@attiton @ceciliedk @hopefulromantic @seeker @darkcc

I caught up with the premiere and it was a quite chore to get through the episode because it was your usual makjang set up, but the ending dessert tasted delicious and I am in.

Do you guys want to jump on this or wait out for something else while we make up the rules and stuff?

I am a bit like ... if everybody are having fun, I want to join, too! On the other hand, I am watching Nam-soon, which is maybe a work of genius, or maybe just actually bad enough for everyone to facepalm collectively ... and I want to watch Matchmaker, Good day to be a Dog, maybe catch up on Dearest, if it is not too terribly sad, and also, maybe the watermelon one is right up my alley ... So I'd like to hear everybody before I join a pact to watch a drama that everybody agrees is really bad. I am in two minds ... or five or more minds.

Lookout for "Marry My Husband" as it will be as good if the script writers and actors perform just as well. Looking at you PMY.

Based on two-episode sample size, I’d say this drama is self-aware and is having fun with it — winking a bit at its makjang-ness. So it’s as “bad” as it wants to be.

I couldn't watch Dearest as I could see it was going to be really sad. I see that it's rating through the roof, so I'll give it a go after the New Year when things are warmer and brighter.

There's a Danish writer who's in the middle of an ambitious book series that involves time travel and quite a bit of violence. I have been slowly figuring out (through the first 4x500 pages) that people are getting revenge on each other for things they haven't done yet, in some sad evil spiral of accidents and hurt. Or rather than spiral, a celtic trinity knot.

What’s the name of the series if you don’t mind?

"Spektrum" by Nanna Foss. Each book is called after a group of stars "Leoniderne", "Ursiderne", etcetera. I tried to see if they were translated, but I can't see that they are. Each book is written from the perspective of different main character, and we are waiting *very* impatiently for the perspective of a blind boy ... who seem to have been there at earlier times in the lives of at least one of the other's.

This is based on webtoon which is not yet completed, so this can go in two directions and based on recent Kdrama track record of adaptations, this has a 100% chance of speeding towards the dead end and crashing

As @ceciliedk says, i’m happy to try for the fun of it with everyone else.
Do we just… do we just post our Beanies rant-caps on our own walls every 2 episodes and tag each others? 🫘🌱✍🏻

I think that this should be as lightweight as possible—and I like @darkcc’s plan.

We don’t need to organize further, per se, we can just vow to either post something directly to the Fan Wall each week or simply promise contribute commentary on someone else’s weekly Fan Wall post.

Let’s give each other ample 🫘Beansprouts🌱 for making outrageous commentary! I wanna match the makjang with our moxie!! 😉

Everyone who reads this is welcome to join in on this “FF-Watch for Fun!”

Surprised by how fun the first two episodes were after we finished establishing how miserable the FL’s life was. I liked the allusions to its own genre — “Do you think you’re in a soap opera?” Her family is awful, but his is less so (other than mom, of course). ML is surprisingly considerate and seems smitten (wonder when we’ll learn about their past connection). I wonder what the date on her wrist means … is there a time limit for this second chance?

I caught a flash on her wrist but didn't get a clear glimpse. Is it a countdown for 49 days.
Is she in coma in a future timeline and can waken on if she completes her revenge by then.

Solid theory, especially since we left her in hospital in first timeline. Will have to see if it reappears and is counting down.

Maybe the ML in the present timeline has to come and give her a true love's kiss to wake her from her past life coma.
He does fancy himself as a Prince Charming apparently!!

@emsel can't wait to watch!
Pass on the 🍿 🍿

0

Ooooh, I like that!

And he must have something for which he wants revenge, too - why else would he find her revenge-seeking proposal so irresistibly hot?

4

The flash on her wrist was the date 2023.07.20, what I believe was the date she was in the accident and exactly a year from the time she was transported to. Not sure what the significance of it was, to be honest. Maybe she has to complete her revenge in exactly a year?

8

Required fields are marked *

Sounds legit. 👌
She goes back just in time to "stop" the wedding. That is some perfect timing.
Guess we will know more if the date display changes.

One year seems too long for revenge but dramaland watches have their own timekeeping so 🤷 wait and watch is the way to go.

I’m not too familiar with makjang dramas, but I like some of the elements here so far: ML not tsundere, his grandma’s humble background, FL adoption isn’t a secret, FL’s bestie is a reporter. Could make for an entertaining mix.

