This year writing up an end of year list for anything just seems like too much effort. I wasn’t going to write up a best of music one, but these songs brought me such happiness I wanted to share them. Plus, I love reading the lists that Beanies have posted. It’s always fun to see if there is a artist in common, but a different song choice.
Not going to go too in depth or count them out, just a list of the 2021 one songs that kept me company. Apologies for the long ramble.
SHINee: Marry You, Don’t Call Me, Area.
SHINee was just a highlight. This CB was just the perfect dose of serotonin.
Taemin: Advice & Strings.
Advice was dramatic, catchy, and impeccable. Perfect way for him to leave us before coming back to the next part of his career. Can not wait to see what he will do next.
Taemin and potentially SHINee being on a hiatus until he returns will leave a hole for sure. Maybe a certain Kwon Ji-yong will decide to help fill that void for me.
But there is always Key. His Hate That & Saturday Night have been staples recently.
Epik High: Rosario and Acceptance Speech
B.I: illa illa & Stay
AKMU: Nakka & Everest.
This album is so great and know I’ll be listening to it through 2022 and having new favorites from it.
Just saw Betty White passed. That one hurts a little. As people are pointing out she had a long life, but lived it in a way that feels too short for the rest of us.
It’s such a wonderful show, but as far as I know it’s never been legally available to watch anywhere – if it were, I think more folks would discover it.
Finally watched the first ep of You Are My Sprimg.
I knew about the serial killer, but still wasn\’t expecting it to be that creepy. Going to keep watching though, just not in the middle of the night
I wish I had an ear for languages. Especially with a genre that has different types of speech. But also when I see videos like this.Eric stops and Compliments Woodz on his speaking 2 or 3 times, you can see he is really impressed by it. It would be fun to hear what he hears.
He’s got good language skills, but besides that he is so articulate! I really enjoy listening to people as young as him expressing themselves fluently, maybe it’s because I’m a teacher 😂
I already loved Woodz’s songs, but after watching the interview I started seeing him as a real artist
Received my book planner from Little Inklings Design. It is almost too much as I do not want to add stress to my reading, but it is lovely. Also very happy it has a space to list dramas watched because I usually do not keep track.
I really don’t think airing snowdrop is a good idea. I mean, come on, we’ve had successful representations of this painful event over and over again in dramaland. A notable mention will be Youth of May, Knetizens were just quiet and supported the drama meaning there was no distortions.
Sponsors pulling out and Petitions getting up to 200k simply means there’s something wrong with the drama. Either they explain the drama to ease the suspicious minds of their viewers or they watch all their hard work hit the mud.
I\’m listening to a new to me podcast called Daebak! A Kdrama podcast. Basically each ep seems to be a round table discussion and breakdown of a drama. I\’ve listened to and liked the My Ahjussi and Coffee Prince eps and now listening to the My Lovely Sam Soon ep.
They are talking about about the separation and time skip at the end and how it is such a common trope in K dramas.
One of the hosts brought up a point that they saw online about this trope. That, \”Korea suffers from a cultural trauma around separation.\”
I\’ll admit I never thought about that and now has me thinking about this trope more.
Somewhere I read that even childhood connection is linked to this trauma. It’s a way to say: “We were together, then we were separated, but in the future we will be together again.”
That is interesting and heartbreaking.
It’s making me think of Her Private Life and the childhood connection and separation that was so convoluted in the drama.
There is a podcast I listen to called Fated Mates that focuses on romance books. The hosts this season have a series they are calling Trailblazer episodes. It\’s where they want to record the voices and stories of the people who helped make and shape the romance industry.
I listened to the Beverly Jenkins one earlier this evening and it is wonderful.
Now I\’m partway through the ep with Vincent Virga the author who wrote Gaywyck. I don\’t think I\’ve heard of this trilogy before, but it is the first m/m Gothic romance.
It is a really great conversation so far. He drops some great names and the stories are fun, charming, and also heartbreaking. It\’s a nice look into 70s publishing in New York too. Telegrams!
Anyway if anyone likes podcasts and likes listening to authors talk about the process of writing to publishing their works, especially from the 70s, 80s, and 90s I\’d recommend this series of episodes.

None of this surprises me, however it does surprise me that my top song was not Advice. It was my number two.
But I think my top song was because at the beginning of the year I needed something that was just FUN!
First time hearing this! 🤣 Love their swag
PS: Advice is one of my songs of the year too. Pure art. And the lyrics, dang! Felt that in my bones this year
Omg 😆😆😆 GD reminds me of in Little Women where Jo comments that Mr Brooke dances like “a grasshopper in a fit” 🤣. (At least, that’s how I remember it.)
I just looked at Dramas Over Flowers 2021 kdrama list. I\’ve only finished 7 current dramas.Which is such a small number and yet more than I thought. Lately I want to watch all the dramas, but for most of the year I\’ve only watched one or two current ones at a time at a time.
I could finish Nevertheless, but not sure I want to right now. At some point I do want to finish the handful of dramas I stalled on that were not really a drop.
Do think I am going to start She Would Never Know this weekend and maybe start and finish You Are My Spring before the year is done.
I think I will make thse my to be watched for this last month. It leaves room the Japanese dramas I\’ve been watching and maybe Nobody Knows too as a nice break from all the romance, but still has characters and a relationship at the core
Every once in awhile I imagine a drama pairing that I\’d like to see.
I\’d love a romcom with Gong Yoo and Park Min Young. One where they can just be super charismatic and charming with good banter. That quick back and forth type of banter.
I was just saying this to my family a few days ago. I’m really intrigued who my top artist will be. I can’t even guess for mine because I’ve been obsessed over several songs throughout the year.
My Spotify is the one that I mostly use when playing music for my kids on our stereo so I think there is a strong likelihood The Wiggles will heavily feature – although there is a possibility Henry will take the win as my two year old LOVES It’s You and will listen to it nonstop given a chance. My own listening cannot compete.
