Not watching any k-drama… I need one very good, maybe one i missed from 2021 or 2022?
Please someone give me suggestions. Something as good as “Start up”, or at least “Run on”. Thank you Beanies!

    Not sure what you’ve watched, but the Year End Bean Count posts should be a good place to look for non-horrible shows. My main quibble with the 2022 post is that I thought Gaus was much better than the minions gave it credit for. Pachinko didn’t seem to get any minion votes but I thought it was quite good.

    I loved StartUp and liked Run On. What I enjoyed this year is Sh**ting Stars, 2521 and most of A Business Proposal. What about Hospital Playlist 1? Romantic Doctor 1-2?

    This is difficult because I really loved Start-Up (9/10) but I didn’t like Run On so much (6’5/10).

    I’ll tell you my favorite shows and I hope it helps you decide. They are very popular so you probably already watched them, but let’s try.

    2021:
    – At a distance, spring is green (9/10).
    – Yumi’s cells 1 (8’5/10).
    – Hometown Cha Cha Cha (8/10).
    – Happiness (8/10).

    2022:

    – Weak Hero Class 1 (9/10).
    – 25-21 (9/10).
    – Love Between Fairy and Devil (C-drama). (8/10).

    “Never give up” was a great ensemble drama this year.

    I saw a ton of saeguks last year. Did you see Bossam?

    Also, Gaus Electronics was hilarious and the OTP was surprisingly good.

      Now… To start, maybe Gaus electronics would be good, since i dont feel like crying over a plot. (I know 25-21 made everybody cry). I am not very attracted to Saeguks, but I will let you know if I try Bossam.

        I really think you’d like The Fabulous with Chae Soo-bin right now. A great gang of friends flank our heroine. Netflix. Only 8 episodes. I’m almost done with them.

Honestly, I dont know what to think. It was weird. I finished today, and i had to FF some parts… Main romance was boring for me at the end. But hey! Chan hee made me cry…

    I agree and it took me awhile to objectively process what I had seen. Park Hae-yeong’s writing was unique and (at times) brilliant, but I cannot shake the analogy to the fable of “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. I know many will disagree with me.

      Yeah, that’s been running through my head since the beginning of the drama..or to hark back to an ancient pre-meme…”where’s the beef??” The trappings are beautiful, but the content just isn’t there.

        Maybe it’s one of those dramas that make people understand what they want instead of what’s really there. The characters are relatable, pretty, the situations are somewhat interesting, the cast is amazing and cinematography is sometimes beautiful. Lots of metaphors to pretend are meaningful.
        I haven’t finished the show yet but these two examples come to mind.
        The relationships between the siblings and the parents and between MJ and Gu. I felt the drama showed in many ways how the relationship between siblings and parents was quite neurotic and how difficult it was for them to live there, however many people believed that was just a close nice family. Same with Gu and MJ, they both had many issues and their relationship was much more about those than what they had actually built among them, but most people seemed to think of it as a sweet romance.

Dropping Dali and the prince, because honestly… Kim Min Jae is not a prince at all in this drama. He is just handsome. But other than that, his character is obnoxious and frustrating. 🙁

      I watched the whole episode 5, and I am done.
      She couldn’t be more stupid because the drama was not produced in the 80’s or 90’s…. 🙄
      And MH demanding to intervene in the museum’s meetings just because he is a creditor? Demanding her to tell him everything because she owes him? Am I suppose to think that’s romantic because they are the otp??
      I am disappointed with this drama. Also, most of the characters are either boring or annoying, or simply evil. Mean people. There are lots of bullies and now even a thug who took her money… great.
      I won’t be seeing though…😒

      I guess some people are still struggling to get past the Moo-hak brassy front. He is loud.Yes! But under all that there is a good heart. Look how he inserted himself into the Si-hyung (deceased Director Kim’s nephew) and Gong-joo confrontation and offered to walk with her.

