Rooftop Prince: Episode 18

So much unintentional comedy in this episode, where you just have to laugh at the disconnect between what was meant and what you actually feel. I guess the alternative would be to get aggravated, but I prefer laughing, even if I wasn’t meant to. After all, it doesn’t matter so much why I’m entertained, as long as I am, right? And really, isn’t that what performance art is all about?

EPISODE 18 RECAP

Having overheard Se-na’s comment and deduced that the dynamic duo (dynamic duds, more like) were behind Grandma’s death, Yi Gak punches Tae-mu. They grapple for a bit, then Yi Gak punches him again. Ah, this drama’s double-smackdown can be so satisfying.

Yi Gak accuses Tae-mu of killing grandma, calling him a liar and murderer (ooh, dangerous words to repeat—they echo Impostor No. 1’s accusation—even if he’s in Tae-yong guise right now). Tae-mu is actually a much better liar when he’s acting in defense of Se-na, and he fights back… only to get a third punch to the face. Yi Gak vows to reveal the crime and make him pay.

Yi Gak returns to the hospital, this time to see the real Tae-yong, who’s still comatose. He apologizes for not being able to protect Grandma in Tae-yong’s stead, thinking, “I have committed a huge sin against you.” He vows to punish Grandma’s killers, then beg for his forgiveness.

I suppose there’s nothing wrong in giving Yi Gak even more motivation to bring down the baddies with Grandma’s death, but for the fact that he has plenty of motivation already. You know, the attempted murder (Tae-yong), the cover-up, the take-over plot, the other attempted murder (Park-ha), and now the new murder? C’mon drama, three episodes left! Focus!

Park-ha meets Yi Gak at their favorite tree, and he offers a few encouraging words about her finding her mother, and noting that the relationship mirrors their Joseon counterparts. Park-ha’s reaction is conflicted, though, since it’s a bittersweet discovery to have made so late, and she cries a little.

Yi Gak steps behind her to embrace her, only to find that his arms go right through Park-ha—he’s fading again. Eek! This is his first experience with the phenomenon, since the first time was with the ducklings, and the second time only Park-ha noticed.

He stares at his translucent body disbelievingly, trembling in horror. When Park-ha turns to face him, he’s back to his solid self and she wonders at his shocked expression. He regains his composure and tells her nothing is wrong, but walks away feeling spooked.

Park-ha catches up to him, and this time he admits that something’s wrong with him—that he couldn’t hold her because he’d faded out. She knows what he means, and asks, “You saw yourself disappearing?”

He’s upset that she didn’t tell him when she saw it, but she says tearily that she couldn’t bring herself to. He reaches out to touch her again, but he hovers over her shoulder, afraid that he might not be able to. When his hand makes contact, he breathes in relief and pulls her to him. They stand there for a long while, holding each other.

They puzzle it out together; Yi Gak supposes this is a precursor to his return to Joseon. It’s a thought that makes Park-ha rueful, and he replies, “I think the reason I came here was to meet you.” His reasoning is simplistic, though sweet: that it’s because the only thing he has done here was to fall for her.

Park-ha reminds him that he has to solve the princess’s murder, but he says, “I want to use my remaining time here for you.” But there’s still Grandma’s death to solve as well, and he sighs at the lack of time.

Yi Gak returns to his ducklings, who report their findings. The police suspect more to the death than a mere accident, and are investigating.

The most pressing goal right now is to find evidence to pin Tae-mu for the crime, and Yi Gak wants to get it before the police, so he can punish Tae-mu himself. Er. That’s admirable and all, but I’m pretty sure the police are perfectly capable of this one—don’t mess with their investigation!

Grandma’s lawyer addresses the family regarding the upcoming will reading, which will leave the entire company to Tae-yong. Talk about a transparent plot device—you gather the family now to tell them to gather again later, so they can hear the reading of the will, which you disclose here anyway? What is even the point, other than to give us a plot conflict to fill out an episode? I’m trying not to roll my eyes here, but the drama’s really starting to lose steam.

The will’s contents are unsurprising, but really, Grandma’s tunnel-vision love for Tae-yong is starting to get annoying. Duh, there’s a reason everyone else is dissatisfied, when you can’t get over your blood-line purity bullshit and only leave an inheritance for the one person who shares your genetic line! Sheesh.

But wait! There’s a provision: That if Tae-yong doesn’t show up for the reading, the company goes to Tae-mu. Ruh-roh. Lordy, Grandma, were you blind, or just stupid? In her defense, the will was drafted while Tae-yong was still missing, and the lawyer points out that the clause is moot since Tae-yong is sitting right here. Oh, so that tidbit served no purpose other than to Give Tae-mu Ideas? Trust me, he doesn’t need any more of those.

Tae-mu and his father leave the reading fuming helplessly. It’s a will, and without a valid reason to protest it, there’s nothing they can do to prevent Tae-yong from taking over.

A reason, you say? Why, that’s nothing a good mastermind can’t invent. Tae-mu lands on his recent fight with Tae-yong, and now those words belatedly sink in: Yi Gak’s accusation that he’s a murderer and a liar. Arg! I knew that would come back to bite him. This tips Tae-mu off that Impostor No. 1 is also Impostor No. 2, and he goes looking for proof of the hunch.

