choice too). Granted, dude works 2-3 dramas a yr. So he’ll prob. do a drama every yr. Him not being a rom-com guy helps his offers/versatility!

Jang Hyuk: Was in the industry since the early 90s, so he’s been grinding hard. Plus less competition back then, so he was able to rise w/ meaty roles. There’s a show called Into the Sunlight which seems primed for a remake. Something natural, but character driven, which would be good for Seon-ho. As for him getting Chuno, crazy right? He was already a big name moreso in the 2000s, so he was just in the right time/place to get a career defining part like that.

Joo Won: Loads of actors turned down Bridal Mask b/c of the Japanese thing, not to risk their fanbase there. I heard Lee Seung Gi was offered and said no, so KBS rumored to have blacklisted him. So JW was the only one who said yes, & KBS gave him 2d1n/Weekend drama as a gift.

I thought about this but, 1 person turning down a role could be one’s fortune. Yeah, IA.Why is it that in K-dramas, visuals triumph over acting? Some actors want to look “good” all the time, its feels stagnant. Hope he also sticks w/ his acting principles. Of course, Korea’s beauty industry is demanding but I think for the most part he doesn’t care? In S.U, he has smile lines, and isn’t afraid to cry ‘ugly’ (Yeah that’s a thing, some actors don’t emote in fear of looking ‘ugly’ huh?). He did say he did put more effort into his appearance since being on TV.Said when he was on Chief Kim, he thought he had to lose weight.Didn’t put lotion on his face until he was on tv, lol. Please no botox/weird surgery procedures PLS!! I want him to age naturally, don’t mess up your face!

He looked sorta douchey w/ that hair color/jean jacket combo. Lol, at that being his only outfit. He looks the best in his regular hair color. Even in CTG, his hair color was nice too. Bit of color that’s not too flashy is fine. He’s not a Kpop idol. Light hair colors look weird on his skin tone.

Former SDM co-star Ki-hoon refer him to 100 Days PD, who said KSH fit the brainy sexy guy quality lol. I came across a scathing review/comment about KSH & his 2d1n persona. It said he doesn’t try hard/slacker compared to Yoon Shi Yoon, & he’s dumb as rocks. Damn, look I don’t watch the show, but ouch. She also said for the sake of his acting image, he pulls back. Like he has strong physical abilities (rock climbs well), but his physical stamina is weak. It made me think him being on this show is making him seem like a slacker/dumb guy :3

100 Days: Some said they got 2ndML syndrome lol.But it seems he wasn’t in the show that much to make a big impact

            1
            0

            @soulsearch12
Haha I think I mix our conversations anyways so it’s okay!

Well, here’s all my best wishes for NGM. I think it’s also interesting how NGM is an established actor but he had just the right fanbase where his dating and possibly getting married is no problem. In any case it shouldn’t be but we know how the k-industry is. I kind of wanted KSH to go down this route a little vs the huge popularity boost at the expense of several liberties.

Jang Hyuk, I feel has a million works under his belt. He’s slowed down now but even a few years ago I was wondering how he could do so many dramas back to back. You can tell he loves acting though in his interviews and just watching him. He’s been in the industry for a long time but I can still see his passion for acting and that’s why I also like him a lot. I feel like I’m literally seeing a kid in a candy store when he’s working on a new project. Some of his recent works haven’t been up my alley but I hold him in high regard for his trajectory and continuous devotion to his craft.

Joowon I feel bad for because he hasn’t had anything good since Bridal Mask and Good Doctor. Yongpal had an interesting premise but it diverted too much into KTH’s story. The rouge doctor storyline would have made a better drama. And I had forgotten that! The reason why actors turned down Bridal Mask. Now that you mention it I do remember thinking Joowon took a risk and it worked out marvelously for him. Of course, he had less of a burden to carry as he wasn’t as big as LSG but it was still a risk nonetheless! I really should watch Bridal Mask again.

Lol at the ugly crying. I mean how many of us look pretty when we cry? That’s why I hate it. It just causes a huge eye roll from me. I have seen clips of his crying in SU (very brief ones as I don’t want to spoil myself ha) and I’m glad he didn’t disappoint.

