I’ve decided to bring this idea into light on the fan wall from the result of deep shower thinking and extreme boredom that school has kindly bestowed upon me.

I consider myself to be an extremely boring person. But once in the blue moon, something DOES happen to me and I feel compelled to share it to prove that maybe I’m not so boring after all. Hey, what if they decide to do an biography about me? it’ll be these extremely random and dramatic moments that will shine in my otherwise boring movie/book.

On to the story.

A few weeks ago, my younger brother and I had gotten news of his friend, a young, 19 year old soul, that was hospitalized for a heart attack.

This shocked me. I had known this kid (who was 3-4 years younger than me) and while I found him to be a tad annoying, he was an otherwise healthy young man. A bit of a description: he’s tall and and lanky and has an awkward laugh.
We visit him in the hospital in a hurry — Turns out the young man had gotten this odd virus that slowly progressed into his heart until he suffered from heart failure. It started out last year as a cold with a cough that never disappeared. The boy told me he had seen several doctors and the doctors just assumed he had allergies or something. But he said he kept feeling weaker and weaker… until one dreadful night. He described the worst pain he had EVER experienced in his ENTIRE (short) life. He woke up and screamed and screamed and described a pain in his chest. A gosh darn heart attack. He was rushed to from one hospital to another more specialized one and that’s where he got the diagnosis described above.

Now this is just context to my story.

I’m a light sleeper and quite a jumpy person by nature. My friends, family and I always joke that if were someone who’d want to kidnap me, they’d give up because of my screeching screams.

So at 3 am, while Im sleeping, like any sane person would, I suddenly hear THE WORST SCREAM I HAD EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE (male scream, nonetheless). I wake up instantly and run into the hallway to see what’s going on. (and so does half my family). In a matter of split seconds, I imagine the worst. OMG is it one of my brothers???? Is it my dad who I have been stressing out of late? OMG God, please be okay, PLEASE, PLEASE.

Turns out my youngest brother (19 year old boy), sleep walks and had a nightmare. And he screamed.

In an instant, I faint to the ground. (and so does my little sister in another room). My mom, in panic starts running from my sister, to my little brother, to me.

I wake up, but now I feel nauseous. I start to throw up. Mind you, it’s 3 am, and my last meal was the 6pm the day before, so there wasn’t any more food to throw up. So I throw up acid. For 3 hours straight.

Mid way (I start getting the worse digestions problems. In between throwing up and falling on the ground from weakness), I’m using the bathroom (sorry guys).

I finally get some sleep 4 hours later. 30 min of sleep later, it’s time to get up for work.

My brother slept peacefully that day.

Brothers.

The end.

PS: another less funny, but dramatic story awaits in a week!

At work we were just talking about emergency drills and a co worker was all…..I just freeze and drop to the ground in an emergency. Apparently it is a leftover defense mechanism from when it would protect us from prey animals.
Hopefully one of your other family members has the flight response and can just scoop you up on the way out.

I hope your friend is doing well. That is scary and sad. I’ve met another person who had a virus attack their heart and I was shocked something like that could happen.

wow! i’m realizing it isn’t such a rare occurence after all!

And yup, I don’t think I’m the most dependable person in such situations. Funny thing is, I’m a healthcare professional and when it comes to emergency situations, I can quickly think and act on my feet. But Family is always different and my body reacted before my brain did (quite literally).

I wish I could add zooms and music along with my story. it’d make it 100x more makjang!

        Haha, that would be amazing.
Maybe one day some tech beanie can teach us how to do that but in the meantime, your storytelling skills are doing a fantastic job!

But what happened to your brother’s friend? Is he okay?

He was then transferred to a less specialized hospital and a few weeks later, he was discharged. Unfortunately, once you have heart failure, even if the cause is resolved, you have to take medication for life. Poor kid.

I am not too sure if I should laugh or cry! I hope your brothers friend is doing okay and also had I been you I would have bitch slapped my brother into oblivion. Not saying he deserved it but you know…

it is indeed a laugh/cry situation. I laugh about it now hahaha.

As for the kid, he is now discharged, but the situation cannot be forgotten and his parents are no doubt scared for his health from now on…

One of my good friends and colleagues had an acquired cardiomyopathy from a virus in residency, and ended up with a heart transplant in her early 20’s. One of the most amazing people I know. I hope your brother’s friend recovers quickly. What a story! I’ve found the longer I live, the more I realize the craziness that is hiding in plain sight!

Right?! The boy is now discharged and doing a lot better. But it’s hard for a 19 year old boy to learn he now has to take blood pressure/heart medication for life from now on! He doesn’t complain though, and he’s grateful to be alive.

That’s scary. I hope your friend recovers quickly and with few (or better yet, no) long term effects.

*makes note: in an emergency situation with justme, be sure to have a wheelbarrow and a bucket.

I can imagine what your brother went through. I was like this until 15 or 16. Vivid live dreams of my friends and family massacred right before my eyes while I was tied up in that dream. Actually it always finished with me peeing in a cupboard so my mum brought me gently to a toilet and I’ve never remembered until my sister didn’t make me awake once by her evil laughter, because she did find it very funny.

My dad got a heart failure because of borreliosis. They thought it was a flu which caused it until they’ve had the detailed blood results. He got restarted his life, like he’s joking about it and has plenty of medication as well. I’m so glad he’s doing better, because I was a crying creature back then when mum called me from hospital. Me and my sister are living far away from them and we can’t imagine to loose them…

Oh shoot. I’ve been having colds that lasted for so long my doctor decided it was allergies. I’ve been getting really bad headaches these days too. Plus I often get a pinching feeling in my heart when I’d have to stop what I’m doing and do breathing exercises. I’m now hella scared. *googles it and gets paranoid*

Oh no! Don’t go down that road! I know how that feels. First, do you know which allergies you have? Or did your doctor just say it was allergies? You can get blood tested for them. My allergies are dry, where my whole face hurts, but i don’t get a runny nose or teary eyes. I just felt pressure and headaches. It wasn’t until my teeth started hurting so bad that my doctor tested me and finally learnt what I was allergic too. I got a strong decongestant and allergy meds and then i finally felt better. I also have an emergency inhaler. I still get some headaches but not as bad as before, now i blame the heat or stress😅

She didn’t really specify. More like brushed it off as allergies. Mine is more sneezing and clogged sinus. I’ve noticed that it gets really bad when there’s a lot of dust, when grass get newly cut, or when I’m out for trail walks. Maybe I should get my blood tested or go to an allergist. Better than Google, I bet.

Yes get tested! That way you know and can avoid stuff if you can. I have allergies to dust, mold, and roaches. I always get sneezy with grass and never new why, but my allergist said it was because there is also mold there so now i know. Hope you feel better soon!!

Ohhh interesting! I didn’t know about mold in grass! Thank you for the advice. I should really get it checked.

That must’ve been quite a scare, Justme! I’ve had a couple of times when my parents and even my siblings wake me up in the middle of the night because they are sick, nothing life threatening thank God, and I always feel so disoriented being woken up so suddenly. I’m the eldest so I guess they think I know what to do, but I’m just flailing along too, guys! 😂