He replays the video taken from the hospital room when Tae-yong “awoke” from his coma, and sees something he missed earlier—the way Yi Gak hid his hand from sight. The couple ring he’s trying to conceal isn’t very visible onscreen, but it’s a suspicious gesture and it gives Tae-mu confirmation that something is up.

A detective comes to Se-na’s door to ask questions regarding Grandma’s death. Gulp.

Tae-mu goes to Grandma’s house, where Tae-yong’s car is parked. Opening it (why do people not lock their car doors?!), he plants a bag of cash and a plane ticket (in Tae-yong’s name) in the armrest compartment.

Yi Gak mulls over the case in his mind, so distracted that Park-ha teases him to get his attention. As they walk down the street, he sees a news report about the helpfulness of car black boxes in accidents. This gives him an idea, since he recalls seeing traces of that accident in front of the house—the same one that Se-na had passed by on her exit from the house.

That gives them a lead, and they canvass various neighborhood auto shops asking about a recent accident. They get multiple nos, but one mechanic recalls doing repairs a couple days ago, and that sends them to talk to the appropriate driver, who confirms that the accident happened in that neighborhood. The only hitch is that the car belongs to a relative who lives quite a distance away, in Gwangju.

That puts them in a good mood, and they plan to head down right away. But on their way home, they’re stopped by a detective—the same one who spoke with Se-na—who asks if he’s the “real Tae-yong” and then orders him brought in on suspicion of Grandma’s death.

Wut? You can arrest people based on a tip now?! ‘Cause I’m pretty sure they can’t have any real proof on Tae-yong, even with that bag of cash. This drama, I SWEAR.

The cop sits Yi Gak down and asks smugly where the real Tae-yong is. He plops the stack of hundred-dollar bills down and accuses him of faking an identity, entering the house, killing Grandma, stealing company money, and preparing to flee to the States. Wow, what deductive powers you have; I suppose if those conclusions aren’t going to jump to you, you go to them. Garrrr, you’re killin’ me here.

Yi Gak insists he’s never seen this cash before and the cop laughs in his face. Tae-mu is called in, and naturally he isn’t going to be his cousin’s alibi, so instead he lies and says he was with Se-na. Convenient, for them to corroborate each other’s stories.

After the cop leaves, Tae-mu tells Yi Gak that it’ll all be over tomorrow, so he can sit here in jail till the will is read, leaving the company to Tae-mu. Twirls evil mustache.

Yi Gak is shut in jail, and he protests that Tae-mu’s the real bad guy. The cop just handcuffs him and threatens to charge him with obstructing justice if he doesn’t shut up.

Tae-mu takes Se-na out for a fancy dinner, telling her to cheer up since everything is almost at its end. She’s a lot more worried than he is, but that makes sense since she was always smarter than him.

Yi Gak sits in jail overnight, and with just one hour till will-reading time, he begs the cops to just let him out for an hour, promising to return. Ha, the only thing that would make these cops less competent is if they complied. It’s too bad Yi Gak couldn’t have a convenient fading spell right now, to let him slip through the bars; for once he could use it to his advantage.

At home, Park-ha catches a glimpse of Yi Gak’s embroidered handkerchief, and this time she notices something they’d all missed: In the bottom corner are initials. Just as Tae-yong’s postcard featured the hangul initials for his name, this set is for Bu-yong’s.

She visits him in jail, finding him dejected at his inability to do anything. She assures him that the baddies won’t get away with it, then takes out the handkerchief to show him what she noticed. He sees that they’re Bu-yong’s initials, and realizes that Hwa-yong lied when she passed it off as her handiwork.

Yi Gak reaches out a hand to the glass as if to touch the embroidery… but it goes right through. Aww, yeah! Hurry, jump! Why are you hesitating? Move!

And then, he disappears right in front of Park-ha’s eyes, fading entirely this time. Yi Gak finds himself rematerializing outside, in the hallway. They’re still in hostile territory with cops all around, so Park-ha grabs his arm and they vamoose out of there.

Once safely outside, Yi Gak takes off running. The family waits nervously with three minutes left on the clock, while the evil ones laugh to themselves. Yi Gak tears inside the building, racing against the clock, while the executor begins the proceedings.

Seeing that Tae-yong is not here, the executor proceeds to the second-case scenario, naming Tae-mu the inheritor. Tae-mu takes the forms to stamp his seal, and just seconds before he puts ink to paper, Yi Gak bursts through the doors.

Tae-mu declares that he’s a phony, but Yi Gak points out that if he’s a phony, he wouldn’t have been able to make the proceedings. (Being in jail and all.) Tae-mu has no rebuttal, and so Tae-yong is named the new CEO after all.

Pyo Taek-soo congratulates him on outwitting their foes, and advises him to kick Tae-mu out of the company right away. Yi Gak asks to be allowed to take care of Tae-mu (“I have an idea”), and asks Taek-soo to take over as administrator of the company, naming him President Pyo.

The ducklings have taken over the task of tracking down that black box, and bring it back to Yi Gak for review. What he sees has him gaping in shock, and he summons Yong-sool with an ominous voice.

