Veronica Park is THE best character in this show. Closely followed by Do Min Ik.

*2nd try at completing Secret Life of My Secretary *

The many \”late\” FanWall posts of Beanies catching up on this Show has finally convinced me:
fiiiine, I will complete Secret Life of My Secretary. It seems that my harsh judgement of the Show really can\’t win against the Awesomeness that is Veronica Park nor how cute Kim Young-Kwang is. I hope to love it as much as everyone here seems to have, on the 2nd try!

Hope you like it the second time! It really is adorable. I loved Veronica Park shipping the main leads. It’s AWE-SOMME!!!

I’m in the minority which didn’t love the drama as much as others did coz deceiving plot ain’t my thing. But Veronica Park was indeed awesome & I’m a Youngkwang fangirl. 😁 Maybe just watch out for the cute moments?

    2
    0

I like the drama, and Veronica Park is my new queen, but I’m also more in the “It was cute but I won’t be rewatching it” camp. I loved the characters, thought it was consistantly charming, and loved that the female lead never got a makeover, but I was never quite obsessed.

Cute pure fluff and enjoyed it for what it was! It’s not something the requires much brain power. I’m glad it ran over the summer — cute summer romance fluff.

Extra-Ordinary You
Did anyone else notice how much more subdued Baek Kyung is this week, after being rebuked by Dan Oh and Haru last week?

Yes, he’s still not particularly nice – think of him as the Grinch: it’s hard to do a complete 180° switch and be a pleasant human being all of a sudden – BUT he doesn’t SHOUT at any one any more! I loooved that slow progress ! No more petulant temper tantrums, kicking and throwing things left right and center ! Yay!

He’s so much more softly spoken, even as he’s spending a lot of wasted breath telling our cutie pie lovebirds Dan Oh and Haru that they’re just Extras. Dude, you NEEEEEED to get over that. For real.

Are we nearing some redemption for our resident Bad Boy? Keeping my fingers crossed.

Yong-Sik essentially sums up how I feel about actress Gong Hyo Jin:
“you’re really beautiful (and a great actress) but…”

When the Camelia Blooms:
Dear Gong Hyo Jin, you are one of my fav actresses. Playing the doormat again, though??? How many times is this?? Why?? I mean, sure, you do it so well, but… AGAIN???
So far, Dongbaek has really not lived up to my expectations of a \”quiet, resilient and cool\” person. She is the epitome of all Candies. Same as in Master\’s Sun, the Greatest Love and even Jealousy Incarnate. Over and over again.

Whyyyyyyyyy?

#upset

    *Pasta trauma flashbacks*
I can’t see her be a doormat again. I think I’m opting out.

    3
    2

I’m so irritated… I mean, yes, we’re all very different and yes, there are shy, quiet people on this planet but… This is the millionth time she plays this role! That might actually be why she got picked too!
I was so proud of her bolder nature in “It’s okay, it’s love” and now, well, now we’re back to the Queen of Candies, the Sea Biscuit teacher of all kind-hearted, earnest and mousy Candies.

She and Jang Na Ra should have a face off.

      * throws hands up in irritation*

(On the other hand, her son and the Police Officer are absolutely delightful!)

Queen of Candies, the Sea Biscuit teacher of all kind-hearted, earnest and mousy Candies

This is my new favourite quote ever. Biscuit Teacher was just… as bad as Pasta. I quite liked Jealousy Incarnate but that’s the only drama of hers I think I enjoyed. And she’s such a great actor. I guess you can get typecast.

        4
        0

I didn’t even bother passed ep1 with “Pasta”. Lee Sun-Kyun was a 1st Class Douchebag. (a clear contrast to his very likeable roles in Coffee Prince and My Ahjusshi)

      2
      1

Really? You are breaking my heart a bit because I really like him as an actor. What has he done?

        1
        1

oh, he’s a great actor. really great. but his character in Pasta was a world-class jerk of an entitled Chef.