All the points you mentioned make it different from a "regular" drama.
It has all the good stuff of a 50 episode weekender stuffed into a 12 episodes.
Hope it stays good.

Totally agree! I got more 'FL takes control of her life' vibes in the opening week of this drama than in the current weekender where it doesn't even look to be in sight... I know it will have a different approach because of its episode count but still the contrast is stark when watched in the same weekend.

6

@SP2022 good catch! So very true, the contrast makes LYOL almost unbearable to watch. I love makjang - as much as any true blue K-drama addict - but this speed is dizzying and refreshing. I like. 👍

4

It's going at superspeed as many scenes left out from the original story.

2

@Nomorelisa I guess there is only so much story they can fit in 12 episodes. 😀 As long as they have a semblance of coherence, I'm not too picky.

4

Makjang on speed is exactly it. No more FL suffering for episode after episode. Here she got into her villain phase in the very first one! Helps that her husband has such a punchable face. And Sang Hoon is so swoony! 😍

I started My Secret Romance long ago but dropped it. However, Sang Hoon left an impression and Noble, My Love seems like my kind of show 🤘🏻

3

I am going to disagree with the acting being weak. These people are all well experienced in makjang (you gotta see their previous dramas) and reason the acting looks mediocre is because they haven't turned on the craze to high flame. It takes special kind of skills to act in makjang and make the audience believe that you are truely a deranged character.

8

I'm going to take your word for it that Sung Hoon in particular is just holding back and that he indeed has something in reserve. When Yi-joo asks Do-guk if he's ever seen his life flash before his eyes, and he says "How would I have seen that? I'm not dead," he does a nice little series of expressions that (a) are a dead giveaway that he has been dead and (b) seem to have used up all the expressions he has for both episodes. I hope he restocks before next week.

2

I haven't seen the second episode yet, but that white truck scene was a classic. Two for one! I also liked the evil adoptive Mom unplugging all the medical support equipment, and then having her assistant plug it back in. Good planning! Plus, there was the conclusion of episode one, the FL ripping her prospective wedding dress up to the upper thigh, to show it was "no more Ms. Nice Girl" anymore!

Those scenes AND a discussion of photorealism in art?!! This is shaping up to be something special. Can it keep the momentum of the first episode? Maybe in her reincarnation she can start working in a bold "action painting" style , to complement her new vengeful persona?

I just finished the second episode. Not quite as good as the first in terms dramatic impact and art criticism, but still some fine moments, especially with the hotel room and the instantly smitten ML who said something I've often thought about kdrama actresses--"you are too thin--you should eat decently and put on some pounds." In fact, the only thing I didn't like was that the FL lost her new attitude and refused to eat the vichyssoise at the fancy restaurant, even when it was clear her marriage plan was underway. But the kiss in the park made up for it, so I hope she'll get her revenge mojo back.

Given the quick pace in these first two episodes, I'm afraid that this is going to be one of those that can't maintain itself through to the end. In the meantime, though, I'm liking that its not taking itself too seriously.

During the first episode, especially during the gallery scenes, I kept thinking maybe I just shouldn't watch adaptations. Maybe the original webtoon is too ingrained in my mind that I can't see this for its own merits.

But I still continued on to episode 2 and I was left thinking about just how much of the webtoon is gonna be covered if we're already at this point. I mean I get it; it's a relatively short drama and the whole point is these characters get married but still, it was like breakneck speed haha.

I wondered if it was shot weird. Something about the pacing or editing seemed weird to me.

I love me some strong female characters so I'm already liking his mother and grandmother.

For the rest, I'm kinda surprised to see so many famous actors in Kdrama world. But in the same time, makjangs are doing pretty well in Korea. It's funny to see Jin Ji-Hee in this kind of role after seeing her a child actress. But after Penthouse, I guess she decided to go full makjang.

Ooh, I wasn’t sure for most of the first episode, but episode two was solid over-the-top fun. I love that the drama ended the FL’s sad-sack candy phase so quickly (LYOL writers, are you listening?) and gave her a 180 change waking into juicy vengeful mode. Character-schmaracter. This is makjang! I don't even need to fast-forward (tho ofc I did), the whole plot is on breakneck speed. I’m keeping my fingers crossed I last longer than I did with Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce).