Next thing we know, Tae-mu is walking out of the Home & Shopping building, and Yong-sool grabs him from behind and shoves him into a car. The ducklings drag him in to face Yi Gak, who orders him to call Se-na here.

Tae-mu growls, “You think you can get away with this?” Yong-sool literally slaps him upside the head. HA. I love how relatively wimpy this use of force is, and yet it’s perfectly adequate to subdue Tae-mu. See, not everyone needs ice trucks and yachts to do their bidding for them. “Call Hong Se-na here,” Yi Gak commands again.

Cut to: Se-na and Tae-mu, sitting in the hot seat together. HAHA. I don’t think it was supposed to be a funny transition given the dark lighting, ominous voices, and heavy music cues, but the smash cut is hilarious.

They replay the black box footage, and now we get to see it too. It has a clear view of Grandma’s front gate, with Se-na walking out of it clutching the stolen laptop.

Se-na’s already shaking in fear, but she summons her composure to argue that there’s nothing strange about her leaving the house. Yi Gak paints the picture more exactly, saying that she left the house at the very same time that Grandma died.

Tae-mu claims that projected times of death can be off by an hour or two, and tries to leave. Yong-sool sits him right back down. Yi Gak tells them what he wants: They are to mete out their own punishments by resigning their jobs and returning the money they stole (to frame him with). And I go, Whaaaa? That’s your bright idea? C’mon, and here I thought you were gonna get all badass up in this hizzy.

He does tack on the warning that if they don’t, he’ll make them feel the agony of dismemberment. But unless that’s through actual dismemberment, I’m thinking it’s not much of a threat.

He looks particularly at Se-na—who seems closer to the breaking point—as he says this is the last chance he’s giving them, and that they don’t have much time.

Once they’ve left, Se-na anxiously asks Tae-mu what to do. Her face was caught on camera and she’s on the hook—what now? Tae-mu glowers and vows, “I’m going to kill that bastard.” You mean you’ll try. We all know how this goes.

That night, Park-ha huddles outside Yi Gak’s door, asking if he’s sleeping and disappointed when he says he is. He asks what has her so worried that she’d camp out in front of his door, and she says she’s scared he’ll disappear.

So he brings her inside and tucks her into bed right next to him. Aww. They lie down with hands linked, but her concerns aren’t totally relieved. She muses that he’ll still have to return to Joseon and solve the princess’s murder: “That’s what has to happen, isn’t it?”

He turns to face her and says, “Since thinking of having to say goodbye at some unknown point is so painful, I have decided to only think in the moment here, which I spend just with you. I like this moment.” He proposes that they make lots of moments together and tells her to think of something to do tomorrow night.

With that they go to sleep, still holding hands.

The next day, Tae-mu gives Se-na last-minute tips on what must be their new plan. That involves Se-na bringing Tae-yong here to this lake, “by any means necessary.”

Se-na arrives at the rooftop with something to tell Park-ha, attitude meek and head bowed. She affects the demeanor of the self-pitying penitent, saying Park-ha must hate her and apologizing for everything.

Starting to cry, Se-na says she’d like to die; thinking of her wrongs has her so ashamed she can barely hold her head up. Nor can she turn to Mom, or her birth mother, or Park-ha: “Should I just die? If I die, could I be forgiven?”

Admittedly Se-na is pretty convincing; if we didn’t know she was up to no good, I might almost believe her. So Park-ha can’t help feeling sorry for her as well, and softens a bit. When she steps aside, Se-na sees her phone lying on the table and reads the incoming text from “Dummy ♥” that asks if she’s decided where to go tonight. Ughhh. This is just too easy, isn’t it?

Se-na replies as Park-ha, telling him to meet her at the reservoir tonight for some night fishing. He replies that he’ll meet her there, and adds that she should wear the couple tee that he left out for her (which is Chi-san’s, HA).

Se-na hurries out with an excuse (and the phone), then swipes the couple tee for good measure. Park-ha comes running out to flag her down, though she doesn’t seem suspicious as she gets into the car. Instead Park-ha extends an olive branch by offering to buy unni dinner, since she doesn’t want to part ways on such abrupt terms.

Then she sees the reservoir on Se-na’s GPS screen (oh thank goodness), and jumps to the helpful, but mistaken, conclusion that Se-na might be planning to kill herself there. Se-na says she just entered the wrong address, while Park-ha urges her that she can always atone for her wrongs and not to take her life so lightly.

Just then, Park-ah’s ringtone sounds, and it comes from Se-na’s handbag. Se-na cringes, but Park-ha, THE IDIOT, lets her off the hook by saying she has the same song for her ringtone. O RLY? WHAT A COINCIDENCE.

Now Se-na has to answer the phone, and she can’t take it out without Park-ha recognizing it. She sticks a hand inside to quiet the phone, which goes unanswered for Yi Gak, calling from the fishing supply store.

Yong-sool tells Yi Gak that nighttime is dangerous and offers himself as chaperone, which Yi Gak firmly dismisses. No third wheels necessary. I do love Yong-sool’s protective streak, and since it has saved royal ass before I’m thinking it should really not be taken so lightly. Ahem.

