Side character that stole the drama

This is a hard one at least for me. The closest to “stealing the show” so far it must be Bok Hyu in My demon but after all I’m only three episodes into the drama. Too soon.

If I have to choose, and even knowing Heartbeat was all about WooHyeol and Taec was the absolute star in it, I will go with Sang Hae and Dong Seob. These adorkable guys were a device to watch, had a wonderful relationship, and I loved how they showed us the daily struggles of average vampires in the modern world.

Male lead I will never forget

What can I say about Ha Sang Soo? He will always stay in my memory, and probably not for the best reasons. He wasn’t a bad guy, but he wasn’t exactly good. I really loved how YYS portrayed this very real guy in a very real way, even with all the frustrations he gave me.

Call it love was not an easy drama to watch, but it was so rewarding to me. And Sang Soo, who nailed taking bad decision after bad decision, finally understood that his happiness only relied on him, accepted his flaws and had the courage to continue his life.

I still think that after those four years separation, when he found Soo Young again, the timing was the correct one and they will find their own way to happiness together.

Female lead I will never forget

It’s not been a good year for FL, at least for me, but I have a clear winner here: Cha Jung Sook.

It’s not usual to see a FL in their late 40s, and even less usual to see a FL deciding to take a step forwards talking command of her life. Once a woman is a mother she usually loses all her value as a woman, her role changes being the main caregiver in the family: kids, husband, parents, inlaws, all of them come before her.

As a woman in my 50s it was specially refreshing witnessing a woman deciding she’s the most important person in her life and rebuilding it to put her in the center.

Honestly, that is what we all should do. Caring for others doesn’t mean we should forget about oursefves to the point of making our persona vanish into being someone’s wife, mum or daughter.

Hello, beanies.

Finally back from some hectic but really funny 11 days of December that involved a trip to Venice with a slight Aqua Alta and a mascarade, a cancelled flight back home, two days of National Holidays that meant I had to do the job of a week in two days (another day was lost due to cancelled flight), another trip to London to attend Keneth Branagh’s King Lear, a visit to Windsor Castle and a high tea at the Britsh Museum.

I’m barely alive, haven’t caught up on dramas and don’t know when I will be able to post my entries for the RoundUp, but I will. Right now I’m going to spend a couple of hours reading your entries!!

We are here. As there have been no more suggestions this is the definitive list for this year.

My dear Beanies.

October is over and after some very frantic piem months, I am almost back to non-piem life (but only almost).

If you remember, in July I went to Japan to attend Junho’s concert in Yokohama. It was a last minute decision, and also one of the best taken this year. I had the most wonderful week, with my Hottest and Itppas friends.

And then in October I went back to Japan again. This was a planned trip, but surely, my friend and I set it to match the 2PM 15th anniversary concert in Tokyo. Stars aligned and I could get tickets for both days, and even got tickets for four of my friends. As in a drama quote, I felt I must have saved a country in my one of my previous life to be this lucky. I could have never made it without the help of my Japanese friends, who tried again and again the lottery system so I could have those tickets. To be honest, my seats both nights were not really good (last rows upper floor), but when you only have lemons, you should try and make lemonade, and maybe add some gin and tonic and enjoy the show. I enjoyed it and made a dream come true: I watched babes live and they were as good as expected.

I only discovered 2PM in 2018, during their military hiatus (which lasted 5 years, yes… tell me about waiting and being patient), and from then on they became my happy pill for many reasons. Their music is number one, then there are their visuals that can’t be ignored, and their amazing bond although I guess every fangirl think this way about their idols, after all… we are fangirls.

15 have passed but my babes are still beast idols capable of performing acrobatics, and also being adorkable on stage. 10 out of 10 is a such a cheesy song, but I can assure that everyone in the Ariake Arena was laughing, dancing and having fun while singing this song. Please enjoy it!!!

    I’m going to have to refer back to my MDL for this haha Surprisingly, I’ve been doing a good job of keeping it updated this year, and I can already tell even from not looking at my MDL of 2023, that most of my responses are going to be Cdrama related (because it’s mostly what I watch now), and the 1 Kdrama that might be sprinkled in is our beloved Attorney Woo Young Woo *insert dab*. Good thing for no rules 😂😂

        Have you tried Fake it til you make it and Rememberance of things past? They are made by the same team and are part of the shorter episodes wave so only 12 episodes.

