Beanie level: Noble idiot

I see a lot of great and freaking good actresses sidelined for no good reason in K-drama world. So I wonder, how come Shin se-kyung still gets good roles that she obviously can’t pull out?

because she is pretty.. and that holds true for all the non talented guys and gals who keep getting these dramas..

She is preferred as the one perfect to be the FL in SK sageuks. I guess it’s both her visual and the vibe she gives off. She has that beautiful but a bit detached vibe to her which might be seemed desirable for the FL in sageuks.

    1

I haven’t watched many of her dramas, but there might be some truth to your opinion because she was good in “Deep Rooted Tree”. I also liked her in “Run On”.

Actually, her character was the only character I couldn’t really connect to while watching 6 Flying Dragons.

100% of my knowledge of Shin Se-kyung is the 20 minutes of Captivating the King I watched last night, and I was Not Impressed. It was the gender-reveal/bedroom scene, where you would think actors would give it their all. Jo Jung-suk is amazing (of course he is) and she’s mostly kind of blank. “Reserved” would be a kind way of describing it.

Ahn eun-jin can sing!!! Her voice is so beautiful! Please forgive me but I thought all female korean singers sound the same, I’m sorry though. But Ahn eun jin, my God!!

Day 10- Favourite kiss

Shooting stars first kiss. I watched the two of them grow from first friends to an unrequited crush to fierce enemies to lovers. They themselves were not expecting that kiss and the look on their faces showed it. I was not too, I thought they would just confess and meet another day but 😊😊😊 “LOVE IS THE MOMENT ❤️❤️”

Day 10- Your best Villain

Queen Dowager of Under the Queen’s Umbrella. Although the good always wins, her evilness was top notch. She made deposing of royalty looked so easy, she knew the right buttons to touch to make one go crazy. She was just not evil, you could feel the depth of her envy. Her death scene was one of the most cold, chilling and unimaginable I’ve ever seen.

Day 11: Favourite bestie

I could not find one unfortunately, nothing of any onscreen characters’ friendship impressed me.

Day 8- The dramas beanies convinced me to watch and can’t be grateful enough

Two of them, though not of this year. Because this is my first life and One Spring Night
I’m grateful because I enjoyed them although I had fears contemplating One Spring Night after all, the writer ruined Something in the rain for me. But it was okay and refreshing.
Thanks a lot, beanies, you’re the best.

Day 7- The OTP you didn’t think you would adore.

Baek yi-jin and Na Hee-do in 25-21, how can I forget the rainbow bridge scene? I envied them, they were so special that using the word adorable feels less. I could not watch the last episode cuz by the time I went online, the spoilers were all crying 🥺. I could not bear watching them tear apart because their relationship was real to me. I knew I would cry so I did not bother. Anyways, I still loved them, they were unique and 😊🙌.

Day 5- The drama that will always live in your memory

Under the Queen’s Umbrella, I’ve watched Bloody Heart and love it but this drama made Motherhood and it’s ever-withstanding love stood out. The whole ordeal was not because of her revenge, it was because of the love she had for herself and for her family whether concubines or stepchildren. She was a mother, a strong one, though she felt weak and cornered at first, she sprung up and made sure love and justice prevailed.

She knew how to play her cards well and was always on guard. She was a Queen with a difference and an umbrella, sincerely proud to see her children stretching that umbrella to cover her this time. I would forever remember her character afterall she was the Queen with an umbrella.

Day 3- Favourite womance/bromance

In the womance category, nothing pretty much impressed me this year except the friendship between the 2 Fls in Business Proposal. Despite one being rich and the other just scaling by, they loved each other amidst the boundaries and supported themselves.

Bromance: Kim bum and Rain in Ghost Doctor, they were so funny and refreshing to watch. Their bromance saved the show for me and made me forget UEE was on the show!

I was going to go for Ghost doctor too 😊 with the rival players from Love all, play who were used by their future father in laws to prove who was the most loyal as a close second.

Day 2- The Ml I can’t forget

Kim Nam-Gil’s character in Through the Darkness, what a performance!

Is his name Park ji-hoon? I have a problem remembering all the newbies names now. He starred in Weak Hero Class 1 and he was stunning. sincerely stunning, I saved a clip of him smiling for the first time in the drama on my phone. He made me believe the torment in his head that when he smiled, my cheeks nearly exploded

came to drop this little discovery of mine here: “Discovering future Daesang awardees my self”

It’s first started with the Female Antagonist in Penthouse (forgotten her name, so sorry), I watched a clip of the drama on Viki, a scene of when she was faking being crazy at the prison and men! She was really good that I said there’s no way she is not winning the Daesang and she won.

Last year, when 25-21 happened, the scene where Name joo-hyuk’s character confronted Na Hee-do for avoiding him in her school, I think it should be episode 4 or so and the way she replied was exactly what a young girl feeling conflicted like her will do. The way she stretched on the bench before answering him was the mark for me: Daesang worthy mark, and I was right.