While Yi Gak has his romantic date, the boys have plans to go see a baseball game. Unfortunately, Chi-san has left the tickets at home; he’ll have to hurry home to get them.

Se-na drives Park-ha to the restaurant, then excuses herself by saying she’s not hungry. Lol. That’s the best excuse a master liar could think up? She literally strands Park-ha in the street and drives off.

Yi Gak gets to the reservoir first and busily sets up for the date. Park-ha, oblivious to the plans, looks all over the house for her phone and totally doesn’t suspect her sister of a thing. Thankfully, Chi-san arrives to pick up his tickets, and he wonders why she isn’t out on her fishing date.

NOW Park-ha thinks over all of unni’s highly suspicious behaviors, putting together two and two (and two and two—seriously honey, there were a lot of clues).

Yi Gak wonders at Park-ha’s tardiness while she speeds over in a taxi. As he paces by the water, he tries calling her but gets no response again. He assumes she let her battery die, but then worries that maybe she got into an accident, and that has him looking around.

That’s when Se-na appears in the distance and waves to him. In the dark, all he can see is her silhouette, and she playfully turns in the other direction and dashes off. He takes it for a flirty game of Hide N Seek and follows as she leads him right toward Tae-mu, waiting on the other side in his car. Tae-mu revs the engine, readying to drive into Yi Gak. Well, I suppose he’s got a leg up, in that it’s not his first car-related almost-murder; maybe second time’s the charm?

Park-ha’s taxi drops her off and she starts to make her way toward the water. Se-na brings Tae-yong to the appointed spot and hides herself out of view, and Tae-mu starts to drive forward, creeping ahead quietly at first.

Park-ha sees Yi Gak first, then the car approaching behind him. Realizing he’s in danger, she calls out to him. He brightens to see her, but doesn’t see the car coming at him from the other direction. It picks up speed, and Tae-mu guns it.

Yi Gak sees the car at the last moment, just as Park-ha flies at him and shoves him out of harm’s way. Which leaves her right in its path.

COMMENTS

Okay, I give up. Rooftop Prince has always been a little sloppy, but here’s where it gets downright stupid. You can only endure so many dumb twists and turns before you throw up your hands and just disengage, right?

The thing is, I’d be more willing to sit through the lameness if it served a purpose I still cared about. Say, the Joseon mystery, or the time-warping. But the company takeover? Whoopdafrickindoo. I don’t know if there’s anybody who still cares about that home shopping channel or who runs it.

In fact, I’m a little conflicted about painting Tae-mu as the bad guy in respect to the takeover—in the murder(s), there’s no question—because I’m pretty sure he’s the only guy who does any work. Seriously. What does it say about your company that the only competent employee is a murderous psychopath? At this point I’m wondering why Tae-mu doesn’t just set up his own company and run that, since he’s got the experience and business acumen. That’s what LinkedIn is for; post that resumé and you’ll have a dozen companies knocking on your door who want to recognize your achievements. I almost wish the CEO were a withholding father figure instead of grandma, because I can see an illegitimate son driven to extremes to win Daddy’s love. Like in Cinderella’s Sister. (Although, yeah, that got tedious too.) But a crusty ol’ grandma who doesn’t care about you or your father? Psh. Whatevs. Move on.

I agree that the show should have been shorter, but I tend to think that of all shows, so that’s not particular to Rooftop Prince. And really, I do think there was enough material to work with to have filled out the 20 episodes with less stupidity. But I’ve always been more interested in the Joseon stuff, and am bummed to realize that basically all that potential is just gonna be stuffed into the first and last episodes. Boo.

As to the drowning mystery? I admit that this was the very first episode that I thought it might be possible that Bu-yong died in the lake because of a botched attempt on someone else’s life. I’d been aware of that speculation, but never saw much to support it. But this lake episode brings it together—and the fact that we’re thematically circling back to the beginning shows that the drama does know what it’s doing, and had its story plotted out well in advance. In that regard you can’t quite blame the live-shoot for coming up with story twists on the fly, since I think there’s enough evidence that a lot of this was planned. It’s just that the execution is so shaky.

The one shining light of hope: We get one new clue. Instead of the princess’s death being an attempt to kill Se-na that killed Bu-yong instead, now we can posit that Yi Gak was the real target, which is a theory I hadn’t really considered. The time-warp fits better in the context of sending him to safety in a moment of mortal peril, which makes a LOT more sense than Fate deciding he needs to solve a murder case. I like that. I wish we had lots more of that.

I'm quite fond to think that the ending will have something along these lines. This is purely just speculation and my theory and is not correct until what is seen next week on it's Finale.

*Joseon Happenings*

YG - It's almost inevitable that this guy will be teleported back to his own time, as much as most of you wish YG and PH stay together in the present era, that doesn't even make sense considering this guy is fading as the mystery gets closer and closer to getting solved. My assumption is that when they get thrown back to their time, they'll get thrown back to a time PRIOR to CP/BY being dead (a day or so would make sense), and thus being able to prevent it to ever occur to begin with.