            Remembrance of things past covers some seriously heavy issues in the work place and personal lives of each of the members of the friendship group so it’s not really calming like New Life Begins and Meet yourself were on the whole. However, I really liked the way they tackled the big issues. Unfortunately, one of the women in the group is a tick box character that I have noticed has to be present in most romances; very superficial and childish in their attitude to long term relationships. She was the odd one out in this group of friends much more so than in the other dramas that have shown this type of character. I dislike this type of character almost as much as the ever present male tick box character who is undermining of the female lead but acts as if they are their closest friend and have their best interests at heart. This male character is usually the second lead, therefore jealousy is a key characteristic.

My dear beanies,

Yes I have been away for almost two months, but living in Junholand and 2PMland. Those brats just won’t let me go and I haven’t got time for almost anything but them.

And I’m afraid the situation is not getting any better because… I GOT TICKETS FOR THE CONCERT IN TOKYO FOR THEIR 15TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!!

So yes, I will be traveling to Japan for the second time in less than 3 months, and yes, I know it’s crazy, but… you only live once and I need to see my babes singing live.

Ticketing has been a bloodbath, if Seoul was WW3, Tokyo was WW4 and I couldn’t have made it without the help of J-Hottest. If you’ve ever been to a concert in Japan you know you can only get tickets with the help of a local, because a Japanese cell phone and a Japanese card is needed to make the payment. I had 9 Japanese fans applying for lottery (you can’t buy directly, you can only go through a lottery system, even for general sales), and somehow got tickets for both days (it was less than a 5% chance, I should have bought lotto that day… damn!).

So in less than a month, I will be going to Japan, and after concert I’m going with two of my friends to Hokkaido, to see a glimpse of momiji and enjoy a different part of Japan.

I will try to keep you all posted, but right now, beanies, all I think is 2PM!!!!!

    Wow that’s amazing. An Instagram Kdrama content provider ‘Deema loves drama’ saw them in Korea and said it was a superb concert lots of fan service. So for you to experience it twice will be a boost that will last forever.

    Firstly – this is amazing, WELL DONE!!! I know how crazy and insane (an understatement) the ticketing process is so the fact that you got your hands on tickets for BOTH DAYS is AMAZING!! And through the lottery too?! IT must be fate that said you had to be there!

      When my Japanese friend told me she had won lottery for Saturday (this was the third entry, and she had 10 people applying for 6 tickets for me), I almost drop my phone and I started crying. I was weeping for more than an hour while I was watching Doctor Who with @leetennant and wasn’t really aware of what was happening. And then in the afternoon my Japanese friend reached again to confirm that another friend had won lottery for Sunday, so the weekend was pretty intense, because also I had to tell my friends I got tickets for them and they had almost given up on going. Lots of crying, I can tell you!!

        That’s so so so sweet of your friend to help you out with this too!! Isn’t it heartwarming when we come together for things like this! 🥰

        I can only imagine how intense it would’ve been with all the emotions. These things can be so emotionally draining, especially when you factor in the adrenaline and anxiety pumping through you while you’re waiting to see if you got it or not – even when it’s not a lottery system. Last year when BTS announced their Busan concert, I had a friend who was on exchange in Seoul literally dedicate over half her day to camping out in a PC-bang with all the devices she had on her to see if she could get tickets for both of us – and this was in the middle of her assessment season too, so it was chaos to say the least. Unfortunately she couldn’t get any, it was an absolute nightmare apparently because the site kept crashing and what not, and we both spent a fair bit crying over it after because of disappointment yes but also just emotions were so drained by the whole process.

        Also forgot to say earlier – totally with you on the ‘you only live once!’ thing! I love it when people do crazy ‘spontaneous’ things like this because yes, life is so short so if you can, you should totally do what you want to do and love. Experiences like these will become core memories after all!!

        I’m trying to manifest & plan a Japan + SK trip for mid next year, so I shall come to you for Jap. travel advice and questions 😀

      My closest friends are going to Hong Kong, and then as I have many Filipino moots, they are also having a blast because he’ll be in Manila. Ticketing for this will also be challenging, and I would go if I could, but damn real life gets in the middle and I have no leave days left this year, so I will have to wait for next years schedule.

      And I’m not obsessed… am I? Hahahahaha… who am I trying to fool?

      But Ally, I know you understand me… can you imagine? 2PM in concert!!! And I’ll be there!!!

      Ack! I’m so behind. I have no problems with intertwined past lives at all!! But, worse for me, I am in Europe for work-play and won’t get to this drama until I’m alone this weekend…at which time, I should work further, but will probably catch up on shows instead.

      Interestingly enough…the drama that’s risen to the top of my priorities (so that I’m only 30 minutes from the end of ep. 6) is The King’s Bodkin!!!

        I spoke lots of my issues with TRS, but hey… this one doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, just entertaining, and I was so relieved after episode 2 that I think I will buy anything about it!