      When MH laid into the museum staff I clapped with him. They needed that wake up call. How can they be so clueless about the financial situation of the museum. OK blame Dali for being an incredible Noble Idiot! Dali snap out of it! Which brings me to Won-tak.
      I clapped when WT read Dali the riot act for acting like she didn’t have a friend to turn to (him!) And Tae-jin has already indicated he wants to help.
      I loved both Moo-hak and Won-tak in episode 5 and can’t wait until they join forces. (After the big bow out when MH finds out Dali is downstairs in WT’s place. Lol. That might be epic.)

        In Wednesday episode, he was nosy and didn’t help Dali. She wouldn’t have ended in the motel if he let her decide for herself. And the “I’m your creditor you need to tell me everything” is becoming boring. There are rules and laws. He could start by using them.

          Dali had several options concerning how to find shelter. Won-tak who I believe she thinks of like a brother (he otoh may not necessarily think of Dali as a sister) should have been her first call rather than her going to some seedy motel flashing an envelope of cash.

          I was so upset! The writer is making so many scenes over the top and even absurd (even legally absurd) in order to create tension in the plot. And he screaming and interrupting “so called” serious business is really so childish and difficult to believe. Even a relative poor person, or a person without education has more common sense….

        MH thinks interms money and that’s it for him. World starts n ends at money… and so far he is able to hide is growing affection for Dali below money minded mask.. and that’s the reason he looks loud n bossy and selfish. But wait till Dali sees thru that mask.. MH will be on his knees for his princess cause he won’t let anyone hurt her.
        MH + WT would be the best combo of Kdramas for me (after Goblin duo).. reason both are loud and knows how to press buttons of opposition to one up their game
        I love WT MRS interaction so far.. especially when WT points his biceps to brag abt his strength…
        I’d love to see both get together to fight the baddies to same Museum and Dali (off course).

      he did get better in today’s episode.. but yes I agree he is loud and bit unreasonable and I think that’s cause to show the stark difference between Dali’s calmness and poise and his loud and cocky self…

    I agree. I’ve only stuck around this long because I like Dali, but I was annoyed by everyone, especially Moo Hak.

My dad is still in the intensive care unit, but he is in recovery. The critical part seems to be left behind. Thanks to everyone for your prayers 😇

      He said he is in pain, lots of painkillers and still a lung infection..But still recovering and very optimistic! I am so happy!

My father is in the IUC, his condition is critical. Recovery very slow, he cannot breathe by himself yet. 😩😖😖😖

    But I’ve been where you are, and the best I can say is: rest when you can and and eat and sleep well. Again, I know it’s easier to say, but please take care of yourself so you can love and take care of your dad when he recovers.

      Exactly one year since he was diagnosed that he needed that surgery, and because it is too expensive, we couldn’t help him. Right now we are sunk in debts, but I hope the surgery goes well.

      Thanks, Ally, and everyone else. We are all sad, because all of his children are far away,, and in this time of covid crisis, even if we had (we don’t have anymore) we couldn’t fly to Venezuela to be with him because the borders are closed. 😖
      So we can only pray and hope for the best. Thanks to everyone.

I finally finished watching \”One spring night\” and I must say I liked it better than I thought I would… But the music was horrible, I hated it the music so much! Just like in Pretty Noona!😂😂😂😂

      No, well, I also didn’t like her that much. I would have liked it if the writer made her more poetical, I would have expected more love for books from a librarian, and a more spiritual perception about life, to which I would have had hard to believe she had such a boyfriend at the beginning, and then lots of conflicts would have not existed…
      But anyway, I liked some lines from the drama. And let me tell you, I binged it with lots of FF, because some characters were just too boring for me. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
      So, it’s not that I liked this drama in its whole, I couldn’t.

      Lucky for you, nobody likes the Melty Brain show so it doesn’t meet the criteria.

      For me this show is Just Between Lovers. Everyone loves it and raves about it and I dropped it. Couldn’t see what people loved about it at all.

      My big contenders though would be DoTs or Goblin.