          1
          1

Oh right so you mean the character he played in Pasta! Thank god! I thought he was a real life jerk 😆

            2
            0

was she a candy in jealousy incarnate?
wasn’t she two timing openly.. and no one could dare judge..

    that was rare style 🙂

    3
    1

oh, she was a candy. big time. the underdog reporter that is not really respected. it so happens that 2 guys like her and she’s two-timing.

      0
      0

Ugh it is so frustrating! So type cast and I really enjoyed her character in Its Okay. I absolutely loathe the characters she plays BUT I just cannot hate her. I can’t. She is too good an actress to detest.

essentially. see Lord Cobol’s nifty calculation below.

Typical S Korea lack of social mobility 🙂
Without good exam scores and a degree from a top university you are screwed.

      5
      1

In my case I think its the missing connections, because, I have excellent scores and a great college records with a Masters to boot.
It must be my family background. The chaebol family will not let me level up.

        3
        0

I think there is something wrong with the formula starting at Errand Boy.
I don’t have time to write up all my evidence (don’t even really have time to write this) but I have been keeping records and here’s that short version just mentioning upvotes….
It took 32 for me to go from Candy to Jang Geu-rae.
Then 74 more (106 total) for my next promotion.
Skipping a few levels, it took 1310 new thumbs up (4,247 total) for my promotion to Errand Boy.
Mostly, promotions took less than twice as many new upvotes as the level before. The number of new votes for each level was mostly lower than the total votes for the previous level.
But, while running those bleeping Errands, my upvote count has gone from 4,247 to 14,148. More than tripled.
Start graphing and plotting a curve and this stands out light a sore thumb.

Looking at numbers for the lucky few who have gone higher, I see Rooftop Dwellers with 15,000-odd upvotes. Hmmm. Errand still stands out in the graph I haven’t plotted yet.

Things look a little different when I count total posts & followers, but Errand stiff stands out.

The full version of this (which I will probably never have time for) will include all 3 of those factors, with lots more data on me and other Beanies, with an attempt to calculate the relative importance of upvotes, total posts & followers, and finally some guesses on the relative importance of the mystery factor(s) that we don’t see in our stats. (There plainly must be some mystery factor or “DB Staff” couldn’t get so high — probably something about articles written and the number of people who reply to your posts, comments & articles.
    Time to go……

    17

I had to chuckle at this detailed report riddle with frustrated sarcasm. ha ha ha. It is appreciated. Also, yeah, in light of this, I might as well just stay content in my Errand-running. Gainful employment is of much more value. Thanks, Lord Cobol.

I don’t think there is a simple math. I think they are calculated engagement for a consistent period of time or something more complex. Here are some errand boys & their stats

I agree that engagement is probably a factor. Every other time I’ve levelled up, it’s been after a period of time when I was making a concerted effort to post every day. I’d try and post at least one wall post every day (with a gif) and write some kind of comment on every article that DB posts. I suspect that commenting on the articles earns us more “points” than wall posts.

Okay. I just laughed my head off seriously.

          0

Thanks for posting this! Wow, I’ve also lost myself in the mystery of leveling up. Being a forever Errand Boy, I’ve just given up on trying but decided to let fate determine my next destination in life.

          5
          0

To get hired as errand boy: it took me approx. 1600 comments/6600 likes.
It took me approx. 3900 posts/15200 likes to jump from errand boyhood to my cozy rooftop mansion.

Looking at my stats…I think @lordcobol will be in a rooftop anytime now. Maybe DB is doing the final touches for the interior design and building a massive playhouse for the cat. 🐱

As of writing this…I have 5297 posts and 19942 likes. Let’s see how long it will take to join the K-mafia and be a loan shark. 🦈

          7
          1

Okay, I’ve been on the rooftop (la dee dah) for a long time, at least 6 months and my stats are currently (in Lord COBOL format):
          4249 – 7525 – 16 – 56
Which I point out not to say again that I think I got there by mistake as much as to say, I do think @yy might be getting screwed (as she has long suspected). Or there’s really something big hiding in the secret sauce 🤔

          6
          4

          The stats are out!
It’s reassuring to know that I’m not the only soul worrying about the Beanie status. Serious matters, here!