Sounds like that person isn’t really fond of KSH? I didn’t perceive that from what I’ve watched. If anything the show and writers have been pushing for the idea that Jong Min is now the genius of the team. I’m sure there’s still a lot that is scripted, say like general concepts for the members. I’m not saying they’re making out KSH to be the “dumb” one though. They pick at all of them at some point for not knowing things. In any case, I haven’t seen past episode 15 yet so I don’t know how it has progressed. But with SALT paying more attention to his image I won’t be surprised if KSH stops doing certain things. Who knows. But yeah that person is probably biased against the guy.

I didn’t get 2MLS in 100 Days My Prince. 🙃 I love you KSH but no lol.

            @yongsital Hi!

NGM never did heartthrob roles, so he wasn’t boxed in that type of fantasy? Altho he did try w/ INR3&We got Married lol. But ultimately, don’t think it was his path, thus Remember proved to be a gift for him to seek out diff. roles/find his groove. IA, K-industry/dating is something else.It shouldn’t be a big deal who they date. For KSH, bit worried b/c of his fame now that he can’t date freely anymore.Rn, its apparent that he’s a star, but the star that shines bright before dimming? Or a star that becomes a long working actor? Eventually, all the hype will slow down/go away. He’s in his prime now, but his late 30s/early 40s is where I’m curious is where he’ll be? I would love for him to be a Cho Seung Woo/Ji Sung like actor: longevity/also separate btwn personal life/career. Only time will tell.

Jang Hyuk:Actors in the 1st gen, were luckier as they had less competition/could only just focus on acting/more choices. For actors like him, they got their due/acclaim/longevity, & settled down that anything that follows is just rewarding.

JW:His choices past Yongpal (Ratings/career wise) have been dismal. He’s another actor whose agency chooses bad work for him (To make him a star)vs.the work he choose: Bridal Mask/Good Doctor did great. But what SH has an advantage of, is his comedic/dramatic chops are gold. Not sure how much SALT chooses for him, but it seems all the roles he gotten, he auditioned for it.Only S.U, is where he got picked by the PD.

During Waikiki 2, he said “I wasn’t someone who’d be concerned about how I look. I shot a scene which required me to look ugly, but the director suddenly asked me if I have ever be concerned about my looks while monitoring the scene. Ah, why am I like that.”Again, must mess w/ actors minds trying to look a certain way. But in CTG/S.U, dude wasn’t afraid/cared to look messy, unkempt, or ugly crying. He also is ok w/ his smile lines and eye bags showing onscreen. He’s an expressive actor, so despite him putting a bit more into his look now, he doesn’t seem to have forgo’d it in his work.

Yea, I don’t think they like KSH lol. It did seem like his smile annoyed them, & they read way too much into his mannerisms. It was a bit like, I get if your not a fan, but it seemed bitter/resentful to him lol :3 I’m sure some parts are given for them to do/be.Oh, SALT. Altho someone said, on the live thing he did for 2d1n, he wore some weird getup, so clearly he don’t care.Yep, biased/viewing him negatively, like it’s not serious girl!

He didn’t have a huge presence in 100Days, it seems. I saw some clips, & it seemed like his most serious role.

            @soulsearch12
Interesting how you describe NGM and I agree. It does make me curious as to what trajectory KSH will have. NGM found his niche and what he excels in. I wonder what KSH will be known for down the road. What will come to mind when people think Kim Seon Ho. It’s exciting to think!

Yes, I don’t think he personally cares for his looks a lot. He might be more conscious about himself since he’s more popular but he doesn’t seem like the type of guy to care more about how he looks on the monitor than his acting. Its SALT that worries me.

Aww how can anyone not like his smile? Lol to each his own. But not liking KSH’s smile is no reason to criticize him so much and call him dumb. Constructive criticism is great but not plain bashing. He loves to smile though lol so poor person. But you know that just like he got an influx of fans he’ll also get non fans. His exposure may also annoy people who don’t fancy him. You win some you lose some. Hope he stays positive though.

This is really off topic but I find your opinions very interesting. What do you think of Park So Dam’s career? I absolutely fell for the girl in Beautiful Mind. I know, hugely criticized drama with terrible ratings but it made me a fan. She has an interesting trajectory. She started in film and gained recognition but when she went into the small screen her acting was criticized. Cinderella was mediocre and a waste of her talent. She dissapeared off the small screen for a while and stuck to theater and films. I do think it’s because she had such a bad welcoming in dramas. Of course, then Parasite happened. And then yet another mediocre show in Record of Youth. I know it had good ratings but it was so boring and it again felt like a waste of her talent. Why is it that dramas make her look like a bad actress? It seems like her career rides on highs and lows. What do you think is missing in the formula? I have no doubt that she’s talented but something doesn’t add up. I wish she’d do a serious drama. Maybe that’s the problem. She’s been in dramas that would be a better fit for the younger actresses. It just puzzles me and I wish she had better luck in dramas. Maybe she’ll just stick to film, where she gets more recognition and accolades.

@yongsital NGM also tried the mainstream/rom-com route. He did We Got Married, which was just cringy. His rom-com’s also didn’t do well. He found a niche as the serious/dramatic actor. Imagine SH in We Got Married type of show, yikes! For SH, b/c he excels in both comedy/drama, but also action too, that he can be like a Jo Jung Suk/Jung Kyung ho type of path? He’s not a flower boy, has a boyishness to him, but is also manly/masculine too. He could do it all imo!

I find that refreshing. I’m sure he knows he’s attractive, but he’s humble about it which I like. He always diverts his attention from his looks, in interviews. He said that his typical look is fresh off the shower hair/tracksuit.

That person also disliked HJP/KSH before, judging by their prior articles. And no not being biased or anything, but even if I wasn’t a fan, it seemed like her comments w/ other non-fans said that his smile/face was annoying/cocky/fake, & calling hm dumb. I do agree that SALT/himself smiling too much/dimples thing can get old very fast, so hope he reels that in. It seems like she was reading way too much into 2d1n lol, its not that serious gurl! But yes, going on, he’ll get even worse critiques (K-netizens oof), so I hope he focuses on his work than that.

Thanks! PSD, ngl, I feel like despite her and KGE being two diff. actors (visual/acting) that they get compared. I guess one monoloid actress can’t exist together? She’s someone who works better in film than drama. Even tho film stars are more regarded, it doesn’t always translate to ratings/drama. Ex. Hwang Jung Min/Hush isn’t doing as expected despite his Chungmuro status. She’s filming a new film rn, which seems like a better fit for her talents/less critiques from K-netizens(Like really?). Her roles in her dramas are thankless, & she’s overshadowed by her bigger ML’s. RoY was meh/boring, it was really the PBG show. I like her moxie/look, but after RoY, I found myself thinking she was boring/charisma free. She’s not a star, so her choosing cutesy shows seems like her agency wants her to do both but I personally don’t think she has the charisma/star power to be a Drama star. Of course, this could change if she does less cutesy stuff (doesn’t suit her), but more heavier/dramatic fare, that could change. “But at some point I became afraid of the thought of other people focusing their attention on me. I felt like I couldn’t act like myself but thought, ‘I should be like this’ or ‘I should be like that.” She said people’s expectations on her gave her more pressure to be a certain way, & she said even now, it’s hard to be herself. Some people just aren’t made for the drama route. Even tho film actors take more chances/better actors, there’s a certain charisma/star power one needs to lead a Drama (I know lol right?). I think sticking w/ film/theatre helps her stay grounded/to grow as an actress, when the time comes where she’s ready to be in drama, this time as the Main FL/not just used as a prop 4 the ML.

            @soulsearch12
Oh absolutely, KSH is not a flower boy and I like that he’s not. He really showed that boyish & masculine charm in CTG. Again, why does he not seem fond of this show? lol

Re: PSD. I like her and think her strength is in her serious characters. I had never been able to pinpoint what it was but reading what you wrote, I think you may be right. Charisma is what she’s probably lacking and it pains me to say it because she’s my girl! But yes, that’s what it is. I absolutely hate that she did Cinderella because it was such a generic drama that made her into a giggly Candy. Gosh what a waste of talent. She was pretty bland in ROY too. So I do agree that she excels in film and more serious, grown up roles. Matter of fact, seeing her in Closer was interesting because it was different. I’ve also followed her for years and the cutesy persona she has on variety or TV doesn’t really feel like her? She seems more of a relaxed type of gal, at least that’s the vibe I get from her. I do hope she gets a good role soon, be it in film or a drama. Parasite I never finished because it wasn’t my type of film but I hear she did good. Crazy how different all the industries are, film, drama, theater. She did great with Parasite so I thought she’d have a great drama comeback but it ended up being another mediocre show with a heavily centered ML story. Like I want to see her on the small screen but then the interesting and different roles are found in films and plays. You can never win lol.