PH - This girl either gets into a coma or on a very rare case she probably ends up dying to make YG and co understand that PH/BY was the one that died in Joseon.
If she flat out makes it out alive after a murderous intent TM then she must have extreme luck considering her situation in RTP (actually no, TM is just a horrible killer so then again it's not her extreme luck. it's that TM is horrid at doing his job outside his company). I also don't believe BY has that Iron scar that HY gave her anymore under her veil.

TM - This guys going to jail, theres gonna be no question to this by the end. The most interesting theory will be that he has a Joseon Counterpart that RTP has been hiding all along. Which can clearly make sense. We just don't know how high of a rank this guy is, the motive is, nor what he has against YG in Joseon if he really does exist in Joseon.

Sena - Some people think "shes going to redeem herself by pushing out PH after she pushed out YG".
I can't even think of this theory to work. One she's the type of person who freezes and shivers over the events going on RTP (which makes 100% sense). You really think this girl within the split seconds of PH pushing YG away can actually save PH yet alone get there in time even if she did? She's probably going down just as much as TM is. As for her counterpart HY in Joseon, if the YG theory I mentioned above does occur, she'll probably lose her CP status to BY evidently after the murder plot fails in the new timeline, and she gets caught with the Joseon ver TM (if above theory on TM is correct).

Ducklings - Purely going to be just supportive and nothing more other than holding onto memories of the present. The only weird thing that would occur is, if the Time Travel back prior to the Murder occured in Joseon, they will have a hard time getting into the Palace considering they wouldn't have been named a Special Force by YG yet, so YG has to pretty much make something up to get them in the Palace before the Murder Plot occurs

*Present Changes*

TY - With YG's departure from the present, TY will most likely wake up. Although changes can occur in the past now, the current present can't be changed (there will probably be different stories in the History Book but the current dimension present won't change at all regardless of the changes in the past) The theory here is that TY was supposed to meet PH, theres 0 doubt about that. If it ties correctly with above speculation of PH (in regards to TMs intention to kill YG failing) and she goes into a coma. TY will probably be next to PH and wake up.

PH - When the murder plot is prevented or solved back in Joseon, PH will also wake up. People say Memory Loss can happen from TMs failed attempt to kill YG. I can see that happening give the nature of RTP atm. She'll probably recall nothing and then see TY's NY Postcard of hers and start to ask the situation around her around those times. At most it would be best if she just remembers everything prior to meeting YG but who knows.

TM/Sena - Already stated above on Joseon Part.

Company? - TY is CEO and has 25% of the shares due to Grandmas Death and YG filling in as TY. Currently CEO Jang has another 25% of the shares (she hasn't done the Stock Transfer to Sena yet), which will undoubtly go to PH/IJ. Why not Sena?

1. Sena is a bitch, after she left the airport she should know what kind of person she is now.

2. She's probably along side TM in Jail. Her reputation is destroyed and who would give a 1/4 stock of a relatively above avg company to a person like this?

YD/TM's plan was to get 25% of Grandmas stock, take Jangs 25% to usurp the company. Now that TY has 25% and PH has 25%, let's just say TY and PH usurped the company instead of them.

PTS - Pyo Taek Soo, became the President of the company as we saw in Ep 18. He'll probably have a great time taking care of YD (TM's dad). I don't even want to imagine if he will have anything to do with Great Aunt so Im not gonna think about that.

Mom / CEO Jang - Probably be proud of PH and shocked of Sena. Nothing really to write about here after their birth secrets been revealed.

I forgot to mention that I will be pretty damn dumbfounded and shocked if by chance BY has PH's Memories (since there's no legitimate reason that this happens) just to make the viewers happy that "I guess YG and PH kinda stayed together after all" type of thing.

To say I was irritated with this episode (alright, not just this, the past few episodes included) is an understatement. I am super irritated with the obvious plot loopholes and the sloppiness of the drama. They make everyone in the drama act so dumb like they don't have a brain to think.

What's especially pissing about this episode is the accusation by the airhead cop. He readily believed in Taemu and dismissed Taeyong's claim. If he's been a real cop the country would have super high crime rate.

Ok end of my rant. Just had to vent it out.

I am still troubled by that miracle shoe stuck in TM's apartment door in the early episode.

Could that shoe be the turtle ( Episode 1 ) reincarnated? You can trust the writers for any dumb part.

Maybe Parkha gets run over by the car and slips into coma, proved the fact it is Buyong that drowned in the river/lake. However, after YiGak return to the past, it is not when Buyong was drowned, but before she was dead. Then it makes sense for Prince to undo the about-to-happen murder and save Buyong:)

It's strange. The episodes are getting more ridiculous but the ratings went up. I love Han Ji Min but not a fan of Micky, so will watch only when I absolutely have nothing else better to do. Thanks for the recap.

RTP started out strong and now it's fading like a horse that's over exerted itself, but I have enough fondness for it that I just hope can cross the finish line without completely collapsing...

But, I'm honestly so confused as to how the writer is going to tie all of this up and leave us happy with a OTP paring.

Another point, I, too am curious about wheh PH read the history book... will the writer remember to go back to that?

Oh well, as long as the ending isn't totally WTF like Hong Gil Dong, I will be satisfied.