        But yeah, Goblin (which @ally-le) would recommend, or DoTs (which is now on Netflix in my side of the world) would do.

        I even thought about watching something with Ha Jiwon (Just not Secret garden, because I already read the recaps) or wait for the next Seo hyun jin drama, but I will see what else other beanies could have in mind 😅

          Ha Ji Won was in a show last year about a hospital ship that was pretty awful. In fact I can’t even remember the name – so I probably didn’t finish it the show was that pathetic……

      For me it was King2Hearts. Everyone loved it but I couldn’t even start watching it because I can’t stand Ha Ji Won’s voice. I have this unexplainable hatred for her voice.

          I also don’t like Gong Hyo Jin which a blasphemy because everyone must like her! I don’t know… I’ve watched several of her dramas and I just don’t see the hype and don’t like acting.

            I think GHJ is… fine. Honestly, she kinda bores me. She’s very same-y in all of the roles I’ve seen her in. The one I liked her in most was It’s Okay, That’s Love.

      I think if a drama is really bad, the last criteria for me for tolerating it would be if I really, really, really like the actor or actress in it. But even then, if I don’t enjoy it anymore, I would still drop it. 😞

      1. In order to test my endurance.
      2. In order to enjoy more the shows that are good. I have in my wish list “Live”, for instance. And I know it is very good…. So, I want to be able to appreciate it 😄

Which one is better??
Is it worthy to watch them all? In which order?? (I would leave the best for last)…

    I read the small synopsis of all in wikipedia, but I don’t want spoilers.
    The summaries didn’t say much to me. I feel more incline to reply 1988, since I think that’s the one with PGB, but I know nothing about the others. Only that they are all very famous.

    I would say Reply 1997 – Reply 1988 – Reply 1994

    1988 is my favourite but it’s incredibly long per episode, so I wouldn’t suggest it to somebody who hasn’t seen any reply series yet. I would suggest to see 1997 first.

    1997 is my favorite and I watch it again and again. I don’t rewatch the other two. 1994 was my least favorite. 1988 was great until the end, but the last part was not so great in my opinion.

    For me 1997 is leaps and bounds better than the other 2. It was fast paced (~45 min eps against ~1.5hr for the other seasons) and had the right concoction of nostalgia and romance.
    1988 was also well done, specially in the family+friendship department. The romance, well I preferred the side couple rather than the main ‘who is the husband’ mystery.
    1994 was nice, the gags were good, but the episodes could drag. The friendship was great to watch! The romance, well I’ll leave you to make your own judgement about it.

    So chronologically 97 -> 94 – > 88 (as 13infamyass mentioned, there are cameos from the previous show in each subsequent season)
    My preference 97 – >> 88 – > 94

    I throughly enjoyed each and every one of them, but 97 is in my top 10 all time list

    I agree with 97 first (its the best n the husband mystery wasnt meant to toy with the viewer). However you like the best fr last right?
    88 is great but really looong episodes so may feel it a bit tedious..
    94 havent watched it yet not sure if its worth the hours..

    I haven’t seen Reply 1994.

    If you want fun, crazy nostalgia, sizzling romance: Reply 1997.

    If you want deeper look at family and friends relationships, with a calmer vibe: Reply 1988. (It’s my favourite – Beware longer episodes though)

    I liked 1988 the most. It felt really homely and focussed a lot on the families instead of just having the spotlight on the main couple. And it also gave me the most conflicting ‘second male lead’ syndrome ever! I just couldn’t decide who I wanted to win because I liked both the guys.

    1997 is my second favourite. I loved it like anyone else but at times I felt she didn’t really deserve him!

    1994 – completed it on my second try. Go Ara’s ‘pursed lips’ became too much for me at one point but I was determined to see it all!

    Me too!!! I’m getting through the last 4 episodes this week, because of my hiatus this fall, and I keep thinking how beautifully made it is. Just exquisite. It doesn’t move me emotionally like Goblin did, but still very well-done.