Now this year, Queen Im of Under the Queen’s Umbrella is my worthy mark earner and she is a masterpiece. More Daesangs to her shelf. Lee sang-min of Reborn rich should be nominated alongside SJK although SJK hasn’t won my worthy mark yet only LSM. please join me and pray my theory works this time! Thank you

yes, I’m jumping in!!

December 1st- Fl I will never forget

Who else than Kim tae-ri’s character Na hee-do in Twenty-five Twenty-one? Excluding the teary ending, I loved her. I did not relate to her character that much but this was one of the first times that an actress could convince me with her acting. She embraced her character so well that I could not help but marvel. She is 30 but acted like she was 18 throughout. Wonderful!!

I just read through the recap of Reply 1988 episode 18 and found almost 800 comments. Just so you know, it’s the episode Jung-hwan fake confessed his feelings for Deuk-sun. Right now, I don’t know which team I stand for, because what is the use of standing for a team who did not win at the end? 😫 But how much I did love Jung-hwan! He was the most cutest marshmallow I have ever watched.

Surprisingly, I don’t think Team Jung-hwan has healed off the trauma, have we? I have not and decided to relive the beautiful pain I felt for a character whose heart I shared.

4
14

still have a Jung-hwan- sized hole in my heart.

    4
    1

I went into reply fully knowing the end-game and the shipping wars, and becos i love PBG I didn’t really mind. As the story progressed tho, i flip-flopped between the two and maybe rooted for JH a bit more. To me, that fake confession was the worst thing ever! Not only did he not get the girl, he never even got to tell her his true feelings even once. That’s just sad.. so I don’t like that scene.

    2
    2

I dreaded watching that scene again. It was painful. Something tells me Deuk-sun knew he was sincere during that confession.

      3
      1

I think she knew, too, and that’s why she had that frozen look on her face. I liked how they juxtaposed the scene of Jung-bong waiting at the coffee shop and looking up each time the bell on the door chimed because he was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his date and how they showed Deuk-sun looking at the door each time it chimed (even during Jung-hwan’s confession) to show that her mind was occupied eagerly awaiting the arrival of Teak. I used to hurt more for Jung-hwan. I love his character, but we get to see so much more of his heart than Deuk-sun does. I keep thinking that if he’d been nicer to her to taken the chance to be softer with her in the car ride together on the way to meet the others at the bar, I would have felt worse for him. There they are, just the two of them, talking about old times and favorite music… he could have been sweet to her, but instead he is harsh and corrects her constantly. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to spend my life married to someone who picks on every little thing and can’t be soft with me. She doesn’t know how sweet he is with is mom, because he never let her see that side of himself.

sometimes misunderstandings can be such a boon..
when i watched this series, it had just ended its run. And, i knew that there is a “who’s the husband” game in this as well.

In the drama, this is what was happening… DS liked SW, had a crush on him, got rejected, moved onto JH.. had a crush on him.. looked like got rejected.. I honestly thought she would keep going through these cycles with each one of the four friends 😛

While the clues in ep 1-3 were fairly obvious (in my view), i had all the more reasons to believe that twist ending means genuine twist ending – until ep 2/3 my very real fear was that the end game is her and the fourth friend (with specs, tutor’s child, the singer )… ha ha.. so i was quite grounded in terms of no matter whom she ends with

( lucky for me my guess was right)

I find comfort that RJY and Hyeri are together irl 😅 buuut that does not lessen the pain I felt for Junghwan

I heard others said it did, but I was more attached to them in the drama than IRL. Their characters was so fleshed out that there’s absolutely no way you won’t feel something for them.

Rewatching Reply 1988 seemed different. I watched it for the first time 2 years ago and it seems the more I mature, the more I appreciate the drama. Reply 1988 is the best Gold out of all other K-dramas out there.

Ah, lest I forget, watching each episode and reading it’s recaps has never felt this better.

It’s almost 2022, but I’ll feel guilty if I fail to appreciate all the beanies here. Let me tell you a short story about my journey here.

The first recap I read here was Lie to Me, due to some personal reasons I stopped reading them but I never forgot the name of the website. When I became really immersed into k-dramas, I remembered this place and came in the days of TKEM. Still, I was unregistered, you know why? Because I felt inferior, seeing all the beautiful and well-written comments on every drama episode made me felt I had no knowledge to compare with the Gurus I met here. Slowly and slowly, I got registered when The Tale of the Nine Fox was airing and only started commenting with Love Alarm 2. My comments were still very short but little by little, I learnt a lot about dramas from you guys and reading my comments from where I started to today, I can’t help but feel joy right here in my heart. I want you guys to know that your comments made me mature and see the world and humans through dramas.