In addition to a comment I made earlier: I still love this drama, even though many people don't seem to anymore. My only question is, (please don't take this the wrong way) why do people who don't like it/are frustrated with it/think it's a waste of time continue to watch it? I believe that there is a good reason that the ratings are climbing in Korea despite others kind of bashing on it, but I am genuinely curious as to how come there is a difference in perspective here.

I hope I don't come across as mean!! I just really wanted to know... :(

I also see people saying that Pak-ha is now vastly different than how she was originally portrayed in the beginning - the only thing I can say to that is, people can change when they fall in love! Sometimes it makes them crazy, but in her case, she's a lot more trusting/naive...which warrants the "she's so dumb!!" comments.
But yeah! I'd definitely like to see how the drama ends too.

I would say her character is very consistent, as mentioned before she is just a lonely, kind hearted, trusting person putting up a brave front, deep down she is someone who wants to be protected, cared for and J4 really provides her the family bond....her best friends are still friends, is different from family...

one more thing about her character, in ep2 or 3, after SN told her to go away/disappear whatever, she still went ahead to help move things when her mum asked...etc She got to act fierce since she is staying with 4 she thought were mentally unsound stranger...

My dear pk (on online game pk means player killer, lol)

This is Rant or Rave section or page. Do you know what Rant or Rave mean?

Here, for your easy reference:

Rant = to speak or shout in a loud, uncontrolled or angry way, often saying confused or silly things.

Rave = to speak in an uncontrolled way, usually because you are upset or angry.

To some people who do not like the show, they may still want to watch and continue ranting and raving on this page. To be honest this page is for people who dislike the show because its them who want to rant and rave, right? People who say "cheers and kudos" should stay away, because this page is not for them.

Duuuuuuuh! - anyone as miffed as I apparently am on this episode????

Having flashbacks here, something about a shower and someone at a place called South Fork??? Full circle yes, on the body of water and the cast of characters. Prince was to die? Sister-in-law really died? Brought forward for the shower scene to let him see who he really loves? Then to take him back since he figured out, ’before’ the body has a chance to be a floater and put nasty wife away, to take up with ’my one true lub??’

Such possibilities when started. Was hoping for not too lame an ending. Guess will just have to wait and see . . . . .

"Whoopdafrickindoo" :-D Loved that! I actually always suspected that it was not the princess. Depending on how long the body was in the water and who knows what kind of damage may have been done to the face to distort it, it was always a possibility! Now why would the CP kill her sister? Well, Se Na's track record on protecting sisters si kind of low right now. Glad I did not read this recap before seeing the episode. I probably would have started laughing at serious moments! As always JB, thanks for the laughs!

I loved this show so much near the beginning, so even though the excess time on the boring company story lines and how stupid things are sometimes getting (particularly in this episode), I keep waiting for some big connection that ties up everything so it's at least satisfying in the end. Hopefully next week can redeem Rooftop Prince a bit.

I agree, this entire show I've been muttering that Tae-mu should just *leave* and go work where they will appreciate him. Then when grandma realizes she left the company to a flaky artist instead of the qualified business man, let her deal with the regret. No plots, attempted murders, takeovers, etc. needed. Why make your life so complicated man?

I once read a book entitled 'Knight in Shining Armor' by Jude Deveraux, where both characters had a chance to time travel. One travelled to the future (in the case of the Knight-who travelled to the girl's modern time) and the past (for the girl).

I thought this series was going to be somehow like that. The turn of events is a bit disappointing but I'm watching till the end because I can't wait for Yi Gak to go back to Joseon and solve the mystery there!!

I think Tae Mu hasn't been successful in killing Yi Gak because it's not Yi Gak/Tae Young's time to die yet so fate/destiny won't let it happen just yet.

I honestly found the series to be overly far-fetched as it progressed. I miss the comedy undertone in the first couple of episodes, which I've rewatched 2-3 or times already, can't say the same for the newer episodes. The villains are just downright annoying, I don't want the writers to spend anymore time on them, get rid of them already! Hopefully the last 2 episodes bring back the cute and zany.

I think the reason many people (including myself) are getting frustrated with this drama is because we want the good guys to win so bad, yet every single time they are even close to winning, the bad guys come in and ruin everything. I would also like to add that they do this all the while having the good guys looking downright dumb (which is rather bothersome--actually, make that extremely frustrating). Common' seriously. PH couldn't call the three special force guys to come help her as soon as she found out? Does love make you THAT stupid? And YG couldn't hear the car coming? You're in the middle of a freaking forest. He was driving on rocks and uneven ground! It's dead silent! REALLY! I'm surprised they even survived this long into the show given their stupidity.

I apologize. I'm just very angry at the illogicality of them losing their common sense at the most inappropriate times: both teams seem to overestimate their own sabotaging techniques which results in a continuous loop of "unexpected" revenge scenarios. And thus, here lies my frustration and eagerness for next week's episodes.

We need not to be a writer to evaluate any ones writing. If we have the right or qualification to praise any ones story, we also get the right to criticize it. It is not that we, the normal viewers are only allowed to sing the complement song and when the time comes to say the harsh truth we're simply not qualified.