            1
            0

@yongsital Yeah KSH has both masculine traits but also soft traits too. He’s a boyish looking lad, which could be a good thing b/c of his late debut/age, he can still look young/be cast w/ people younger than him.

As for CTG, dunno. But I think the ratings dwindling by half by the middle of the show didn’t help his confidence imo. And the storyline was prob. more hectic than he likes? I notice that when actors get to be in projects that don’t do well ratings wise/under the radar, they don’t really like to talk about it in future interviews. We see him talk more about Start Up, b/c it gave him more attention/recognition. And it seems he likes slice of life type of shows as he said in his interview about wanting to do one in the future.

PSD: I think I was a bit harsh on her, she does have charm but she’s not an aegyo/bubbly gal. She’s more low-key in her work. So that could come across as lesser compared to her co-stars. I do think her drama works have been subpar for her, in terms of the roles they’ve given her. She was quite charming in Parasite. I think even if your a film star, having success in dramas requires a diff. set of tools. As there’s more emphasis on their visuals/popularity moreso than their acting, no offense.

Film, drama, & theater requires diff. set of acting, and their friends/hierarchy circles are extremely different for both. Her doing all three of those are very impressive, helps her from to not be stale/continue to do interesting work. She’s still young (30), so she still has time but sometimes not everyone wants to be a major star. I think if you can act, have your own path, & not get scrutinized, it should be ok in the end…

I finished Into the Ring and words cannot express how much I enjoyed this drama. I dare say it\’s one of the best shows I\’ve ever watched. It was so wholesome, inspirational, magnificent, and effortlessly hilarious. The OTP was pure bliss, so much so that I feel I degrade their relationship by coining it with such a common kdrama term, \”OTP.\” They were a relatively ordinary pair of characters but how is it that they leave such a lingering impression?

GOO SE RA! Has there ever been such a lovely heroine? I\’ve already read so much praise for her and I can\’t properly describe her to do her justice. But she was that girl that a lot of us aspire to be, well at least I do lol. Perhaps my favorite thing about her was how she was brave and resilient when it came to standing up for what was right but she was still vulnerable and needed a strong support system. Whether it be Gong Myung\’s hugs with words of encouragement, a cactus in her office, or the pink slippers her dad bought for her, those were the little things that helped her move forward. I feel like a lot of shows fail at developing a character like this. Many shows start off with a spunky and outspoken heroine only to tumble her to a damsel in distress. But Se Ra was a refreshing and realistic balance. You can be brave and still be vulnerable at moments but with the right support group you find the Liu Bei within yourself and keep fighting the battle even if it means you\’re the last one standing. What\’s so satisfying is that she was also there for her friends, family, and Gong Myung. Seeing her and Gong Myung be on the same wavelength and complement each other so well was a huge part of why I liked them. They were equals and supported each other but always respecting each others boundaries as individuals. And to top it all off Se Ra was so much fun. She was wacky but it made her such an endearing character. I could watch her wink and giggle all day!

Surprisingly, I never found any of the characters to be annoying which I believe is due to great characterization. From Gong Myung\’s dad, to Yoon Hee Soo, to Se Ra\’ ex (I really appreciate the fact that Min Jae wasn\’t used as a clingy ex plot…yes I\’m looking at you Dinner Mate), I never felt exhausted. They weren\’t cartoon villains; they were well rounded individuals even when they were wrong.

Episode 16 was bittersweet as it summarized Se Ra\’s journey. I found it interesting that a lot of the moments that she looked back on were moments were onlookers could say she had lost. But that just goes back to how she kept fighting even if it seemed like a lost battle. At first, I felt like I wanted to know more on what happened with the Smart City development or the arsenic issue but then I realized that the battle isn\’t over and people just have to stand up for the cause.