I love you all and I want to celebrate my Joy and beautiful memories with you today. Thank you very much for using your thoughts and kind words to touch my heart. Much Love from Nigeria. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Awww i was a lurker for years & started posting when DB was going thru a change. I think DB was my first ever drama site, before that i never knew k dramas could be discussed with so much depth & insight. Here’s to more dramas and posts in 2022 🥳

Aww, such a lovely story c: And so relatable!
I knew about DB in 2016 because my sister showed me recaps and comments of Cheese in the Trap, but I’m not that good at expressing my thoughts or writing in english so I didn’t participate until last year.

Thank you for sharing your journey, it’s always nice to relate to someone. ^^

FREESTYLE: FEMALE CHARACTERS THAT CHANGED ME

MR QUEEN taught me to be free, be it an introvert or an extrovert, one should space out her wings properly and never close them up because people around me think negatively of her personality. I learnt to derive Joy from the woman I am, be it whatever I choose to be. I love Bong Hwan for never letting anyone even though they may be higher than her bring her down emotionally or physically.

TRUE BEAUTY taught me self-love and confidence. It taught me to derive strength from my weakness and turn that strength to a rock that even bullies can’t push. It showed how strength is beautiful and when used properly makes a woman shine.

VINCENZO’s main Female character was a woman whom I thought was Loud and lack composure in the first episode. But I realized on the long run that I was wrong about her. She was bold, relentless, dogged, selfless, and used her personality to set things right in her life. I loved her for this.

She never tried to change her man as most dramas would have done. Even though they were close, she always respected his personal space. No wonder Vincenzo fell for her, she was different from the stereotype women our tradition taught us to be and she never did mind you thinking she is different.

TIME TO GO FREESTYLE!!

The women depicted in k-dramas this year are the best I’ve ever seen. TVN has been the main anchor of this beautiful depiction.

Throughout 2021, we’ve seen Mr Queen, True Beauty, Vincenzo, Hometown CHA-CHA-CHA, Happiness, Dali and the Cocky Prince, Our Beloved Summer and Red Sleeve Cuff give us strong women that I can’t stop praising.

The culture I grew up in taught me that women are meant to be calm, quiet, moderate, slow to anger and only speak when necessary. But surprisingly, I’m different, I can’t describe myself that much but I’ll say I’m an Extrovert and a woman who stands for what is Right even though she is alone. So far, the people around me made me seem stupid and loud but watching these women characters this year has made my wings very strong.

I’ll give details about how they made my wings strong tomorrow.

Day 21: That cute little drama

LAW SCHOOL. Excepting the Law grammar and the Courtroom part, (although I’ll have to say, I enjoyed Yeon soo’s fight for justice), the “romance” was really really cute. I loved Bora nonna in Reply 1988 but I remember cementing that love with mortar in Law School. Kim bum is a chemistry magician, even his gazes were heavenly. It’s was a pity and a shame that they slept on the romance part. I mean, what harm will it do if they just allow them be a couple?

I spent 16 hours of my life waiting and waiting for the romance to be realized. But at the end of it all, 🥺🥺😫😫. I’ll never forgive the writer.

Come to think of it beanies, can anyone please give me Kim bum’s agency contacts? What are they doing with my oppa all this while? He can act, every time I see him on screen, I always remember that episode on TONTF where he was able to overcome his fears. His acting in that episode was top-notch. I still can’t believe he is still stuck on Second lead roles. I need a word with that agency’s chairman.

Day 20: The shirtless scene she is so grateful for

Lee Jun-ho in that bath scene was absolutely 😵😱😱🤢. How can he be hawwt and sexy at the same time? I don’t blame Deuk-im for literally jumping into him, if I were to be in her shoes, I’m not only jumping but proposing to him right there and then.

For your information everyone, the only physical features of the opposite sex that makes me go crazy is the Abs and so far Chris Hemsworth and Ji Chang wook have been doing that for me. Lee Jun-ho is officially on this list now.

I’m sorry, I’m still a newbie so I still don’t know how to insert screenshots here with a mobile phone. I’m sure most beanies here are Red Sleeve fans, because those abs are going to live in my head rent-free.

14
13

On my fan wall, I noticed there’s a limit to words I can post; 200 characters. But I’ve seen that’s it’s different for others whose posts are lengthy. Is there a reason why? Is it due to beanie level?

2
7

I had the same question/problem before. It’s simply a glitch. The way to go around it is to write your lengthy post somewhere else (ex: Word) and copy-paste it on your fan wall.

Note 1: Don’t modify your post after pasting it or else the character limit will take effect.

Note 2: Don’t use keyboard shortcut on your computer to copy-paste (ex: Control+c and Control+v). Use your mouse ->right click

It should work if you do it like this.

    5
    1

Thanks a lot. For your second note, I’m using a mobile Android for this. How do I go about it?

      0
      3

I’m using Keep for writing the notes 🙂

        1
        0

There should not be a problem with the copy-paste on the phone. Try simply copy-pasting like you usually do and it should work.

That note 2 is really only for computer/laptops/ipads with keyboards.

        1
        1

I usually write my post in text then cut/paste. But yes, make sure it is how you want it before hitting post.