I love being frustated in a good way (The villain is so smart and creepy, I think the psychopath'll kill our OTP) instead in lame way (Hey, what do you do, just go out from the road, there's a silent car going to crash you)

Man, seriously, when Park ha was sooo freaking slow at putting two and two together(finding out se na took her phone) I was like OMG WTF!!! Also, there is a very thin line between being nice and considerate or just plain stupidity and ignorance. I mean, did she just haappen to FORGET all of those things se na did to her? like, oh I don't know, leaving her in a truck when she was around 10 yrs old? not telling her who her real mother is? throwing water in her face? trying to destroy her? really, if it were me I would not talk to, feel sorry for or actually TRUST that kind of person, EVER! OR let them in my own house!

Also whn she was in that taxi, I was like WTF! Why are you in a taxi?! CALL HIM you idiot! Isn't that the obvious thing to do, even if she lost her phone, there is her house phone, telephone booths, stuff like that.

Another thing, I always ALWAYS bugs me that in dramas when she find the person she was looking for, they just STOP? Keep running! Call out his name! Jeez, I am seroiusly going crazy over here. THEY BETTER BETTER BETTEEEEEEEER make the last two episodes count. I just really don't want to be disappointed by another bad drama ending again. :(

I still love Park Ha, don't get me wrong, but it's true, some dramas just make the girl dumber towards the end, and that commentator who said that Yi Gak should have faded a bit when the car was coming towards him and the car would have gone in the lake was AWESOME, that so should have been what happened! This ending is way too cliche. OK now I feel that I've ranted enough. Please don't disappoint us viewers next week!!!!!! This kind of drama just HAS to be spot-on, nothing else.

about the telephone, I think it quite understandable since she doesn't know his number. Nowadays, who care remembering other's number, everyone just can call the contact. I didn't watch this ep, but chis-san go home and ask PH why she didn't go to date, right? Why isn't she ask him for help?
And the other just typical drama scene (a-car-obviously-gonna-crash-you-and-your-hubby-push-you). I have watched worse drama before.
Yeah, the faded LG would be cool, compare to fading in jail and whoops to the company hall.

I faithfully followed the series and I really enjoyed each and every episode and I await excitedly the last two episodes. I never watched nor read recaps of the K2H but with QIHM just a short peep coz for me RP is enough entertainment and always made my day. Great kudos to RP writers, actors, actresses and all others involved. At the very least they have made one person happy just watching the drama (well I bought their OST and planning to buy an orig copy of the drama). Cheers.

I'm not trying to sound like the "defensive commenter" here. But I've seen people complaining about a show they're getting sick of by either: Coming up with good ideas that could potentially get gears turning, or downright calling it a piece of crap.

Honestly, I get that a lot of people are frustrated with the way things are turning out in their favor - as long as the writers keep dishing out material they want the viewers to see, as opposed to what the viewers want to see, this cycle will never end. Unless, of course, those who just can't stand it don't watch it. Or even if they do watch it and then hate it, at least not make unproductive comments. In other words: Nobody sat you down and forced you to watch something you think is crappy. Once it's been decided for yourself that you can't deal with it anymore, it would seem logical (at least to me) to stop watching it. I think the actors, writers, and everyone else involved are doing really well and trying their best to please their viewers. And if (some) viewers aren't pleased, well, then...it just proves that no one's perfect. I'm pretty sure if anyone here created a project they thought was great, there would be tons out there ready to seriously criticize them, too.

I'm truly sorry...I normally respect people's rants about most things, but sometimes it gets to me when the very ones complaining about a drama being illogical continue to watch it despite disliking it - which is pretty illogical itself. So thank you, honiebee, for saying exactly what was on my mind.

I thought that the writers are doing an amazing job, and they have to do certain scenes to get to their conclusion. Lol if you don't even get that then I am lost for words :) Anyway I am glad some people are easily entertained with whatever thrown at them. Reminds me of a 65 yrs old halmeoni next door, she was so engrossed watching the History of Salaryman, I pointed out to her and said "Grandma, don't you think that was nonsensical, don't tell me you believed all that?". She pushed away my hand and said, "shut up you don't know how to watch Korean drama". I said, " But grandma that was downright stupid, it didn't make sense". She said rather gruffly which nevertheless left an impression, "If you're that smart don't watch Korean Drama."

Well maybe she was right, simply put "Stop being a smartyass if you want to enjoy Korean drama".

OK..there are a lot of stupid details about this episode but I just want to comment on one stupid thing: How long does it take before the Korean Police notice that one of their prisoners is missing and go on a man-hunt???

moving forward, I'm still hopeful that this drama can still recover with its two remaining episodes and tie everything in together. What I want is for this whole murder mystery-tie in-with time travel to have a really DAEBAK revelation at the end.

For example, how bout including the back stories of the three ducklings in Joseon? What if, the reason that the ducklings were spun along in this whole thing was not solely to help His Highness with solving his Crown Princess' murder mystery? What if, somehow, the injustices and misfortunes in their lives were caused by the unknown villains in the Joseon era and thus by helping Yi Gak in modern times they can also bring justice against whoever the culprit is? Oh well that's just my imagination running wild. But that's because I don't want the 3 ducklings to fall flat as supporting characters.