And I can\’t end this post without a shout out to the last bus stop scene, which I admit I teared up at. Se Ra notes to Gong Myung that the bus stop still has the name Sarang but it will eventually change too. Then Gong Myung assures her it\’ll be okay because they\’ll still be there. It was so poignant, especially as Memory was part of Eun Shil\’s campaign. It hit close to home because sometimes you fear the world will forget that person but as long as there are still people who remember and cherish that person, thing, or memory, it\’ll be okay.

For being such a beautiful gem to end my 2020, for making me laugh, and for inspiring me to keep trudging forward, thank you Into the Ring. I\’ll definitely be revisiting this drama soon. Nana!! ❤

P.S. It\’s embarrassing how many times I\’ve replayed the 3 seconds of Se Ra giggling while calling Gong Myung pretty.

No one probably remembers these details….but I was watching Two Cops during my lunch break today and had a huge epiphany moment when I realized why this prosecutor guy always wears turtle necks. Here I thought it was just because it was cold.

No, I’m not posting this for the kiss but for 2:25 when Sera calls him pretty. I love love love that line and Nana’s delivery. She’s such a girl crush. I love her. I’m super late to this party, I know, but Into the Ring came in to save 2020 for me.

The OTP in Two Cops has got to be one of  the randomest couples to exist. Dong Tak pretty much told Ji An to get lost in episode one. Next thing you know she\’s tagging along his investigation and then suddenly he kisses her. What? Did I miss something?

Just give me Dong Tak looking like a crazy man talking to what appears thin air but is really Soo Chang.

I LOVE Two Cops. I have a reliable talent of completely ignoring Hyeri. Probaby learned from years and years of toddler interactions 😂

LOL I can see the resemblance. She’s just so bleh in this and I feel her character is dragging the plot (at episode 8). I like the guys though, aside from SC being a bit much sometimes.

This is another show on my KSH watchlist. But prob. on the bottom list lol. I did hear that he stole the show from JJS, and even stole the show from him. But I hear the plot is ok, so I’m curious. I know its b/c he’s in a coma, but I do have to laugh at him being in the same outfit all throughout. I guess the clothing budget was nothing lol.

    1
    1

I laugh at his outfit too. Why couldn’t it be a better outfit? Why a washed out jean jacket? Haha. It’s an okay drama imo, his other dramas are a lot better though.

      1

Same lol. Add to that, this show was filmed in Fall/Winter, so he must’ve been freezing cold 😀 Styling wise/hair wise, HJP was his best top to bottom. I also like his styling in CTG as well. Nice solid colors, and simple updated basics too. Also gotta love the Converse too.

Other than Start Up, Two Cops is the last KSH drama I need to watch and lol what a silly show. It\’s not bad but I don\’t think (and hope) it takes itself seriously. I must say Jo Jung Suk is a pleasure to watch. I had forgotten how natural his acting is and watching him portray Kim Seon Ho\’s character is double the fun.

The whole case mystery is very generic. Hyeri is possibly the worst actress to put against Jo Jung Suk (I\’m sorry!). My delight comes from watching JJS and KSH. Can Seon Ho be cast as a conman again?

7
3

Hyeri is one of those actors at whom I always marvel. How does a person stay employed while being completely incompetent at one’s job? (cc Cha Eunwoo, Kim Myungsoo, Suzy, Hwang Jung-eum, and probably many others whom I’m forgetting at the moment)

    2
    1

This is my first time seeing her in action (or lack thereof) but it’s a shame that I know who she is because of her acting criticisms. Every scene she’s in I feel like she’s holding up a neon sign that reads “I’m acting” Such a shame because a more talented actress could have made this particular drama a lot better.

Cha Eun Woo…lol is all I’m saying.

      1

Agree on Hyeri.. and I was hoping she’d get at least lessons from her bf RJY who in my opinion is an excellent actor.

The highlight of my 1N2D marathon this week. I feel like this has happened to everyone at some point in their lives. You know but don’t remember. It’s embarrassing how much this made me laugh though. KSH is such a mood.

I\’ve noticed no one recommends Catch the Ghost to the new Kim Seon Ho fans. I don\’t know if it\’s because of the female lead? I didn\’t mind her as much as other viewers did, for the most part at least. Sure the serial killer plot was kind of meh. But hey why miss out on having Kim Seon Ho on your screen 99% of the time for 16 hours? His character is so much fun and watching him have a crush was entertaining. And when he cries with his mom! Annddd he has this gorgeous dark hair with reddish streaks that for some odd reason just had me with heart eyes the whole time. Great chemistry with MGY btw. So, go! Watch it!