All right, I should know better than to ask logical questions, but can anyone tell me why did the mother even adopt her?

An aside, I love that GRANNY was the CARPENTER who built up the construction conglomerate!

All right, I should know better than to ask logical questions, but can anyone tell me why did the mother even adopt her?

Same question, possible answers:
1. She was adopted as noblesse oblige to improve their company image
2. She is the first wife's daughter and her hidden identity will be revealed later
3. FL's dad adopted her because he made some promise
4. The evil mom wanted someone to take care of her only daughter and being the cheapskate, decided to adopt a kid who was desperate to not get abandoned
5. The evil mom wanted someone to please her at all times because she was getting shunned everywhere as a loan shark.

Ep 2 romance scenes gave me My Sweet Romance vibes😍. I was giddy throughout the ML and FL interactions and the ending kiss was perfect....muah😘. I can't help but giggle at the camera focus of Sung Hoon's big hand grabbing the tiny waist of Yoo Min😂😂

The ML's family looks fun because they don't appear that bad. On the other hand, the evil mom and sister are not vile enough. I want them to go rougue so that the FL can trash them because the FL is so cool when she is planning and executing her revenge.

Seeing all the comments I was tempted! First ep was like too much.. way too extra and OTT. A drama I would never watch. But here I am... second episode was good!! The leads have great chemistry! Lot of swoony moments. And also a lot of tender moments between them.
And that kiss!! YES!!

Fast track makjang is definitely fun! Graceful family was a little bit more muted than this and this feels like I am watching a weekender in 10x mode without the side arcs. Not complaining.

Sung Hoon's clothes are hideous but his voice makes up for everything. And FL is gorgeous.

I like the dynamics of the leads in episode 2. It feels like Seo Do Guk knows Yi Joo before they officially met in episode 2. A childhood connection perhaps?
Also that money for breakfast made me laugh. Way to go, Yi Joo! Do Guk seems to be a good guy with an interesting bunch of women related to him. I am looking forward to Yi Joo's interactions with them.
Also that flower ring was very pretty for a placeholder. Much better than what I have seem in other dramas - paper and candy ring. But did they just kiss after she barfed? I can't shake it ofd my head. It was a hot kiss though.
This drama was not in my planned keeper dramas. The second episode peaked my interest enough to add it on my watch list.

Should Perfect Marriage Revenge keep this up it's going to go up in my list of ✅✅✅ dramas.

Thanks to the recaps, I made the wise decision to not watch episode 1. So I dived straight into episode 2 and it was a blast.

One thing that mystefies me about these kind of Yi-joo in this particular setting - this particular niche - is that most times the Yi-joos turn out to have wealthy parents. And from the way they were hampering on her not knowing her biological parents, I can say that my guess is not far from right.

The chemistry is top notch, their visuals together are serving. Sunghoon is one of those actors I totally forget about until I watch him in something and I'm like "damn I remember these feelings ". I don't remember where I've watched the FL, but I like her enough, in that she doesn't annoy me, and surprisingly that's a hard criteria sometimes with actresses (for me)

Rewatched Episode 1 and missed a couple things.

Episode 1: Missed that DoGuk called YooRa as YooRa, HungJye and SeHyeok, were pitying YiJoo as she lay in her hospital bed after the car crash. This is just before HungJye goes in to her evil rant as YiJoo lay dying. YooRa goes into elevator, presumably on the phone with DoGuk, but how's she gonna' talk on a cell phone in an elevator?

Also missed Sex-retary Kim calling 'Chairman' (is that halabeoji?) and then placing the phone next to YiJoo's ear just before he replaces plugs to YiJoo's medical equipment.

I think these phone calls will come back in the future of the past in which YiJoo has landed, right? ... if that makes any sense (?).

Episode 2: Missed SeHyeok saying his father had lost all his money in stock market before dying, mother saddled with debt, while begging on his knees to YiJoo; Koreans count in 7's, rather than 5's as we do in the U.S. (wall in YiJoo's bedroom with days counted alone in room);

Episode 3 - We find out in Episode 3 what Chairman / Halabeoji said over the phone via Secretary Kim to YiJoo on her death bed.

But we still haven't found out why DoGuk was calling YooRa while YiJoo lay on her death bed. Also, is Secretary Kim working for the Chairman / halabeoji or Jeong Hye? I cannot figure him out.