I still don't know what would be the best ending with the whole Yi Gak/Tae Yong-Buyong/Park Ha love story. but I sure hope that the writers make it more meaningful and satisfying.

Thanks JB for the recap. I come here to get some sense of perspective. Sticking with the series because I already wasted so much time on it.

According to history, Lee Gak died 2 years after the crown princesses death in a crab-soup allergic reaction. I guess that is what they will have to use to solve this nonsense.

1) PH falls into the pond, LG jumps after to save her.
2)Manages to save her, but gets transported back to his time
3)Persimmon poison in Joseon was indeed meant for LG, but he was saved by BY who came in to solve the puzzle.
4)The crown princess, was a co-conspirator due to jealousy between the bond between BY and LG and/or LG's half brother being her secret lover. She would not have eaten the poison
5)King's spy network may have discovered the plot and planned a counter-assassination of the princess
6)Princess, realizing this, may have tricked BY into dressing in her clothes and become the victim in her place
7)Since BY was face down in the pond all night, fish may have eaten her face, leading to everyone believing that it was the crown princess who died.
8)Princess would have to gone on living masquerading as BY who keeps her face covered all the time
9) The King and court would naturally suppress any investigation, since the counter-assassination was planned by them in the first place.
10)LG comes back to look for BY, and will immediately discover what really happened in Joseon.
11)He stays on for another two years wrapping things up and then decides to die in Joseon era by eating something he knows will kill him
12)His soul travels back and enters TYs body. Prince wakes up as TY, and is rejoined with PH.
13) After the car accident, TM and SN get exposed and go to jail, leaving the company to PH. They make up a story that TY went back to US and keep running the company, taking care of the comatose TY until point 12, 2 years later

Waah..Even though I say so myself :D

I know this is a drama and complete fiction, but I was fuming at the half-assed police work. WTF?! How about doing some actual investigating or getting some solid irrefutable evidence before accusing someone of murder? How did they get a warrant to search Tea Yong's car? Why are they handling this supposed concrete evidence (bag of money) with bare hands? Why not verify his alibi by checking surveillance video from the bar, the street or the place he picked up the noodles? Korean is the most wired country in the world, I'm pretty sure they have security cameras too (which they should have checked two years ago in NYC by-the-way). I know, I know...it's fiction, but damn if police are not made to be the most retarded people on the planet in these shows.

It was a lousy script, including the interrrogation with Tae Moo. investigators and police will not interrogate two persons simultaneously together :) in like manner that arrest is not executed by mere alleged statements and poor evidence. However, I'm enjoying the suspense and soon, the ending

Okay this is kinda super late for me to comment but I can't help it. Since, I live in India and just started watching the show so..well.. :/
Speaking of the show.. I don't see the relevance of building up a loving relationship only to have them separate or to snatch their memories away in the end, that will be outrageous.
Like you love a certain person (barring his/her background or in this case which era they belong to) but due to some inevitable circumstances is it okay for you to move on and settle for the doppleganger? I mean alright TY is the reincarnation of YG in this life but he still is not YG is he? Same goes for PH and BY.. They're not the same person. So since, due to the law of nature YG has to go back to his time he'll have to settle for BY instead of PH(like,"ookay so I can't have PH in my time so instead BY will suffice"). Doesn't make sense in my books. That being said. This episode was indeed a full dose of stupid.
TM for one murder is not your forte, trust me. Like if say that thing really happened about YG doing the fading thingy (which even I was expecting to happen for comical purpose, it would've been hilarious no doubt) but apart from that your lack of murdering skills makes me wonder even in you did go through YG's faded image you wouldn't have killed yourself either. You're that bad.

On to the next crappy disgrace-->
Uhh who doesn't lock their car? And who doesn't lock their phone. Cmon, you have a smartphone for god's sake, so use it smartly. Their are couple of security options to prevent the misuse of smartphones, right!
All of that stupidity could've been avoided if the two protagonists locked their respective devices. And that would've given plenty of time to the more important issues at hand. But anyway that is that. I really am invested in this show despite the hiccups in the transitioning. But still, whether it was BY who died or HY. It still doesn't calculate to pairing off the present reincarnations romantically together just because of the difference in their time of existence.
Now off to watch the finale I hope you won't disappoint me show!

And thankyou so much for the recaps. It's a great help in understanding some typical korean references. Thanks a bunch!

*Arresting someone without concrete evidence/arrest warrent.
* Holding the so-called retrieved money bag with bare hands.
* Why doesn't YG get that one call, you're allowed to make in your defence.
* PH could've gone to the place to retrieve the black box evidence to clear YG's name, instead she just went home and slept :/ (but in that case SN would've been caught by the law too soon)
* I don't know if he is aware of this given his era but he could've asked the cop to check for his finger prints on the money bag to confirm his involvement.

Hehe too many things that are not practical.. But still its fiction right. And in fiction keep your smarts at bay. That's what I believe in. Just enjoy the show and speculate. And rant if that makes it a little more bearable to watch for you. :)

Enjoying this show nonetheless. ^_^