11

I liked Catch the Ghost. It had it’s issues, but it wasn’t bad. Kim Seon Ho was funny and cute in that part and in the end his character and the female lead balanced each other well.

Right? I loved the OTP and how realistically awkward and cute they were. I’m typically not a fan of the overly used “let me put ointment on your injuries” but the one in CTG was so swoony.

I love Kim Seon Ho there but he has little chemistry with Moon Geunyoung IMO.

    1
    0

Oooh!! Same. I think he and MGY had cute chemistry, more soul mates than physical chemistry/attraction. I also noticed his hair too! It was a nice color. I also noticed that his natural melanin shone here, which was really nice.

The cinematography wasn’t like amazing, but I def. think this show is a gem. It’s fun, quirky, warm, and there’s a good mystery/thriller aspect too. I feel like KSH doesn’t talk much about this show, which is a shame b/c he def. shone he can be a leading man through this show.

And yes his scenes with his mom were bitter sweet, but his character though <3 Esp. when he cried, and then the next day, apologized for yelling at her. Aww. People, if you are a fan of his, you've to check CTG out!!

    2
    1

OMGgggg finally someone who loves this show as much as I do. I think @amy1009 was probably the only other beanie who enjoyed it a lot.

But yes! Yes! Yess to everything you said. It wasn’t perfect but I loved it to bits and KSH’s character was a real treat. Oh, and you noticed hair!?!? 😍

      3
      1

Yes I really like it as well! It’s zany but sweet. Only quibble is for Ep 14/15, I feel like we saw less of KSH. But granted that was for telling more of the Ghost/MGY’s twin story/mom side. Although, I do feel like his character here also has a hard family life 🙁

I’ve one more episode to go! I do laugh though b/c when you watch the show, countless women either flirt at him or do heart eyes at him in the show lol. I think the only quibble is I wish there more character stuff than the Ghost stuff, b/c that does feel a tad bit dragged out. Like where was his character by the end of Ep 15 lol?

On hair, lol! I noticed hair and build! He’s also a really fast runner. His running is like Tom Cruise’s expect more leaner. Yeah his hair had some nice auburn highlights action going on. And I loved that we saw his natural skin tone in the show too, compared to Start Up, which was more brighter. Weirdly I preferred the rough/gruff version of KSH here lol 🙂

        1
        1

I live watched this when it was airing so I can’t remember all the details regarding the Ghost plot. Must be time for a rewatch. I just remember the downfall of the serial killer and company felt a bit flat for me. But I did like the closure we get in the finale. I hope you like it! 🙃 Lots of cute and fun included.

KSH in average civilian outfits are my favorite. He’s swoony in suits but his CTG wardrobe is my favorite out of all of his dramas.

          1
          5

I have one more episode to go! Finishing it tonight! The romance was cute, not hot but warm. I def. think that he took extra care to MGY, since this was her comeback since her hiatus after her health scare.

Yeah, he looks great in either formal wear or causal wear. But something about his everyday man/next door guy appeal here was very visually appealing. Although he looks so dashing when his hair is up! Also he definitely bulked up since CTG, it’s almost unfair how attractive he gets every year.

This is something I notice is that he pulls back on his emotions sometimes, or represses it sometimes lol. And you can see it in his body language or facial expression, dunno why but its so hot to me lol!

@soulsearch12 Please let me know how you like it!

I LOVE his hair up the best. Did you see the promo pics for CTG where it’s styled up? I revisit those posters frequently (more than I should tbh) just to marvel at his hairstyle. He looks more mature and swoony.

Can you provide an example in particular? For educational purposes of course. 🤓

Jung-hoon is really great. A really admirable guy, as well as a good father and husband.

Also, re this series of gifs, in addition to metaphorically slapping Jung-hoon by choosing Jo Jung-seok as his role model, Seon-ho also literally hit him with this boomerang! LOL!

Anyway, Seon-ho is basically the maknae in this show, even though he’s not the youngest. He’s so innocent and cute!