          🤣🤣

(for real though, thank you so much for all the comments, people. It’s good to have online camaraderie over meaningless things. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️)

          0

Omg I am laughing so hard now. Seriously

      5
      0

Sigh. Lots of typos in my comment above. “light a sore thumb” -> “like”; “Errand stiff stands out” -> “still”. Was in too much of a hurry preparing to take my cat in for his annual check-up / torture-session. (He’s fine, and ageing better than me).

      4
      0

Upvotes is the cleanest statistic we see, although probably not the most important factor.
Total comments/posts is tricky because our totals include comments on the old site but I’m not sure if they count towards promotions.
Followers gives an ever-flattening curve once you get to the point where everyone who is likely to ever follow you has already done so. But feel free to follow me anyway 🙂
The “X” factors are especially bad because we only know them by their shadows. Go look up the stats on “DB Staff” to see a total eclipse of everything.

One thing that stands out in my notes is that total-comments counts for a lot. People who outrank me and have FAR more total comments include one Rooftopper with 11,957 (as of when I took that note) and even an Unemployed Slacker with only 16,792 – not much considering that’s 5 levels beyond Errand.

Yes, each level is supposed to get harder. My question is how much harder per level.

Separate from the difficulty of each level, I don’t much like the (apparent) heavy emphasis on total comments because it could seem to reward people who spam lots of low-quality posts. Upvotes seems like the best measure among those we see, because it reflects quality more than quantity.

Full disclosure: I have about 4 times as many upvotes as total comments, so I might be biased but I try to make the kind of comments that people will appreciate.

      5
      3

i’ve also wondered if the weight of the comments is a factor. like do comments or posts that generate a lot of discussion (replies) earn more points? i feel like very early on (early on in the new site days) someone hinted at this. unfortunately i cant remember the context or who it was. but for some reason it stuck with me. if levels are meant to gauge contribution to the website then posting things that garner discussion seems like it might mean more?

        2
        0

It’s working (your comments, I mean).

And I never thought about people padding their stats by, ummm, being overgenerous with themselves on the wall. Very interesting. 😉

        2
        1

Not to be snarky but I know of a few users who have gone as far as typing one sentence per post for 10+ posts (or filled the Beanie wall with a plethora of images), just to then post about their stats. 😕. I mean, to each their own but… 🤔

          4
          1

You high ratio/high quality post people all move to the same newly renovated expensive neighborhood don’t you? I think my low rent rooftop room used to belong to a poverty stricken orphaned high school student. No wonder @egads has a slew of errand boys running her errands all day while I’m having triangle kimbap and soju with a bunch of exhausted errand boys.

I have been an errand boy forever and ever. I have given up. Once in a while I cry and post snarky comments about my lot in life. That’s about it. Another day, another scooter ride. The lights just turned green. I must be on my way.

Exactly why I’m going alone. Well, that and Mr. Egads walks too slow, is too concerned about where the next meal is going to be, and doesn’t understand the fun in finding a good spot to just people watch. We travel best separately. Everyone is less stressed and happier.

I really enjoyed how easy it was to walk around Quebec City. it’s really beautiful and walk-friendly, with so many historic sites and French-looking narrow streets and soooo many food places. I liked it a lot!

A coworker had recommended I visit “Le monastère des augustines” – they apparently have really quaint renovated monastery-type rooms, and their essential oils smell fabulous!

          1
          1

I actually considered staying at the Monastery, but they don’t have wifi (yikes) and I thought I would save that experience for when I come back with my sisters someday soon.

hello Mme @egads , here’s my advise, after doing my little Goblin Self-Tour: MAP IT OUT before you start walking! Most of the sites were literally within 10 – 15 mins walk from each other but I didn’t plan things well and some times had to backtrack to find one or the other.
I found this website VERY useful too, because she has real addresses:
