Has it ever happened to you while looking at many gifs at the same time that it looks like they’re telling you some stories on their own?

Well, while I was trying to pick some gifs from my gif collection of the drama Dance of the Sky Empire for my fanwall, my crazy and tired brain somehow made up this (lame) story on its own 😅

I was not sure whether I should make a post of it but nonetheless I felt bad not to share my precious gifs 😅

The chinese drama Dance of the Sky Empire is overall enjoyable, even though its writing got me frustrated. Still, I keep a quite good memory of it thanks to this guy.

Xu Kai’s character appears here at first as a playful and mischevious but later he reveals to be also a softy at heart 💖
Even though this kind of role isn’t new for him, I didn’t get tired of it as he perfectly nailed it and his portrayal of Li Xuan was really enjoyable. His hilarious and crazy expressions always make me giggle and I swear I will never get tired of his (failed) winks and smiles.

It’s actually the fifth drama I have watched of him and he impressed me again with his acting. His eyes expressed so much and seeing him being sad made me want to jump into my screen to give him hugs.
I actually don’t remember if I have ever felt that for any characters ?

Now, I need a hug too. Where are his other dramas ? 😭😭

    I was just remembering you @shindy!
    I have noone else to spazz about this show. I’m still left with 4 episodes but I’ll catch up to them soon. This is a kind of shut your brain and watch show but still with some substance. I liked the whole Kunwu vs human conflict between the leads but I know the story wasn’t well done. This story however, was still more meaty than Once upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain, so I give it that. Which also shows that I may just watch any show for Xu Kai now 😂. But yeah as of yet I’m not disappointed in this show, just know thay it had a lot of potential to be better than what it was because the premise was nice. I’ll have to say though, at one pount I thought Prince Mu was better for Su Youlian not only because of SLS but also the animosity was huge between the leads and i still don’t know how they managed to solve that. So yeah, they focused a lot on secondary characters in this show.

      I’d have to say I was skeptical about Wu Jiayi and Xu Kai pairing up, but they pair up fine and do have a good chemistry. Also they don’t disappoint when it comes to acting. I just checked the bts of their crying scene from ep 13 maybe (when Su Youlian leaves the realm they’re stuck in) and their work is commendable.

        Yeah I totally agree with you about the fact that your brain must shut up to enjoy it. I think as I liked the premise I started to have expectations that may have been too big for it. I’m still a bit bitter that it had the potential to be really great but they ruined it as they lost focus on their main plot during many episodes. Though I think Long Wei’er’s storyline is interesting, but I wish it was done in some other way..
        Actually, like you at some point I started to think Prince Mu was also a good choice for Su Youlian. I feel bad for him, he’s a good guy and he was always there for her.

        Btw, did you know that’s not the first time Wu Jiayi and Xu Kai were pairing up together? They were together in Untouchable Lovers that I intend to watch someday but as they only have supporting roles so I will maybe just ff to their scenes.

          Oh I did remember seeing a few of those clips here and there, didn’t know they were a secondary couple. So maybe I’m not interested lol
          Xu Kai can have good chemistry with anyone though. I just completed the show and while I won’t specifically recommend it to someone, it was a nice, easy watch that really helped me in staying distracted. Now I’ll have to wait till Xu Kai has his next drama on air lol. I’m open to other light shows like this one but I know I will enjoy every Xu Kai show for his sake, maybe not a serious one though. I’ll say Gu Yanzhen still tops these three characters I have seen him play and AMA too was a good mix of substance and fun. This show had lots of potential that it didn’t live upto but I think all that comes under censorship and budget issues.

            Yes even though I’m complaining a lot (😅), it was a nice watch and I think the ending was fine.
            Also I liked having a weekly dose of Xu Kai, I needed it so badly. Now I feel a bit empty that I won’t have it for a moment. I read some rumors which say that maybe one of his upcoming dramas will be out this month. Fingers crossed 🤞
            I know I will enjoy every Xu Kai’s dramas, “Dance of the Sky Empire” proved it to me 😆
            Yeah same so far, Gu Yanzhen is still my favourite character of him but I liked all his characters, they were all good so far.

    Hello! I’m not completely sure, but I think this is my first time writing here in Dramabeans, and I’m writing because of him! I just recently discover him, when I start watching AMA on viki after seeing the thumbnail so many times (millitary themes are not my cup of tea), and how happy I am! Gu Yanzhen got me hooked soooo fast. And so, after that I knew the main couple had a previous drama together, and there I went to watch The Legends and his cinnamon roll Mo Qing. And then I watched Ling Jian Mountain and now I’m finishing Dance of the Sky Empire. So I’m really glad to know I’m not the only one that is mesmerized by him.

      I’m happy to meet a fellow Xu Kai’s fan and feel honoured you wrote here for the first time !
      Oh yeah you’re not the only one !
      Like you I found out Xu Kai in AMA and then watched almost all his dramas (I still have to watch Untouchable Lovers but he has only a small role there…). I had even watched Story of Yanxi Palace (70 episodes !) for him and actually liked it a lot and it’s one of my favourite cdramas, even though he is only the second lead and is bald (actually he still looks good like that hehe).
      I have always enjoyed his acting and so far all his characters, they were all endearing and I’m really looking forward to all his upcoming dramas !

        I’ve been keeping myself from finishing AMA because Yanzhen is my favorite. And I still have 8 eps to finish the Legends. But I finished Ling Jian Mountain and only have 2 eps to finish Dance of… That I’m about to watch now. Then I’ll finish the Legends. And yes, I’m seriously considering watching Yanxi palace just for him, waiting for new dramas to air. Maybe the egame drama will be aired soon. I really want to watch him in a modern setting.

          I think the esport drama Falling Into Your Smile should air at the end of the year or at the beginning of next year. I’m also looking forward to seeing him in a modern setting. He will also soon film another modern drama with Yang Mi.

      Yes ! His new drama “Dance of the Sky Empire” just started yesterday and the female lead is Wu Jiayi (AMA’s Manting).
      I have watched two eps so far and I like it. It’s a fun drama and Xu Kai is always as great.

            The cgi got nothing on me because I’m already caught up 😂 If you see my wall, I watched six episodes on the same day I asked you this. I am not a VIP on iqiyi so I just have access to lesser episodes. It works for me too, I am not really concentrating much on the serious storyline aspects of this show but Xu Kai, this boy has done it again lol. I can watch him in these kind of roles forever.

Here is my little appreciation post for a Chinese drama called Once upon a time in Lingjian mountain .
For ones who have never heard of it, it belongs to Xianxia genre (to make it short, it’s set in period time with fantasy stuff like demons, immortals,..) but this drama’s particularity is that it doesn’t take things seriously, like not at all. It is actually filled with lots of jokes and contains some contemporary references like Naruto or even drama tropes !

I checked it out first because I needed more Xu Kai aka my current (but ultimate ?) crush 🙈 on my screen.
I didn’t know what to expect but it was overall really enjoyable. I had a lot of fun watching it thanks to its quirky humor which totally worked on me.
Storywise, it wasn’t perfect and I have some complaints but I loved how wacky both main characters were and the group of friends were also funny and adorable. I was also more invested in the bromance than I thought I would.

Thank you show for this fun ride and giving me lots of Xu Kai’s funny expressions and winks (see my humble collection of gifs in the comments), I’m going to miss you. I may probably rewatch when I need a good laugh.

    This is a Xu Kai appreciation post shindy 😝😂. Thank you so much for this. I think Xu Kai is my current crush too but I think I have a crush on his characters (both Gu Yanzhen and Wang Lu) more than him. I liked Lingjian Mountain for its nonsensical-ness. Both Sardinne and Xu Kai made a very weak plot show interesting because of their acting and their characters and also the humor.

    Thanyou so much for all this gifs!!! When I started this drama my only thought was WTH is this?! But then I enjoy its comedy a lot. This drama makes a joke of itself and the Xianxia genre in general and some other genre. Plus he looks really good in this drama too. Ohh who I’m kidding he always looks amazingly good.

          I use the gif editor Screentogif to make my gifs.

          Dance of the Sky Empire was a nice watch for me as long as I turned off my brain. I think it had interesting ideas and potential but the execution and the writing were bad. It could be much better but actually I feared the worst for the ending so I kinda found it not too bad.

Though it has been one week since Light in Your Eyes ended, I felt I should do a tribute post for this amazing drama.

I had started it from the premiere week without knowing much about the plot.
I have been following Hye-Ja through her new life as an old lady whose youth was stolen from her. Also, seeing what she is going through as an old lady made me think about my own grandparents, I could only sympathize with her.
The show went darker and sadder, it had moments I couldn’t help myself shedding some tears. Fortunately, it also had some light and funny moments to balance the show.
Then, the big plot twist happened and I was sobbing so hard. I realized I was watching a little gem 💖

I loved how meaningful the drama was.
It made me feel so many things. I will be always grateful to The Light in Your Eyes , one of those dramas which end but it still stays with you.
Definitely one of the best of the year 💖

My year 2018 is ending on a high note.
Just Dance is my lastest completed drama of the year. It\’s such an unexpected gem 💖

It\’s a lovely drama which is centered about girls, that I didn\’t want to end since I enjoyed it so much !
Highly recommended to all Beanies who haven\’t watched it yet !

Now excuse me, I feel like dancing now. Vamos a bailar 🎵
